the blizzard that was olivia’s raw opinion descended upon fernando, even the harsh words she had spoken earlier were nothing compared to the hailstorm that was to fall upon the man before her. she tapped her cane, the same one bearing the badge of her gym against the desk with a thundering clank - the noise as loud as olivia would allow herself to get. “i did not come to hoenn maimed or crippled, silph. i came here to show respect and honor the great people and places that this land has to offer and have fought hard and true against rocket since the very moment my toes touched the sandy shores.” olivia berated, her voice an avalanche of subtle rage as her pale knuckles tightened around the pommel of her cane.
“i have battled and proven myself more than needed, and sacrificed more than asked. i have gym trainers and those that believe in me because of my steadfast loyalty to my city and my people; and i will not have their or my own sacrifices diminished or disrespected by a man who knows nothing of me.”
“i may not know of the petty politics of the hoenn league, true enough, but i do know the state of hoenn: one of turmoil. one in need of aide. aide it shall receive, and yes, silph, it will come through means of knowledge and respect; for if we cast aside those base standards of what the league stands for we are no better than rocket.” eyes of icy blue crashed upon fernando as she looked him over.
olivia continued, “and i promise you this from the depths of the great basin to the sun high above: sootopolis will never fall so long as i have breath in my body. you know naught of the bonds of myself nor those i seek to strengthen to prevent an onslaught like slateport.”
olivia paused as he produced the badge of cait alfric. the supposed infamous gym leader he spoke of earlier, olivia could only assume. he dared to compare herself to a stranger, not yet knowing what all her battles entailed, not having faced her on the field? she scoffed, it was obvious and not at all withheld. “i am well aware of my duties. i deny no challenger, councilman, and have battles set up even now. yes, i reward those who dare to bare the mantle of champion with the knowledge and know how of their home. of their culture. of their people. for as i said before and i must surely will not have to say again: knowledge is power. i test the strategy and intellect of those who come to me for i will not see a fool bearing the badge of lore. the badge of knowledge.”
olivia rummaged through a pocket and produced her own badge. it bore the colors of her house in a great crashing wave and tossed it before her, the metal clinking as it settled on the surface. “a ten year old boy or thirty year old man may come before me and challenge me; yet, it is of my own decision whether they are worthy of my badge. whether they have the know how to beat me in battle, yes, but also the humility to learn from their own mistakes - should they fail or succeed.”
she glared frozen daggers at the man as she added cooly, “you will be the first to know of a trainer who knows naught the history of their home, or the willingness to protect their own people, or the ability to best a woman maimed doing her duty to the people she has sworn to protect.”
this man was testing unknown waters and those who don’t learn to swim, sink.
