Rowan glanced down at his phone every once in a while, hoping for a message that he assumed would never come. It'd been a few hours since he'd sent the invitation to Melody for them to speak in Pacifidlog Town, after months of silence between them. He'd hoped the neutral ground of the nautical hamlet would have been welcoming, but perhaps it was still too soon.[break][break]

A gentle tugging at his pants leg stirred Rowan from his thoughts, that of an annoyed Prinplup who was tired of standing around all day. "Just a few more minutes, Mistral." He rested his arms on the wooden railing, amber eyes scanning the horizon for any oncoming travelers. "I know she'll be here." The words were muttered underneath his breath, full of either hope or denial.

She was usually never late to anything, if she was told to be there right at 9 am she'd be there at that exact time or even earlier. [break][break]

However this time she did show up late, only 5 minutes late. But for someone like rowan who knew her better than most he'd know it was abnormal. [break][break]

She stands on her lapras as it drifts into the meeting area, melody standing perfectly still on it, the tips of her hair dyed blue to signify her new self. She stares at him with daggers in her eyes, she hadn't allowed herself to really think of rowan at this point because she was torn on her feelings towards him. "This an ambush or something?" she asked wondering what exactly his goal was here. [break][break]

Underneath lapras a large shadow loomed underneath her, her wailord peering up at the pair.

Over the last few weeks he'd slowly been moving his things out of Sootopolis City, a few items at a time so that he didn't provoke suspicion from others. "You look different, did you get your hair done? It looks good." He smirked playfully, hoping to defuse the tension ever so slightly. [break][break]

"I miss you, Mel. I know it's my fault, because of the choices I made, but that doesn't stop me from thinking of you as one of my best friends." A hand reached up to tuck some strands of hair behind his ear, letting the ocean breeze fill the silence for a moment. "Apologizing won't make up for what I did, or how I lied to you, but I wanted to talk to you at least one last time before..." Rowan hesitates, unsure whether or not he should burden her with his defection and the consequences what might come. [break][break]

Melody stares at him, her face betraying how she was feeling inside as she kept her deadpan expression set in stone, unwavering. She waited for him to finish his statement before she replies.[break][break]

She grabs her ponytail and places it over her chest as she ponders her answer. "Yes, I did change it. Since you know, I actually had a say in what it looked like now." she says as her words leak with venom. [break][break]

But...to defect from rocket?...was he full of shit? "Why should I believe you?" she asked as this would have been the second time that Rowan would see this side of her, the ugly side.

Silence lingered in the air for a moment, hesitation at how much of the truth he should divulge. "Gavin Merlino is my brother, Melody. He was the only family that ever actually cared about me. It was hard for me to walk away from that, you know? Still is." Perhaps Gavin would forgive him one day, but for now he was alone once more. "But I'm leaving, no matter the consequences."

Amber eyes were cast down towards his childhood companion, his chest beginning to grow tight as Melody's words sliced through him. "I've been selfish, I'm so sorry." He knelt down and drew the Prinplup into his arms, temporarily shifting his attention away from Melody. Mistral wrapped their flippers around Rowan and squeezed back, seemingly happy that their feelings had been acknowledged finally. "I'm so sorry..." Rowan repeated again before releasing them, wiping both eyes with his sleeve and sniffling his nose clear. [break][break]

"You're right, Mel. I fucked up, in every sense of the phrase." He turned back towards her, fingers gripping the wooden railing so hard that his knuckles turned white. "Nothing I say can undo that, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop trying." A shaky breath escaped his mouth, attempting to center himself. "The Kimono Girl in Ecruteak told me that no one can acquit me of my guilt, not even Suicune. I need to find a way to forgive myself, and this is the start. Leaving Rocket and doing good for the region is how I will begin to heal, and in time I hope others will forgive me as well." Rowan didn't say it explicitly, but Melody would know she was included in that.

The wailord from earlier belonging to melody swirled underneath them, the shadow curving around them as if it was patrolling the situation. Melody had hit the hammer on the head for prinplup as Melody knew exactly now why he had been acting strange. She hadn't given it much thought previously as she wasn't allowed to think of sad things like that. [break][break]

She wanted to believe him, after all he had protected her time and time again from random attacks, she clenches her fist as she once again realizes how difficult it is now to forgive people who wronged her. She had been trying with MATIAS SILPH , but they weren't the same..[break][break]

"So you're still looking for suicune?" she asks as Melody had hoped he'd have heeded her warning about searching for avatarship.. she sighs. The silence thickening between them as Melody's mind became flooded with thoughts on what to say next. She had no idea how he could earn her forgiveness. [break][break]

There was..one way.. "How far are you willing to go to show me you mean it?"

Purity such as Suicune's didn't deserve to be darkened by the criminal organization, how selfish he was to think otherwise before. The absence of the northern wind had concerned him, leading up to the his visit to the Burned Tower, but he'd felt their presence once more in Johto. It wasn't over between the two of them, not by a long shot. [break][break]

An eyebrow arched as Melody posed her question, words positioned as such to arouse suspicion in the former Beast. "What do you mean?" He'd do almost anything to aid the healing of his friend, but there were some lines he wouldn't cross, the very same he'd refused when he was part of Team Rocket.

"Or are you really just trying to get close to me again so that Rocket can sink their claws into me again?" she wonders as Madeleine would go to any lengths to reclaim her little doll. [break][break]

The wailord breaks the water's surface tension and emerges from underneath, moving towards Melody on her Lapras as it asks for her affection and she lowers herself down to pet it. "You are only guessing what suicuine's intentions are Rowan. Monkey paw wishes and...all that jam." she says as she backtracks into her old ways.

"Could say the same about Cobalion, Mel." He struck back, seemingly offended at the idea that Suicune would have ulterior or uncouth motives. "I'm willing to trust that the Pokémon that saved me from Katherine Fairburne's attempt to murder me, has my best interests in mind." Rowan didn't realize this might be the first time she'd heard of such an encounter.

She wasn't that exactly shocked, she knew Katherine was cut-throat. In melody's mind this was an all out war...she herself might have to kill someone one day when they wouldn't stop.. "What made you change your mind? I don't believe you. Team rocket's been doing the same thing they always do...Ruining lives.." [break][break]

The anger in her voice began to rise and Lapras and wailord responded to it, growling at Rowan. "So what you're telling me is. Some magical dog came and saved your life, a girl in a fucking kimono told you that you need to repent, and suddenly you want to switch sides? Rowan?" She clenches her fist, the situation was too hard to think about, she wanted to forget it all. It would've been easier. [break][break]

"I don't know what you want from me. If apparently my forgiveness means so little that you only need to care for your own guilt.." She tried to convince herself of a new truth she lived by. [break][break]

She didn't need anyone.
