kyle dresses up as maldacena this time, with his mightyena still sporting its old, cheap costume of a cardboard cutout of an unown, with the eye portion taken out to fit the entire thing on its head. it was unown-d for delta. he figures it's the best thing for the season.

he waits for melody 'freshen up' in the bathroom near the league's entrance. a trick-or-treat trip to the rich people of evergrande was going to give them the good candies, so they better hurry before the kids get to them first.

"you done yet?" kyle inquires.

he makes sure not to sound impatient, knowing that melody is impatient in the first place. still, saying it was counter-intuitive so it may appear as that anyways.

his wrist shows the time on his watch. kids have already roamed the streets for a long while now, given that they are RESPONSIBLE ADULTS^{^tm} that have day jobs.

kyle wonders if there are any good candies left in the generous houses of the neighborhood.

She finishes putting the pearls in her hair and also the seashell. "Yeah I just finished." she responded, trying to hurry up as she had really little time to get ready. [break][break]

She walks out of the bathroom, dressed up as a Primarina, her hair a deep blue with pearl accessories and a long blue dress mimicking the style of a Primarina. It was really similar to her Sygna suit during the Aqua meeting. [break][break]

"I'm surprised you wanna trick or treat." she said as her Primarina slid over, with paint in her hair to make her look like Melody. They swapped places for halloween. "You're that macarena guy?"

he doesn't bother to correct melody's pronunciation of the name.

"yeah. he has this cool hair thing and a scouter." kyle explains as he flicks the blue piece of hair that rings around his head.

melody's look was familiar, but kyle can't pinpoint where he saw it. maybe he'll just compliment it with a generic praise.

"your primarina costume is great. i didn't know you're a furry." primarina are actually mammals, so they technically count. "you should have one out so people can compare your costume with the real thing. that'll get us more candy."

people love a good thematic costume. it's why he has his mightyena out, after all. he's just a prop to his costume at the end of the day, like the dog that he is.

ah, poor melody. he forgot she didn't have much experience with the best day of the year for those that love the supernatural.

"it's called bias. people will give more candy subconsciously to costumes they like."

one of kyle's hands forms the shape of the bowl. the other hangs overhand in a claw, slowly swooping into the other hand's shape to grab the imaginary candy on it.

"like you know how people just grab and don't actually count how many they give? that's how you get them. the extra ones isn't a lot, but it adds up."

kyle doesn't actually know if it works that way universally, but it usually does at littleroot when he was a kid. he hasn't considered that parents of other kids just feel bad for him because he doesn't have his real parents though.

"I mean. Sounds like it'd work now that you put it like that." she responds "I'm no expert in psychology but people get sloppy when they aren't paying attention so you might be right." she says as she starts to look at herself and her primarina.[break][break]

"But by that logic, maybe people will give us extra cause we're famous? Not everyday an Elite 4 member and the champion of the region knock on people's door." she asks wondering what his thoughts were.

"hmm, that's true." clout does get him things based on personal experience. "but people also get judgmental about responsible adults going on activities usually reserved for kids."

he brushes the head of his mightyena at the mention of kids, who pants happily for getting the itch it can't from wearing the unown costume.

"if we get our pokemon out, we can say we're doing it for our pokemon. we dodge the judgment of bitter people and we got most of our bases covered."

kyle stares at the string of pokeballs melody has with her.

"come on, bring a 'mon our and we'll give them a costume."

"You're right. I have the perfect baby for this." she says as she pulls out her pokeball and her primarina gasps, surprised melody is going along with this and forgetting her primarina is already dressed up as Melody. [break][break]

Phione emerges from the ball and Melody hands her a pale. "Oh, crap wait what do we even dress it up as..." she says having no idea where to even begin.

they watch the same kid with a grass-type pumpkaboo get their candy. they really should get going fast or else these kids will take them all.

kyle folds his arms for a while, trying to think of what fits the phione. eventually, he finds an answer.

"oh, try this."

he takes out a handkerchief from his pocket and unfolds it from a square, only to fold it again to a triangle. he hands it to melody afterwards.

"give it an eyepatch. that's an easy pirate costume."

he would say it's a reference to a certain cyclops councilman, but a pirate sounds more generic if someone else asks about the costume.
