When seeing the small Inkay happily float around and twirl in the air, Mars chuckles. Usually, the shoal of them is kept in their tank at his home office, but while the aquarium is great and spacious and well cared for, it sure isn’t like being outdoors.

Only one of his many Inkay accompanies him this time. Lethe. The first of them. The original. The one that had been his companion through many of his battles in the Hoenn Star Tournament.

A METAL SOUND rings through the air, and with it a blade comes slashing towards them. The Inkay makes use of its PSYBEAM to push it out of its trajectory, bobbing up and down as if all of this were extremely enjoyable to it.

Mars quirks a brow, but at his lips there’s still a slight smirk.
[break][break]
A single finger snap gives a command, and with it, the Inkay’s lights shine. HYPNOSIS falls upon the Honedge just as it turns to strike back, causing it to fall straight to the ground while in deep slumber.

Just like that, Mars keeps walking

As they keep on walking, the Inkay’s luminescent spots begin to shine: bright and intermittent, as if in a pattern. Is it trying to communicate? With him or with something else? He’s seen some of his pokémon do this kind of thing before, so he looks around in search.

Among the bushes there’s another light. One that responds to the Inkay with a similar pattern.

Mars decides to let them be; smiling faintly to himself as he walks past the psychic bug. As expected, his Inkay follows dutifully.

A SLASH cuts the trunk of a tree, then another and another. They see it before it sees them: the Gallade practising its cuts against a harmless evergreen that probably doesn’t deserve all that heavy damage.

Gallade are a species he likes, after all, and Mars will always favour pokémon that have a spirit for combat, but…

But the world might be ending, and it’s not like he currently has time to train a lot of new pokémon.
