The Safari Zone is not the sort of place he’d usually visit in disguise, but his reason to do so this time is simple enough.

By his side stands the Zorua that had been trained all of her life to maintain this sort of ILLUSION. She does an incredible job at it and has never failed him – not even after a space-time distortion changed her recently. She is, however, far from a fighter.

As Mars had learned during his previous visit with his Electivire, the area with the Kecleon comes first. Theoretically, the Zorua shouldn’t have much trouble with it, unaffected by Normal attacks as this variant seems to be, but its propensity towards using Ghost moves might be a problem.

Mars decides to let her learn on her own.
[break][break]
He clicks his tongue, signalling for an attack, and as expected, SHADOW CLAW is her choice. It does nothing at all, but neither does the Kecleon’s POWER UP PUNCH.

They keep at it for a moment, clearly growing tired just from using attacks, and eventually, the Zorua’s SLUDGE BOMB lands a hit.

From there on it’s easy enough.

Mars doesn’t praise her, he just keeps walking. She better keep the ILLUSION up.

The next pokémon they’re supposed to encounter are Mankey, but the first one Mars sees has a green tint to its fur. At first, he wonders if it's just dirty: if it rolled around in the grass or if there’s some kind of gross moss growing on it. A quick look at his phone’s Pokédex app confirms that it's actually shiny.

Such being the case, he steps towards it and nods. One click.

The Zorua runs, but she pauses halfway there. Is it too far? Apparently. If she got any further, she probably wouldn’t be able to maintain her ILLUSION.

Since it's an understandable concern, he simply follows along, watching as a SLUDGE BOMB is shot towards the Mankey. She follows it up with a SLASH.

Mars has his suspicions about what will happen when they encounter the Klink, and those suspicions quickly see themselves confirmed.

A click of his tongue commands an attack and it comes in the form of a SLUDGE BOMB just as it had before. Steel type as Klink is, it does nothing at all, and the Zorua wimpers for a second or two. Mars just tilts his head and commands it to attack once more.

BITTER MALICE does the trick after a moment, although it may have only been used due to the fox’s own frustration.

It doesn’t matter, it’s learning.

A decent target for the Zorua; not resistant to anything but its own type, yet also not weak to any of the moves known by the little fox. These are not meant to be particularly easy fights and ultimately even a small bear can be a challenge sometimes.

The Zorua might end up exhausted after all this is done, but that’s not Mars’ problem, is it now?

Dealing with the Cubchoo takes an acceptable amount of time.

He looks at his watch, for even when disguised, a precise watch is fundamental – according to Mars, at least. There’s a few minutes left until he decides that they should leave, and as such, every second must count.

They move at a quick pace down the path, and once again, a Jigglypuff stands right in the middle of it, as if waiting. This one does SING. It doesn’t seem to bother the spectral Zorua all that much, but the blond man does find himself yawning.

He almost steps on it. Not like he can be blamed, right? It’s just lying there in the middle of the road: half-buried and of an unremarkable colour.

It’s the Zorua that notices it, growling quietly at it, and honestly, Mars is glad for that.

A single click of his tongue tells the small vulpine pokémon all she needs to know: this is an enemy that must be dealt with.

She acts swiftly, poison and slashes being paired up as she has learned to do during their time here.
