”Okay, Xan. I need you to take this seriously.” Mars tells the Dragapult which in turn looks at him, tilting its head in utter confusion. Naturally, the Dreepy in its horns also do so. ”We have a performance coming up, so I need you to be in the best shape possible.”

The Dragapult wags the tip of its tail as if it were a happy pup, but Mars has a feeling it doesn’t really understand what he’s talking about.

Oh well, no time to waste.

With this said, he starts jogging, and of course, the ever so clingy pokémon follows right along, easily keeping up with his speed while in flight. Must be nice to not have to walk, right?

Nothing quite like the sound of bells chiming in the wilderness, right? Or, well, more like the sound of bells chiming in a mountain that's filled with as many trees as graves and tombstones...

Regardless, there's bells, and Mars is familiar enough with the sound to know it to mean one thing: a Chingling is nearby. So, he pauses, looking around, and it's then that he sees it flying near the top of a tree.

Sadly for it, this means Xanthos is given a command, and soon enough the Dragapult is biting on the little pokémon as if it were some kind of chew toy. He quickly gets sick of it, though, and its with his tail that it slaps the Chingling away. Is it really no more than a glorified ball?

What’s better than a chew ball that rings like a bell? Apparently one that floats higher and is concerningly spiky.

The moment Xanthos catches sight of the Solrock, his thoughts are all too obvious to Mars, but while the Dragapult and its Dreepy would undeniably love to play with (read: bully) the wild pokémon to exhaustion, their trainer puts a quick stop to all that.

He snaps his fingers, and just like that, Xanthos turns to look at him, returning to his side dutifully.

”Good. Let’s go.”

And so they do.

On his way to the summit of the mountain, Mars encounters one more interruption. This time, it’s not a sound that alerts him of its presence, but the fact that it crosses his path – innocently levitating as if nothing in the world could disturb it.

So, Paldean pokémon really are present in Hoenn’s ecosystem now, huh? Had Meteno and the primal points had something to do with that? It seems likely.

He looks to his side, noticing a berry bush, and after grabbing a couple, he uses them to lure the wild Flittle towards him with a whistle. After all, anyone who has been to Paldea knows that Flittle adores berries.
