This is the only path.

Gavin jests, and coughing again after his lines, he holds a hand up to the bartender, the burn not at all good for him. "Frozen strawberry margarita?" He grabs at his throat. That would chill that burning sensation in his throat.

Though he does cough, Gavin speaks, and Ash takes a breath in to hear every last bit. Once Gavin is done, Ashley finally lets it all out.

"I've already taken a life away. There's little else I can't do." He guiltily reveals, resolve burning strongly inside of him. "You tell me to shoot. I'll pull the trigger."

But the talk on Walsh... perplexes Ash a spell. Why would Gavin say something like that? His face contorts in confusion, to thinking, and finally realization. Ash swallows, a smile on his face, flimsy but still ever-present. "Like I said. Following you till I get there." That was a promise.

Feeling the buzz from the liquor, Gavin opts against refilling the glass. It was on an extremely rare occasion that he'd allow himself to get properly drunk, and this was not one of those times. The buzz relaxes tension in his muscles and the severity of his expression. That's enough.

"Mm. You'd think, wouldn't you?"

It's grim, his smile without warmth or humour. Those crimes added up, until you looked in the mirror and didn't recognize yourself anymore.

He's on the other side of it, now. He wouldn't recognize the reckless fool who'd joined Rocket in Kanto. This is his identity.

But, he'll not discourage Ashley's ambition.

He lifts his glass in a silent toast and drains the last, watery dregs of it down.

"You'd think."

Ash laughs, but Gavin's right. Talk is cheap. Moment the choice is given again, how can he say he won't freeze? Gavin took the kill in Trick or Sweet, but could Ashley have done it? Yes. After Juliette's pained groans, he would have without a second word. But the the mirror already showed someone he wasn't before years ago. He just learned to live with that reflection.

As Ash lifts up his own drink, gotten now by the bartender, he toasts before drinking it. Smoothly going down, a wonderful taste.

With a sigh of contentment, his audible sigh is exactly how he likes it. Light, with a lot of taste mixed in. The buzz is nice and good now, as he smiles to Gavin. This time, he'd follow through on his ambitions. Gavin was a good mentor for that. He would make true on his promise to follow Gavin till he got there.

Or die trying.
