ALL! To not go for some, to go for ALL. To carry enough fish to capsize your boat. To smoke until the cigarettes run out. Josh Devlin

Shalin could find the usually work-shy Milo on the outskirts of town. A head of silver hair that the wind tousled, three rings on each hand. His eyes were such a deep blue that they had a purple hue under the right lighting.

He was en route to a clothing store that shuttered its doors in this part of town, to salvage a piece for resale. His black chelsea boots left a weirdly quiet footstep, but he could be seen from a mile away with that hair. It didn't help that the full moon wasn't obscured by clouds.

While he heard rustling from the alley nearby, he stopped and watched her walking down the street.

“...Are you one of those people who runs late at night?”

What a disappointing evening for Shalin. The one time she was able to carve out time to go to Slateport's Round One Arcade, and the place was closed for maintenance. She was planning on spending a few days in Slateport to prepare for a tournament. Perhaps that was why the arcade was closed; they needed to get the pads in top shape for competition play. It was too early to go to bed, too. While she wasn't one for night life, she didn't have much better to do.

Seated on Serena, her Persian that was quite large for her species, Shalin wandered away from the arcade when she heard a young man's voice calling out to her. She reined the cream-colored cat toward him and waved. "Not usually. Just bummed the arcade's closed. There's supposed to be a big SSR tournament this weekend and I wanted to practice for it."

Milo was a little let down. He was fully expecting an ice-chewing psycho jogging in the wee hours of the morning, to scare them back home. All the while, Shalin looked quite clean-cut.

The two were charged by both a Stoutland and a Jumpluff. It'd sell on the black market, surely. Don't go for some, go for ALL. Jumpluff prepared a Bounce, all the while Zweilous got worked up. When it was struck, Zweilous retaliated with Assurance. Milo threw a ball at the stunned Jumpluff, and smiled at Shalin.

“...Huh. What kinda games do you play? I'm... liable to throw away two rolls of coins on a pinball table.”

Before Shalin sound answer, the loud bark of a Stoutland startled Serena and got her agitated. She reared and kicked sharply, bucking Shalin off with the peak of her force right where her trainer was sitting. By the time she came to, the large canine had TAKEN DOWN her Persian, the normal-type desperately fighting back with FURY SWIPES. The green-ette got back to her feet and hurled an empty Poké Ball at the Stoutland, first to capture, and second to free her Persian so she could withdraw her.

"Whew!" she breathed a sigh of relief, sending out a quite-large shiny Vaporeon that was also outfitted with riding gear. The water-type crouched to let Shalin aboard, the girl straddling her and letting her Pokémon lift her into the saddle from standing up. "I play lots of music games. You seen Step Step Revolution? It's a music game you play with your feet. Right, I'm Shalin! I'm the wildest Pokémon rider this side of Hoenn! And this is Rielle," she introduced herself and her water-type mount, which she gave a gentle pat on the head.

Milo smiled. There was an earnestness to her. When the dust settled, she was beset upon again. By the time he even thought about helping, his eyes widening, she took care of it. Matter of fact, he had his back turned. A stray Shroodle used Knock Off, sending the pokeball he held in his hand to the ground, and him with it. Zweilous sprung into action, using Dragon Breath again.

With Shroodle stunned, Milo regained his composure and whipped the ball between its eyes.

“...So. You do riding. Are you in that circuit run by Josh, in Mauville? I was a little... late to enter the cup, but I have to stay in shape. I owe him my life, and he owes me a rematch.”

Milo then withdrew Zweilous, calling forth his Liepard. He smiled, gesturing to its bare fur. The large cat's tail swished, as it started to lick the large bruise on the back of his hand.

"The little harness at home is for her. But I don't care either way. If I had a Hydreigon, I'd be on there bare. My own safety isn't a concern for me."

It seemed the stranger knew Josh, and the Mauville Leader had saved the man's life a while ago. "Oh, you know him? We're pretty good friends!" Shalin chirped back. "I'm not actually as interested in racing Pokémon as he is. I've done it for fun, but I'm not hardcore into it like he is. I'm more into seeing the world. Going to the most remote places in Hoenn to discover what's there!"

The Liepard Milo sent out was impressive! It was enormous for its species, easily big enough to carry even a somewhat tall and pudgy human. "Wow," Shalin's jaw dropped a little as she heard the man confidently state he was willing to ride a Hydreigon bareback. "And people call me crazy." With that, she sent out two more of her Pokémon: a pair of Ninetales. One was fire-type, one was ice-type. "These two are Caprice and Letheia," she introduced the two riding-geared foxes, both of which were a little wary of Milo. "You might have a hard time believing this, but I caught both of these Pokémon by riding on their backs while they were still wild!"

Shalin covered her face briefly. "Oh, I forgot to ask you! What's your name?" Before she could get an answer, a wild Arbok, and an enormous one at that, hissed at Letheia. Expecting a poison-type assault, the Vaporeon's rider ordered a CONFUSE RAY from her Alolan Ninetales, the strobe light blinding the snake and making it delirious. While it no longer had its senses, Shalin flung a Poké Ball at it. It was going to be close whether or not she could ride the giant snake. If her catch was successful, she would find out soon!

Milo nodded, before choosing to... elaborate. He'd withhold information, sure. But she'd get the gist. He smirked, leaning on the brick wall with an elbow propped out, like the kickstand on a bike.

“...He and I go way back. I... fell in with a bad crowd when I was younger. He was there to show me another path, after my music career fizzled out.”

Milo cackled at her response to his boast. They doubled over, before straightening his back and fanning out his hair with an outstretched hand. They then flinched at the idea of catching pokemon by just tackling them, rodeo-style.

“...You gotta be joking. That's... wow. Well... I'm not gonna be outdone that easily.”

Liepard curled up, sitting and watching. While Beedrill kept an eye on Shalin's battle, Milo snuck up and leapt, swinging a pokeball at its side in his hand. He then landed on his feet, then tripped and swung down on his upper back. Mere luck kept him from a head injury.

It seemed Milo was one of Josh's friends, too. He seemed nice enough, if a bit daring. Daring was good in her eyes, though! While distracted by her conversation with Milo, a wild Muk oozed toward Shalin and the Vaporeon. The girl's water-type mount snapped her long tail toward the filthy Pokémon. While the recoil didn't force her off, Shalin slid down from the shiny Vaporeon's back to stay out of a battle with a foe that could easily drag her off her Pokémon. An ICE BEAM in front of it was enough to make the Pokémon turn tail.

"Wow, usually you don't see Beedrill this far east," Shalin remarked. "Especially not ones that large! I'll have to show you how to ride on a Beedrill sometime. I have one of my own that's about the size of yours!"

What bravery. Not even Shalin would dare to try climbing onto a Beedrill wild. She knew how deafening it was sitting so close to their wings, which is part of why she carried two sets of earplugs with her everywhere she went. "You've got some talent, Milo! Makes me wonder if you'd outlast me on one of the Ninetales I caught that way!" She was goading Milo into a contest of strength and skill. While Caprice didn't look thrilled about a guest riding her, the Kantonian Ninetales wouldn't back down from a challenge.

Milo smiled. The constant stream of pokemon stunned him. It had no right to at this point, but he was a city boy, who came here just with a kitten in his arms.

“We're a little spoiled here. I don't think I've seen half of these back in Unova. Have you lived here for a while?”

Milo nodded at Shalin and grinned. He then... had to sit for a second. Just cross-legged on the ground. He'd already fallen on his back, and he needed a breather. He glanced up at her, undeterred otherwise.

“...I wouldn't back down from a challenge of any kind, really.”

All the while Liepard and Stunky traded blows. The two circled eachother, almost like a dust-cloud with limbs poking out in a cartoon. Milo didn't bother watching, instead choosing to play with his bead necklace for a second.

"A little less than a year, but I've been to Hoenn a few times," Shalin answered. Some of her favorite Pokémon had been caught during her first trip to the beautiful, biodiverse region. "I've only been to Unova once. It's a lot different than Hoenn. A lot more... urban."

Shalin's smile turned into a grin as Milo accepted. Both of them appeared to be Former Alphas with how large they were, and sported the muscle of one to boot. With a little reluctance yet fire in her eyes, the fire fox trotted toward Milo and crouched, letting the street racer hop on. "They've both got deep bags of tricks, so you better hold on with everything you've got!" she half-teased Milo. Once they were both ready for the chaos to come, the two Ninetales would thrash in sync with one another, not with power, but with finesse. While having saddles on them made holding on easier than when she rode them wild, it still wouldn't be easy! Both made sharp about-faces as part of the first real measure to wrench their riders off.
