There's a pause from Ashley, as he recounts all of those involves to best answer. "Sure. Isaac, for one. You know how well he does. Cygne, his girl. And a few more operatives come to mind, like Gerald and Makoto. Maybe more." His words are like electricity leaving his lips, as he holds Kep tightly, sure not to press palms together.[break][break]

Turning Kepler to him, and letting him place hands to his apron to wipe them there if need be, he looks closely, tilting the chin up to look him in those beautiful emerald eyes.[break][break]

"Gotta ask an admin for permission. Probably gonna ask Jayden Cross." He thinks on it, and nods quietly. "It's a lot. I want to be set for life. Just in case."[break][break]

His gaze looks to the door. With a troubled breath for a moment, he swivels back, hands pressing into their back, as he tries to smile.[break][break]

"Contingencies. And spoiling you makes me happy so-"[break][break]

A small kiss, meant for Kep's nose. He may be worried, but he wasn't going to let that stop him from being a sappy mess. He liked to be that.[break][break]

"Okay. Strawberry time, let's get to it. These are gonna be delicious." Ash pulls them back to the caramelized strawberries at hand, ready to make these strawberries into the best they could. Never once leaving Kepler's side, leaning over him to help.[break][break]

They were almost done.

[attr="class","thadmain"]Having Isaac and Cygne in Ash’s corner did do a lot to assuage him. He sighed, forcing his body to relax. It was going to be okay.

“You’re strong and smart and capable. It is going to be okay.” It was more for himself, but he supposed it was good for Ash to hear it out loud, as well. Nothing sucked more than having someone you loved not believe in you. And he did! He did believe in Ash. He just worried.

He smears sticky red fingertips on Ash’s apron and then ignores it to pull their bodies flush together in a hug.

“Contingencies,” Kepler agrees, though he doesn’t see it the same way as Ash. He’s perfectly happy how they are now… but Kepler is many things, but an idiot is not one of them, and he knows that things never say the same. Change is in the nature of the world. “You spoil me so much already. I’m so lucky. Please don’t put yourself in danger for that.”

Please don’t use me as a reason to endanger yourself, is what he was asking, but he spins back towards the stove as Ash decrees it is time to move to the next stage of cooking. They pull the skewers out of the hot pan and the glaze drips and solidifies in little peaks; they set them on a paper towel and Kepler makes sure to turn off the oven before they leave the stove.

“How long will they take to cool? I want one now,” he says, voice pitching up in a whine as he pops his thumb into his mouth to suck the sugar-sweet syrup off of it.

It doesn't occur to Ashley... how quite possibly toxic his words might be seen as. As he holds Kep there, with a smile, warned not to put himself in danger, it doesn't even fully quantify. Maybe he does understand a little bit, but as the couple continue their confections, Ashley leans over and kisses Kep's cheek once as he turns around.[break][break]

"Well, the cold water for the syrup help to solidify it, so I'd say... couple minutes, actually. So-" as he hands Kep one of the strawberry skewers, and grabs one himself. Beginning the last step, Ash takes a ladle to glaze the concoction onto the strawberries in a way that won't touch his other hand... doing so carefully to coat it all.[break][break]

Once he finishes, a plate to the side is set, now holding his own skewer, as he begins to help with the one Kep has himself.[break][break]

They were almost done. As Ana the Pikachu came over, moving to swipe one of the cut up strawberries, she places it to her lips, and gives off the cutest cry one could imagine, chewing it and moving closer towards the couple. These were her people! As she hops onto Kep's shoulder, and rubs her cheek against his, Ashley finally finishes up his end.[break][break]

"Now... we just wait a couple minutes for it to harden and cool!" And once they were done... BAM. Candied strawberries.

[attr="class","thadmain"]It all seems rather innocent in the span of the moment, the smell of hot sugar in the air, the two of them so ensconced in one another, as they are. But Kepler understands that this peace, this happiness, is a piece of a formula: there are parts that work together, in synch, to create a product. One part was him, but the larger portion-- the more powerful reactant-- was Ash.

Without Ash, Kepler had nothing. And if he lost Ash on some fool’s errand disguised under the intent to-- to spoil Kepler? The blow would be crippling.

But all of that seems so far away now, as he lets his head roll back against Ash, somehow not hindering him in constructing the strawberry skewers even as he stands directly in his way. He holds an arm out to help Ana up, scooping under her little tail and moving to scratch between her ears as he rubs his cheek against her own, grinning at the staticky feeling against his skin.

“Bam,” he confirmed, touching Ash’s wrist to transfer the light zap of static, “candied strawberries.”

Ana cries happily, taken hold by Kepler, and rubbing her cheek against Kep's. And with the conjuration of static electricity, the moment that Kep touches Ashley, he feels the jolt, as he grins in response.[break][break]

"Candied strawberries." He holds the skewer up now, making sure to lean in, and feel the heat from the strawberries. It takes a moment before he leans in, and takes a very crunchy bite of one of he skewered strawberries... and he's grinning.[break][break]

Only to then, press the skewer towards Kep. Loving silver eyes gaze at him, happily so, as he holds it out, to his lips.[break][break]

"Say ah, baby."[break][break]

His heart was beating so hard now. Maybe...[break][break]

Maybe it would be fine to live like this?
