For a year now (it has been just about a year since he first met Father Winter in Granite Cave) Mars’ morning routine hasn’t changed: a few days a week he TELEPORTS to Mount Pyre, jogs up the mountain, searches for Unown, and then teleports back home to shower and get ready for work.

Today is a slight change, but in the simple fact that he had gone to Mount Pyre earlier than usual, jogged up the mountain, then down, and decided to make his way through Route 121.

The first pokémon that appears is, of course, not an Unown, because that would just be too easy, no?

Instead, Mars sees a Beheeyem floating not all that far ahead, and being unable to determine if the pokémon will ignore him or turn hostile, he decides to play it safe and change routes. Sure, he could call something out of a pokéball and have them deal with this potential problem, but honestly, he'd rather just keep running.

Why allow himself an interruption for this, right?

The point of exhaustion comes eventually. Muscles ache, every step heavier than the last, and his lungs burn with every breath. He could slow down. He could stop and take a break. Of course he doesn’t do either.

Mars keeps on running, and when he almost crashes into a Yamask that suddenly makes itself visible, attempting to knock him back with its OMINOUS WIND, the banker reacts instinctively: TELEPORTING past it.

Teleporting hadn’t been an instinct before, but with almost a year having passed since he first obtained the ability, it feels as natural as breathing.

He does teleport too far, though: almost to the opposite end of Route 121.

As he’s about to leave the route, something catches his eye: at the shore, by the ocean, a Solrock basks under the rising sun. It makes for a bit of a hilarious sight, given the Pokémon's shape, but sadly, Mars doesn’t really have much time to be entertained by things of that kind.

He too takes a moment to admire the actual sun, catching his breath, and once this moment is over, he looks at the smartwatch on his wrist to check the time.
