before the bibarel can dive into the water and escape echo's clutches, a beam of red light absorbs its form. freya raises a hand to hide her smile as echo plops into the water in confusion. she turns twice in the shallow water and trills before lithely leaping back onto the water.

the water drips down her scales, droplets scattering as she flicks her tail like a fan. she preens the lenses over her eyes and misses the shadow watching her from behind a pile of rubble. the form behind it surges forward and bowls over her.

freya doesn't startle and neither does echo. the flygon immediately rounds on the gabite and pummels it into the earth with a good one-two punch. she tosses her own capsule after.

"the pleasure's mine," she says. and then, "it's nice to have company actually." safer too.

"the unown - are they tied into all this Hoenn weirdness? the rifts and the distortions?"

Some would think he would be reluctant to disclose information, but the truth is that, for the most part, these are things anyone could learn about if they're willing to put in the effort. Interested in Unown as Mars has been for some time, Mars will always be willing to talk about them if he finds the person to be likable enough.

"unknown forces beyond our control? helping hoenn? i've heard that one before," she says wryly and after a couple of beats realizes what she'd said. with a sigh, she adds, "no pun intended."

echo chirps and scampers forward. she clambers over the rocky walls, following the ghostly presence that illuminates their path. the snarls and roars have dimmed somewhat and freya frowns.

"i used to come here with an expeditionary team. we studied the wild dragons here. but things have changed." in more ways than one.

"there's a waterfall nearby, off the beaten path. a beautiful sight, if you want to see it." she pauses. "so long as you're not scared of small spaces. there's a tight squeeze on the way."

"Shame, I do love puns." He says it as a joke, but it's actually the truth, Mars has a certain appreciation for a clever play on words.

A slumbering Tirtouga doesn't seem all too pleased with the light produced by the Dragapult, being woken and soon attempting to bite down on the tail of the phantasmagoric dragon. Xanthos hisses, tail becoming incorporeal, and of course, his retaliation comes swift in the form of his PHANTOM FORCE.

Mars sighs, chucking a Luxury Ball towards the fallen water type, but his attention returns to Freya soon enough, interest piqued at the mention of a waterfall.

"Sounds promising. I do just fine with small spaces." Once upon a time, long ago, his childhood self had struggled with claustrophobia, but those days are long gone, and small spaces seem much less threatening when one has the ability to easily teleport out of them. "Sorry to hear that things have changed, though. I hope that for the better, in some ways."

Change is inevitable, although he sure has a tendency to fight it when it's inconvenient to him.

and after their pact is made, she grins to herself. echo preens loudly, head on the swivel. another dragon comes to answer the call. they skirmish and freya makes a few callouts, but this is echo's element. she manipulates the earth with her thumping feet, exchanging ground-shaking blows with her wild counterpart.

eventually the gabite is left with one knee bent, chest puffing with exertion. freya tosses a ball and looks back at her companion.

"right. let's go then."
