[break][break] the voice of the evergrande captain breaks through as he and his wyrdeer gallop powerfully through the space, the pink smog wrapping around their ankles. behind him, several leaguers fight in mini-skirmishes behind them, but ollie's gaze is focused on the rocket and the tyrannitar that's blocked the space before them.

[break][break] leaping off the back of his dragonite, he huffs:

[break][break] "are you sure you wanna do this?"

[break][break] emerald eyes gleam meaningfully across the room.

[break][break] "they could die in there, you know."

[break][break] he's stalling - he knows he is - until he can figure out what to do.

the fuck. was. that.

[break][break] green eyes widen as midnight crystals brew in the space above them, an unknown attack brewing forth. whatever it is, ollie knows immediately he needs to get the fuck out of the way.

[break][break] "saffron!" he calls sharp, and his pidgeot flies underneath him and sweeping him off his feet just in time for the tyrannitar to crush stone from where ollie was previously standing.

[break][break] "jellybean, protect us!"

[break][break] a TAILWIND stirs up beneath his pidgeot, as it zooms away from the storm that has already begun to brew around them. dark black crystals cling to ollie's coat, midnight powder crumbling against the fabric. it unsettles him, probably even more than the pink mist leaking out of the cavern's walls. his togekiss throws up a SAFEGUARD in the same moment that his pidgeot attempts to circleback and cut the tyrannitar with a STEEL WING.

a shadowy miasma lashes out right in front of the ranger's eyes, a startled sound leaping out of his lips. 'what?' it was something straight out of a movie. crystals forming in thin air, utter blackness spreading in clouds as if the air in front of them were being sucked into the ground.

[break][break] SCHWING!

[break][break] he winces as he braces for impact as the tyranitar BRUTAL SWINGS his way forward, clashing against his pidgeot's STEEL WING.

[break][break] the brunt of the attack has him thrown backwards, and ollie sucks in his breath as they go barreling backwards into the sheetrock behind him. fingers clutch in his pidgeot's feathers, eyes gleaming bright admist the smoke.

[break][break] "we're not giving up just yet! jellybean, go!"

[break][break] the togekiss lets out a sharp trill before summoning a DRAINING KISS towards the tyrannitar. meanwhile, his pidgeot flaps it's wings wildly, in an attempt to DEFOG the area.

[break][break] not knowing, of course, that it would be useless.

[attr="class","littleollie"] the DEFOG doesn't work. his eyes widen as he makes the realization that there's nothing that can be done against his opponent's weird sandstorm.

[break][break] "watch out, jellybean!"

[break][break] the ranger's cry comes a second too late, and he watches as the togekiss pivots to the side. the STONE EDGE pierces her wing with a painful cry.

[break][break] horror flickers in his emerald gaze as he hesitates to run to her. he knows that if he did, he would easily be slammed down.

[break][break] he has to distract them somehow.

[break][break] "saffron, attack!"

[break][break] with a cry, the hawk zooms down with a STEEL WING towards the tyrannitar's back.

[break][break] through the storm, ollie shouts, "who are you? are you a monster?"

[attr="class","littleollie"] how many situations had ollie been in since he'd arrived to hoenn that people were asking him why he didn't know something, rather than just saying it. it frustrated him endlessly, even though he knew that there was little he could do about it. he hadn't just left PENELOPE LIVY, after all; he'd left hoenn.

[break][break] "who are you -" he shouts, before his voice is cut off.

[break][break] emerald eyes widen into saucers at the sight of - what the fuck was that.

[break][break] something from fairytales, no nightmares. whatever it was, ollie didn't have time to catch himself up to speed.

[break][break] his ranger band glows bright yellow as his pidgeot MEGA-EVOLVES at the face of such immense power. the viscious tornado rips ollie off his feet, throwing both him and his pokemon against rocks. saffron lashes out with a belated PROTECT but the damage was already done.

[break][break] meanwhile, jellybean releases a LIFEDEW on her trainer's injuries as ollie releases another pokemon to the battlefield. his lanturn is released as EERIE IMPULSE crashes through the space in the shape of vibrating rings. like dropping a stone in the middle of a pond, it ripples outwards.

[attr="class","littleollie"] the siren's song rings hollow in ollie's chest. under different circumstances, ollie knows he would've been enthused to meet a pokemon so magnificent. he thinks about his route with Raziel Beckett, and why he signed up for the rangers in the first place. pokemon were cool.

[break][break] except when they were trying to kill him.

[break][break] "why don't you enlighten me then, rather than just attacking me!" he shouted as the frost blasts towards him. his togekiss aims to protect him with a shimmer of SAFEGUARD, as she takes the damage for him. ice crystals cling to her wings as ollie stands up back to his feet. he returns saffron under the frosty ice, releasing instead raspberry who's COLOR CHANGE immediately changes her typing to ICE. immediately, her body glows in an attempt to DISABLE the attack.

[break][break] citrus lets out her own wail, as electricity gathers in her antannae and shoots out an ELECTROBALL towards the glaceon.

[break][break] really, ollie had nothing against rockets. at least not personally. he knew that there were bad ones, and there were good ones out there, the same way that there was good and bad leaguers.

[break][break] but his eyes widen at the sight of his kecleon being choked to death; ice freezes in his veins, rooting him to the spot.

[break][break] "raspberry - !"

[break][break] he fumbles for his pokeball but it's too late. an ELECTROBALL crashes against the whirlpool, causing a scream of agony to be released from the kecleon. it only stops when the acidic smell of burning flesh hits the air.

[break][break] ollie stumbles backwards, throwing down a SCATTERBANG.

[break][break] saffron is quick on the uptake with a TAILWIND, sweeping his trainer off his feet again. before they leave, his eyes are glassy as they look towards Cillian Quinn.

[break][break] "you are a monster."
