[attr="class","rosepost"]Is it perfect? Lam isn't sure, but the bug-eyed pokemon is definitely interesting. And it's really, honestly adorable to see Rook fawn over all these pokemon the way he is. It definitely proves that their type own preferences diverge, but he'd been so good with each one they'd encountered today.[break][break]

"Do it!" he encouraged, reaching up to rub the other's shoulders like he was amping up a boxer in the ring, instead.[break][break]

He was swiftly distracted, though, when another clefairy toddled out. But before Lam could remark about it, the illusion flickered and the bright pink visage fell away to reveal a small zorua. "Oh, it's like a baby Jinx," he said, twisting back to look at Rook with a wide-eyed puppydog expression.[break][break]

It looked pretty small, though, so maybe that was why it couldn't keep up the act.[break][break]

Stooping, he rummage in his pockets until he found a berry he could offer it, allowing it to approach cautiously to sniff at the treat before chancing a pat to the top of its head.

Sure, maybe Rook was a little over-excitable? Definitely, but he liked what he liked. They'd never been exactly normal, but he still liked the pokemon he caught. They were unique. He was odd too, of course, so maybe that was how he justified it. He knew that Lam didn't always understand his tastes, but he was always really supportive and that was really all that Rook could ask for.

"A Zorua!! Catch it, catch it, Lam!" He laughed before quieting a little at that, realizing he didn't want to scare the little fox pokemon off.

His own attention was stolen by the Swirlix watching the act in dopey silence. "Aww, hey there little guy." He knelt in front of the pokemon, it dopey smile firmly affixed to its fluffball face. "Wanna be my friend, huh?"

[attr="class","rosepost"]“Workin’ on it,” he replied with a laugh of his own, berry still offered to the zorua. It wasn’t until it allowed him to pat its head that he gently tapped it with a pokeball in the other. “It’s so cute, I wonder if Jinx will play with it.”[break][break]

When he turned back toward Rook, though, he was already befriending yet another pokemon. It was also mad cute, really. Maybe it went even beyond just training, but his boyfriend just seemed to have a way with all sorts of pokemon. Even more than the way with birds that he had that Rook was always remarking on.[break][break]

It was sweet, really. Though speaking of birds…a murkrow fluttered down from a tree with a caw. Naturally, it landed on the arm offered by Lam. But after a moment, he turned to his partner. Arm outstretched in offering for it to hop over to Rook’s. “Hey, I think this might be a bird you actually like. Just a feeling.”[break][break]

He pointed toward something that looked like carparts trying to hide innocuously by a tree. “I wanna catch that, anyway.” With a whistle, his talonflame came soaring down, wings cloaked in fire to collide with a FLAME CHARGE.

Jinx seemed excited enough about the idea of a younger version of her. So he couldn't imagine she'd have a problem, in the end. His mind was instead slipping to the grumpy little murkrow staring down at him. She was really quite adorable, one of the only bird types that he appreciated seeing. Thus he couldn't give up the opportunity to catch her. Jinx struck out then with shadow ball and Rook quickly threw a pokeball.

Lazily, he leaned against him, head propping on the other’s shoulder. “I would say so, yeah. Better than the last time, for sure.” He still felt a bit bad that Rook hadn’t been able to find much he’d liked that day.[break][break]

Another stunky crept out and Ziti quickly dove down to smack into it with a STEEL WING. But his attention had already turned back to Rook, eyes hopeful. “You’re having a good time, yeah? Enough to keep doing this together?”

The last couple of times coming out, it had been harder for Rook to connect to the situation. Maybe he was too picky with his pokemon, or it just hadn't connected with him. He wasn't entirely certain what Lam saw in his "skills", especially when Lam seemed far more natural and at ease with pokemon and battling in general.

"Yeah, of course I am. Even if I wasn't being lucky, I'd still want to do this with you." Lam never pressured him, never made him feel any kind of expectation, it was nice. "Oh another one of those weird food dogs." He knelt down in front of the dachsbun. "Here little guy."

Rather than engage it that time, he inched forward and offered it some sunflower seeds from a container in his knapsack. Birds loved it—maybe nidoran would too?[break][break]

He drifted back to Rook’s orbit, as he had a habit of always doing. Gravitating back to that natural, comfortable pull to always be in reaching distance. “I don’t know if it’s just luck, Rook,” he replied, smiling down at him where he knelt in front of the dachsbun “This one is like, extra toasty.”[break][break]

It did make him smiley and dumb to know that Rook would be interested just because it was done with him. But even then, Lam had never seen someone so exceptionally gentle with Pokémon as Rook was. That was more than luck. Almost like understanding.

It was nice to get out with the other, even if just on a little walk. It was even nicer that Lam was taking the time to encourage him. He'd never felt particularly motivated to be a trainer, even if at one time he'd considered it. He'd never really been encouraged to do anything and therein lied the problem. He didn't know what he wanted anymore, but Lam made it easier.

[attr="class","rosepost"]Lam had never really felt excited for setting some sort of course for his life before. He’d grown restless with drifting, though. Even more so when he and Rook got together. He was no longer content to sustain just himself. And doing this together somehow made it better, even if they were only taking tentative beginner steps now.[break][break]

But it was fun.[break][break]

He grinned at the new dog that had appeared. “It’s a cute little grimace pup. You’re catching all the dogs today, babe.” Wonder how Miss Moony was gonna feel about that.[break][break]

A carbink FLAILED out in front of them. “Aw, it looks like it got stuck on its side.” It must not have been able to right itself. Lam approached it slowly, and reached to turn it back upright with a push. But before it could spin away, he tapped it with a pokeball.

"Not usually a dog fan, but all these guys are so cute and unique." There wasn't a pokemon in Hoenn or beyond that Rook wouldn't qualify as cute though. He loved all of them, though the odd ones were obviously his favorites. It was nice to finally take the time to do something like this with Lam. Before meeting him, most of the time was spent alone or in the stunted silence of awkward company. Or talking to his pokemon who weren't great conversationalists. But now he had someone, someone that actually cared to hear him talk and wanted to hang out with him. It was nice.

"Oh an umbreon." He gasped before slipping closer. "Hey little buddy, how are you doing?" The umbreon flicked a long ear, staring up at him with curious eyes as he attempted to catch.
