As Kaname dedcided it would be best if he and his veluza cut through some bushes, only for Kaname to catch his foot on something and stumble. He'd knocked a very unhappy hisuian voltorb from its resting spot. "What the heck is tha-" Kaname's thought was cut short as the voltorb has roused itself into a rage for being awoken and began to fire a barrage of Seed Bombs at the pair. "Shit! Nodachi! Slash!" Kaname shouted, running to avoid to being hit by the exploding seeds.

Meanwhile the veluza's pectoral fins took on a preternatural shine and enlarging as it moved over the land, dodging the exploding seeds as she was propelled by her own rage. As the veluza got in close, her body stiffened as she rammed the voltorb, slashing it with her glowing fins. The voltorb relented its assault as the water/psychic type attacked it.
"That's enough!" Kaname called to the veluza, throwing a Safari ball to catch the sufficiently softened up voltorb.

Kaname let out a relieved sigh upon catching the voltorb, however Nodachi remained on high alert. The duo continued through the forest area until they spied a Phanpy, chowing down on a fallen berry. It’s cute… but not really the kind of thing I need for my research or for combat. After a little thought, Kaname and his veluza headed off in a different direction, in search of other Pokémon.

The trees began to clear as Kaname and his veluza reached the edge of the forest and found themselves near a large lake. On the bank lay a tirtouga, basking in the sunlight. Kaname recognized the Pokémon as a fossil Pokémon, a creature he learned about during evolutionary biology classes.

If I recall, tirtouga are believed to be the ancestors of many turtle Pokémon. Such a creature was fascinating, but a relic of the past won’t help me. Kaname had already made up his mind, motioning for the veluza to follow him as he turned and walked back into the forest.

The intrepid duo of Kaname and his veluza made their way back into the forest, unaware of the pokemon watching them from the branches. A singular applin, poked its eyes out from the protective fruit shell as it watched. Without warning or cry, the applin withdrew into its shell and used rollout, launching itself at the pair from on high. It was unexpected as it slammed head on into Nodachi, causing the veluza to let out a sharp cry. "What the hell!" Kaname shouted, as the applin landed nearby and let out a victorious cry. "You- Nodachi, use aqua jet and get this thing outta here!". Kaname's veluza gathered water around herself and launched itself at the Applin, striking it with such force that it went flying.

As Kaname strode through the woods, his veluza brushed against his hand and changed direction. "Hm? What is it?" Kaname asked as his pokemon shot ahead of him, enticing him to follow. The jettison pokemon moved quickly through the woods, on the trail of some scent it had caught and Kaname struggled to keep pace. "Where are you going!" He shouted, but it soon became clear as his veluza was now chasing a galarian ponyta. The water/psychic type used Fillet Away, shedding pieces of her flesh to increase her speed and gain ground on the unique horn pokemon. Kaname's veluza, having closed the distance thanks to shedding her flesh, used Night Slash on the galarian ponyta several times, knocking it to the ground and weakening it.

Kaname panted, having joined the scene as the veluza was primed to take a bite out of the ponyta. "Enough! Leave it alone!" He barked at the fish pokemon, causing it to back off as he threw a safari ball at the wounded ponyta.

A galarian ponyta, captured. The Unique Horn Pokémon would be a useful addition to Kaname’s collection of Pokémon to study, especially given the unique properties of its horn. He walked over and picked up the Safari ball and stared at it, if he’d been just a few seconds slower… it would’ve been a bloodbath.

Kaname looked over at his veluza, missing large sections of flesh that usually hid the majority of the Jettison Pokemon’s knife-like spines. The creature had a wild, predatory look in her eye. “I guess no matter how hard we try and train it out of them, they’ll always be some level of predator or prey.” He murmured to himself as he recalled his veluza to her pokeball and in her place, he called forth his galarian slowking, Ether. The slowking looked at him knowingly and gestured for Kaname to walk with him.

It was a quiet walk, the two of them making their way toward the exit when a small rosy shape doddled into view. It was a fuecoco, one whose scales weren’t the normal shade. That could only mean one thing, a shiny. “How exciting… I’ve got to catch this specimen.” Kaname pointed at the fuecoco, who only now noticed them. “Hit it with an Eerie Spell and then Disable to stun it!” Kaname commanded and Ether complied, putting his hands together and chanting loudly, conjuring waves of psychic power with Eerie Spell to buffet the fuecoco before stunning it with Disable.

“Last chance…” Kaname murmured, throwing the safari ball at the stunned fuecoco in an attempt to capture it.
