kyle sees something wasn't going right, like rudolph with his reindeer friends. his heart races as he processes the worry that settles in him from the sight.

this was unknown territory. no one knows what was going to happen, and, as far as kyle knows, no one has attempted this yet, else they would've heard of it.

"we're aborting," he tells cian. "try to help him! i-i'll change out of my suit!"

kyle bolts out of the main space and goes to where he changed his clothes, stripping on his way to cian's bedroom as fast as he can to disable the suit's preventive properties with his avatar abilities.

the usually stoic cacturne suddenly becomes much less stoic which is how cian knows something is wrong even before kyle blurts it out.[break][break]

"shit—okay!"[break][break]

but try as he may, cian does not help the physical strength to rip the crystal heart off. he fumbles for a pokeball, barely finding the right one to call out his kecleon.[break][break]

"quick! we need to cut this!"[break][break]

but the kecleon's moveset is just as useless. by the time kyle emerges back out, the cacturne would've had its vitality drained, sucked dry from the crystal heart.

THE CRYSTABLOOM(S) attached to the Cacturne glow, their crystal hearts brimming with newfound energy. CIAN MAHER and kyle lopez would watch as the Cacturne shrivels, its energy directly transferred into the glowing flower. Its yellow eyes fade, rendering its eye holes completely, hauntingly black.

As kyle lopez takes his SYGNA SUIT off, perhaps, he'd be able to make the connection between it and what has transpired. Energy transfer of any sort—especially of ones dangerous and unknown—requires a medium. A catalyst. Perhaps, the people of Sea and Land Hoenn already understand this. Similarly, this Hoenn understands too...

Interestingly enough, one may wonder why Crystablooms came at a time where Hoenn's flora was at its most abundant and healthiest. If one could call it that...

KYLE WILL BE ABLE TO REVIVE THE CACTURNE WITH HIS POWERS.[break]

by the time he gets back, everything has withered away.

kyle rushes to pluck the crystalblooms off of the cacturne before his hands grow warm. he presses his palms against the grass-type before it ignites into embers. sacred fire bursts from the avatar as the cacturne burns into a shell of ash.

it chips away though, falling one grain at a time on cian's floors. the cacturne emerges from it, unconscious but alive.

kyle is speechless. there's been a few times he's used the ability, with instance just coming by instinct. he could say it was a natural response of his body, like a program deeply written in his dna, but that didn't make sense.

it takes another moment to process the information they just found.

it's stupid how flustered he got and how much he panicked. it led to the demise of his own cacturne all because he couldn't focus on calling out the right pokemon. such a stupid and costly mistake is made less grave by kyle's intervention.[break][break]

"fuck."[break][break]

he breathes, heart still pounding in his chest.[break][break]

"thanks for saving him."[break][break]

without even thinking about it, he gives the champion a hug. doesn't matter if it's from the front or side, his arms still wrap around kyle all the same.

his heart beats fast. he's not sure how he managed to do it, or whether it's an action he took consciously or not. from his perspective, his body moved on its own, but it didn't feel forced or anything.

he pats cian on the back, keeping himself speechless for a moment just until he recollects his thoughts.

"d-does that mean crystalblooms... do that?" he asks. he subconsciously disconnects himself from trauma with redirecting his attention to something else. "this isn't heard of for grass-types and their plants..."

the likes of bulbasaur show symbiosis, while the most extreme cases such as parasect don't even reach the case of death. conclusions were finalized, if only to keep his mind off of the death from a childish experiment.

he pulls away soon enough. there will come a time for cian to collect his hugs but now is not it. this isn't the worst loss he will have to go through.[break][break]

he grimaces at the thought. there's no actual telling since they aren't actual botanists and testing it one by one felt too dark, even with the reset button with ho-oh's gift.

"please don't say you're thinking of trying it out," he pleads. "maybe it's just the move that we baton passed or something. either way, yeah, maybe we can just leave this to the experts."

cian got out of rocket for a reason. he couldn't possibly want to resort back to their practices, right?
