It had been a startling sight, to see the mightyena stagger out into the middle of the road. Slow and stumbling steps, slow and sluggish deep breaths, all lead up to the dark-type collapsing in the open - panting. Initially, Ettie's thought had been that the mightyena was injured - and yet, as the pack drew closer to investigate, they came to realize that the answer was something different. Namely, that of hunger - the mightyena appeared to be dangerously thin, her fur coat lacking any shine or its natural thickness, and her muscles lacking.
If Ettie had to hazard a guess, there were likely two major factors in the poor hyena's situation. For on one hand, she was alone; there was no pack to speak of, as far as Ettie could see - and none of her own pokemon detected anything else nearby either. A lone hunter didn't have to catch anything big to fill their belly, sure, but they also had fewer options for food they could actually catch. At least with a pack, even if everyone had to eat, a small catch was still a catch - and if other predators or scavengers came along, you had a better chance of fending them off to keep it.
But on the other hand, was also the shift in climate. Ettie didn't have to be a meteorologist to know that this was the coldest the region has ever been as far as she could remember - and with the weather changes, also came changes in food availability. Cold meant times of lean, despite the fact that the weather means you find yourself having to eat more to keep up with your metabolism trying to warm you back up.
All it took was one too many missed meals though, and it was a bit of a downward spiral from there. You'd find yourself with less and less energy, energy that could've been spent on hunts that only continue to go wrong because you lack the strength necessary. Go on long enough, despite the stomach pains and growing aches and fatigue, and well...
... One day, you simply fall asleep, and never wake back up.
Safe to say, Ettie sympathized with the mightyena's plight - she was no stranger to going to sleep on an empty belly, even if things never got as dire as the dark-type's situation did. Stepping closer, she'd kneel down next to the hyena - even as the mightyena turned her weary eyes onto Ettie, and let out a weak warning growl.
Ettie wasn't daunted by this, however - and instead, she'd simply attempt to make herself appear smaller, speaking softly. "Is okay..." She murmured, digging through her bag. "Am friend." She'd avoid meeting the dark-type's eyes for too long, so as to avoid conveying any sort of aggression - all the whilst pulling out some jerky. "Not a lot... But Ettie share," She spoke - taking a piece into her mouth, and chewing on it to soften it, not unlike how pups being weaned were sometimes fed in her old pack. And once it was easier to swallow down, she'd offer it to the mightyena.
Even if Ettie didn't have a lot of meat on her right now, that was okay - they could hunt for more, once the mightyena had something on her stomach. But either way, she was here to help the mightyena - no one would starve on her watch. Catching Mightyena
