History:

The result of an affair between her mom and a younger man. Adopted by the other partner and the infidelity was a well-kept family secret for years. Her two older siblings were aware of this but kept it hidden.
Grew up happy on the ocean's coast with a military family. Was taught fencing and basic combat skills from a young age. Was also brought up to believe deeply in the Pokemon gods. Her choices of otems were Arceus and the Swords. The family did not believe in owning Pokemon and her interactions with them were filled with awe.
During an outing with her mother and father, a surprise storm capsized their ship.
Lydia was saved by a large white creature with glowing eyes. Its waves pushed her towards the safety of the nearest shore. In years since, she has come to believe it Lugia. The psychic type took the Swords place within her heart. Lydia was 9 at the time.
Returned repeatedly to the sea in hopes of seeing this creature
Joined the military right after high school, ignoring her father's reservation. Graduated from officer's school and did quite well for herself. She eventually ended up in Kanto before serving a short stint in Johto. An injury led to her being honorably discharged.
Around the time she left the hospital a letter arrived from someone claiming to be her biological father.
Lydia followed the man to Kanto and Alola before finally receiving an invite to meet back in Hoenn. Along the way, she found a bunch of clues and riddles but got no closer to her mother. Upon arriving at the assigned meeting place, she was knocked out and her possessions stolen. Even her necklace was taken.
With her tail between her legs, Lydia returned home to sulk. But an encouraging talk her father Pops got her to consider applying for the Ranger Corps. But, first, she wants to bring whoever fleeced her to justice.
With all her injuries healed, Lydia is looking for a place to support her while she readies herself for training.
