He still isn't used to all this snow. It's still just as magical in his mind as it was the first time he saw it fall from their apartment and badgered Ikarus Rook to go outside.[break][break]

Now he had a nice, puffy jacket to brace against the chill - something he also needs to get used to because coming from somewhere like hau'oli has only made his skin thin against this weather.[break][break]

He's on a mission today, though: a delibird mission.[break][break]

The safari zone is dusted in a layer of white as he tromps through the area. His talonflame, Ziti, follows overhead. Not fond of the snow on his little paws, Noodle is tucked into his jacket. The shinx's head pops out of the top of his jacket too. Like a weird sort of doduo combo.[break][break]

An icy little sandshrew pokes its head up out of a snow drift where it's burrowed. Lam pauses to look at it, and Ziti sensing the opportunity to catch suddenly divebombs with talons out. The sandshrew is having none of this, so ducks back down into its burrow and his talonflame pulls away and circles back to where he stands.

The snow sounded crunchy under his feet, but like, totally different than the crunchiness that leaves sounded like in the fall. It was...fascinating? He still didn't care for the cold, but he couldn't get over the snow just yet. Maybe it was childish, but it was sort of a marvel too.[break][break]

Their march took them along the edge of a wide pond where the shallower edges had started to freeze over. Lam tapped a foot against the ice, watching it bob against the water still loose underneath. Surely nothing wanted to hang out in the frigid--[break][break]

A staryu did, apparently. Irritably, it rose up out of a deeper spot. How did he know it was irritated? Staryu didn't have faces... maybe it was the wave it generated with SURF, angled at Ziti who flew up higher into the air out of the way with an agitated screech. "You're up, buddy," he said to the shinx in his coat. Noodle blinked, and then promptly burrowed deeper against his chest. No? Okay, guess they were running away.

What’s a mareep doing out in all this snow? It doesn’t make much sense to Lam, and the sheep pokemon obviously isn’t a delibird, but it’s cute and staticky, so he hails his talonflame. “Ziti, you’re up! No fire, please!” That would melt all the snow.[break][break]

Ziti flips and twists in the air, putting on a formidable ACROBATICS show before divebombing the mareep in a heavy body tackle. Lam follows the collision with a pokeball.

Lam stoops to pick up the pokeball, and when he tilts forward, it accidentally causes Noodle to tumble out of his jacket. The shinx voices his irritation quickly, paws lifting up as he tries and fails to not step in the snow because it’s…well…everywhere.[break][break]

“Sorry, buddy,” Lam apologizes before nudging him forward when an eiscue trundles out, sliding on slippery, webbed feet. “Time to stop making Ziti do all the work, though.” Noodle grumbles, but barrels forward into the eiscue, electrical static kicking up around him in a WILD CHARGE before they collide.

Noodle, still irritated that he had to step on the snow, paws at Lam’s pant leg until he finally picks the shinx up and tucks him into his jacket again. “You’re way too spoiled,” he grumbles as he burrows deeper into the downy puff of Lam’s coat.[break][break]

As they climb a snowy slope, a large shadow cast over them from something moving on a ledge above them. Maybe it was like…a yeti or abominable snowman? What leapt down then, though wasn’t even an abomasnow, but a pineco casting a shadow bigger than itself. Ziti promptly blew it away with a sharp gust of RAZOR WIND.

By the time they crest the hill and slid down the other side, Lam is starting to think that maybe his hunt is a lost cause. Maybe he should try to find something other than a delibird? But he came prepared and everything! Unfortunately, though, he’s not accustomed or built for the cold and even he’s starting to feel shivery. Toes starting to go numb in his boots and through his socks.[break][break]

He’s just starting to think of gifts to give that would be affordable in his limited budget (maybe a creepy pokédoll for Ikarus Rook’ mimikyu Rosie, that she can repurpose into another disguise?) when he sees it— a flash of red out of the corner of his eye, stark against the white, snowy landscape.[break][break]

A gloved hand reaches into his coat pocket for the tin of sardines he brought along, popping the tab so that the scent wafts out and drifts toward the delibird and halts it in its waddling tracks. “Alright, my dude…easy does it.” Though Lam approaches with caution, the delibird is apparently not shy in the least. It’s webbed feet plap plap plap against the snow as it eyes the fishy treat with laser focus.
