One last visit to the Safari Zone for the month. What could Mars possibly be missing that he hasn’t caught on both previous occasions he’s been here? Simple: another Mareep.

No, he doesn’t care for having his own little herd of sheep, but he does care for having complete evolution lines, and so, here we are.

Today Atropos is by his side, and it’s gracefully that the wicked Hatterene glides over the snow as if she belonged in these fields of winter. If the cold bothers her; she sure doesn’t show it, even going as far as quietly chuckling to herself while looking at her surroundings from beneath that characteristic hat of hers.

Hoenn is meant to be a tropical region; there shouldn’t be snow like this in winter. Yet, for years now, there has been cause after cause for snowfall, ranging from radiation from Ultra Wormholes to the eternal frost summoned by a gargantuan Kyurem only a few weeks ago. Perhaps that says something about the region, or even about the fate of this universe. Perhaps, in the end, the Origin Point will be the Big Freeze that overtakes it all and destroys the world.

For now, though, there’s simply snow, and in that snow plays an innocent Sandshrew, blissfully unaware of the silent witch that watches it closely.

One gesture is all it takes for the witch to strike, scattering her MAGIC POWDER in the chill breeze before hitting the wild pokémon with a now all too effective BRUTAL SWING.

Even though the path Mars follows passes right by a stream, he ignores it, letting the Staryu that dwell within be. As much as he may like the species, he has no reason to mess with them today. It would be different if he were diving.

There are other pokémon he’s looking for, and with that in mind, the banker keeps walking.

Gracefully, the Hatterene follows along, paying little mind to most of the pokémon she can sense around them – only hostile feelings manage to disturb her.

Not many sights seem more peaceful than a herd of Mareep, and at this time of the year, with winter’s cold having fallen upon the Safari Zone, they all group together as closely as they can get. It’s kind of cute, honestly, but it also makes them easy targets.

Mars whistles, alerting the Mareep, but that sure isn’t enough to save them all from the attack of the Hatterene.
[break][break]
The TRICK ROOM hinders their escape, and it soon becomes clear that they’re at the witch’s mercy. Thankfully for them, Mars only cares for catching one Mareep, and once that is done the rest are allowed to escape.

Ever seen a sleeping Eiscue? No? Well, neither had Mars, not until this very moment...

What are the odds of a pokémon being conveniently asleep and easy to catch? Low, to be sure, and in this case it takes a Mars a moment to figure out that that is actually what's happening here. The Eiscue stands still, unmoving, and although the ice cube covering its head is quite large, it tilts as if having found a comfortable position to rest.

It would be cruel to bother it, no?

Good thing Mars definitely has no need for another Eiscue.

Such may just be the fate that awaits the first Pineco he encounters, which sadly falls victim to the Hatterene’s cruel MAGIC POWDER. Having changed the type of the wild pokémon, she strikes, using her spectral attacks to cause harm.

This one is a bit tricker, though.

See… Delibird seem nice and all, but they’re actually cunning little birds, and apparently this one is of the mind of running away and throwing PRESENTS towards the Hatterene. She doesn’t seem at all amused by this.

Mars, naturally, does no more than stand back and whistle one simple note.

This results in TRICK ROOM activating, which slows down the poor bird. From there on this is the Hatterene’s game.

BRUTAL SWING strikes true… again and again.
