Any hope of things returning to the barest shade of normalcy after the meteor raids had been dashed fitfully on the same knife that took Isaac’s eye. Whether it was the unseasonable cold or the hole in her boyfriend’s head or the constant fear that she was going to drive him away with overmothering, things were definitely not returning to normal.

She didn’t need a break. She needed an outlet. One that didn’t involve spitting fire out of a welding torch, because her fingers were starting to scar.

Landing on her palms, she pushed herself up and glared at the strange creature. “What the fuck are you?”

The Fuecoco (not that she knew its name) barked raspily at her and quite hurriedly ran to nestle up against her chest because it was almost freezing out.

“Oh,” Cyg said, all her rage dissipating in a single second as she wrapped an arm around the crocodilian and carried it with her as she stood. “Uh. Okay. You’re kinda cute, I guess?”

Fuecoco kicked its little legs and snuggled closer to her.
