“Yeah, I’ve never seen anything like it. Sort of makes me wonder if a big freeze is coming for the rest of the region.”[break][break]

Preemptively, Stella darts forward to smack into an approaching snover, bowling it over with her QUICK ATTACK before it has the chance to go on the offensive. Even though it was sort of just minding its own business. Wren thinks it’s kind of cute, though, in an awkwardly endearing sort of way, so he tosses a pokeball toward it.[break][break]

His head turns back toward the man, and his brows knit together warily. Usually, Wren is trusting, but something about the question makes his guard shoot up.[break][break]

“I suppose that’s true, yes..” he answers, cautiously.

a delibird plap plap plaps out into the open and wren's immediately delight by the water fowl. ice fowl? he's not splitting hairs. he waves at it, and it lifts one flipper wing and waves back. then it continues to waddle over, peering up at him atop his gogoat. it offers the back it was dragging along. which feels like a sign of good favor.[break][break]

the question pulls his attention back to the man, and a soft frown flits over the younger ranger's expression. "Chaotic. A little unbelievable, really." as for where to start, that's anyone's guess.

he's not talking about existing forces already stationed there. team rocket had accounted for that much. knew to plan around the small squadron of league forces. he's talking about the added forces that were enough to rival even the strongest such as bryan delarosa.[break][break]

"it's almost as though they were prepared for an attack."[break][break]

Wren’s head tilts at the remark, and it makes that uneasiness turn over in his stomach tenfold. A bad feeling.[break][breakW

He’s not a skilled liar, not by a long shot. So omission is smarter, vagueness. Wren isn’t about to try his hand.[break][break]

Luckily, he is distracted by the descent of a skarmory, and he whistles to urge Basil forward—still on the gogoat’s back, rather than his umbreon. It gives him the chance to think. To keep his breathing even and his poker face on as his mount surges toward the skarmory.[break][break]

He shoots BULLET SEEDS in rapid succession, and the metal bird descends like a crashing plane. Wren throws a ball before it can hit the ground.[break][break]

As he turns back, wheeling the gogoat around, it’s with a smile fixed on his face. “No matter how it seems, it’s good they were there to assist the town. We’re here to serve the environment and its inhabitants, after all.”[break][break]

He doesn’t mention lines between forces, or battle tactics, or plans. Because, though perhaps his peers would disagree, Wren is more gray on the matter. It’s not about who comes out on top. It’s why he didn’t come in like a wrecking ball that day, it’s why he chose to heal Felix Gallagher while staring down the barrel of a gun.[break][break]

Wren is a bad liar, but this isn’t a lie. His smile doesn’t waver.

Wren is admiring a second amaura when the question comes and he turns back to the man with a puzzled frown. “I didn’t think so, but I suppose I’m not sure.”[break][break]

It was a frenzied moment, full of panic because Wren was too busy falling in the sinkhole with a broken ankle to really take in who was doing what.[break][break]

Still, his smile returns and he leaves the amaura be as he shifts toward the stranger. “If that were the case though, the league would be wrong, just like Rocket would be, if it was them.”[break][break]

The insinuation does little to sow doubt because Wren’s mediator nature outweighs any desire to pick a side.[break][break]

“I was there to help the city. And the people and pokemon there,” he says evenly, chin tilting upward with a level of firmness, any former nervousness fading. “The people, regardless of who.”

“Do we?” he asks, and though it might sound taunting, it’s not. It’s simple curiosity. It’s not like all rangers are so neutral. There are definitely those who grow far more heated in favor of the league, ready to rip at rocket.[break][break]

A small, pink creature SKITTERS across the ice, weapon raised to SMACK out at Wren’s umbreon. Before it can happen, though, the umbreon ducks away and then jumps out toward it from the side with a loud, shrill bark of sound. Enough to QUICK ATTACK the small pokemon and fumble its footing–sending it sliding into Wren’s waiting pokeball.[break][break]

“You might find it ignorant, but I don’t.”[break][break]

He shrugs. “Coins have two sides.People have reasons for what they do.” And surely not every single member of Rocket is bad down to their marrow, just like the league isn’t righteous or infallible at upholding order.
