Together in his little kitchen tucked away in Rustboro, the two made headway into the dish, Penelope prepping the meat and Cian doing...most likely everything else. In the background, Le Festin from the original motion-picture film ratatouille played softly. The song's highs and lows provide the perfect backdrop of their picturesque lives as chefs together.

Piece by piece, Penelope chunked through the piece of meat, each slice coming out in various sizes. She would try to keep them precise and thin, but somehow, they'd always come out a little wrong.

Smiling brightly, she turned back toward Cian and proudly gestured toward the now-sliced meat.

in the time it takes her to finish slicing the beef, he's prepared most of everything else. it helps that all of it can be done in one single pan so it saves him the trouble of having to constantly move around.[break][break]

he makes no comment about it, however. all he does is turn and smile at her, proud as ever.[break][break]

"nicely done! you can toss them in right here."[break][break]

the sliced beef joins other ingredients as they combine together to make the perfect dish. off to the side, rice cooks away (in a cooker instead of a pot), and their meal completes not long after that.[break][break]

after scooping rice into bowls, he tips the beef bulgogi into a plate for them to share, and heads over to the small dining table he had bought just so they had a nice place to sit and eat.[break][break]

"holy this smells really good. oh right. what do you wanna drink?"

In a matter of seconds dinner was finished and served.

While he went to grab their drinks, she helped prepare the table, taking out small cloth mats to place under their dishes, some napkins, and utensils. Last, but not least, she moved to light up one of their many candles around the living room, just to prevent the smell of meet from permeating much further than the small dining room table.

She would wait before they were both sitting down, with their plates fully set out in front of them, before even reaching out for the sizzling pieces of tantalizingly good looking meat. When she did, it came with great pleasure.

soon returning with glasses of ice-cold water, he places them down on the table before taking a seat across from her. their dinner rests on the table, ready to be dug into.[break][break]

"yup! have you ever seen those duet videos where they have a game running on the side to help stimulate your attention? those get me a lot, but one of them was this recipe video so that was nice."[break][break]

pretty sure the game was subway surfers. he's since downloaded it and has clocked an hour or two while on the toilet.[break][break]

If anyone else told her what Cian just said, Penelope might've cringed internally. Just the image of spending time watching a split-screened video, one side involving a game, was a bit...different than what she was used to. But, because of him, she found his story endearing.

And now look at him. Gathering recipes, leading her around in the kitchen -- he really made a 180 in such a short time span.

she's right, though. to go from being unable to cook at all (maybe except a pack of instant ramen) to looking up recipes and cooking them with relative ease is amazing. he's proud of himself, honestly, and it shows in the way his smile brims.[break][break]
