A floral scent sought to linger upon his fingers as he began a descent down the mountain paths for what seemed to be a countless time since his return to the region. Anemone. Hydrangea. Chrysanthemums, gladioli, poppies— they had all melded together within the small bouquet he’d requested of the florist he’d made a better acquaintance of in recent days.[break][break]

They all had meaning, of course.[break]
He hadn’t always been one for flower lingo, but he ensured they all had meaning.[break][break]

With heart had he chosen them, and thus had he laid those parts of his heart to rest upon the marbled placard to keep its owner company for a little while longer. In light of a recent visit, he’d opted to spend a shorter time amidst the cemetery grounds before taking his leave.[break][break]
