Amidst the chaos of unfolding battles, Gavin hones in on the region's top Champion.[break][break]

He would offer no warning. Nobility was a trait of lesser men. With a soft click of his tongue lost amidst the cries of people and Pokemon alike, he directs his aerial support with a flick of the wrist.[break][break]

A brilliant HYPER BEAM of white-hot energy sears across the field.[break][break]

Gavin feels the heat of it on his skin.[break][break]

Shedding its feathers through the use of AERIAL AUTOTOMIZE, the shadowed Corviknight would follow up on the Aerodactyl's assault by darting in with EXTREME SPEED. Both attacks seek not the Champion's Pokemon but the man himself, the Corviknight's vicious talons ripe to rend flesh from bone.

to find the righteous Melody Miro or the battle hungry MATIAS SILPH was a feat of its own. a battlefield is their playground, and he could bet that they were looking for enemies to fight with each passing second.

his mightyena attempts to trace their scent. too pre-occupied with its business, it doesn't sense the looming threat until it was too late.

he yelps at the ring of the beam of energy coming close. it manages to erect a protect against it at the last moment, paws skidding backwards as it digs through the soil, bracing itself against the impact.

the corviknight's attack hammers in the nail driven by the aerodactyl's move. it swoops in on the trainer, forcing the pokemon to jump in the way with the brittle barrier of its move, shattering easily against its force.

the champion gets thrown off the ground along with his pokemon, rolling through the dirt as he recovers with a final roll. a pokeball quickly recalls the pokemon as he faces two assailants.

eyes stare down his opponent before a pokemon forces itself out of its containment. the smile returns, with a strange sense of ease washing over him. a second one gets called out as the first one already started flame charging.

"smack down."

a finger gun points the target for the terrakion as a rock is hurled at the steel avian. bang!

What would have been a deadly assault is stymied by the efforts of a loyal mutt, its PROTECTIVE barrier shattering beneath the might of his Corviknight's blow. Disappointing.[break][break]

As expected, Lopez is quick to respond. They hadn't crowned the man top Champion for nothing.[break][break]

Surprisingly, Gavin recognizes the hulking brute that SMACKS DOWN his bird — it had appeared on the battlefield of Mt. Pyre during their attempts to extract a Yamask from the graveyard's depths. He had no name to call it, only a notion of power.[break][break]

The Silvally is recognized, too. Corviknight shrieks in pain and rage as the FLAME CHARGE melts steel feathers.[break][break]

Gavin frowns. His shadow Pokémon were sturdy, strong, but the bird struggles beneath the weight of these two attacks alone. As it was trained to do, it does not allow itself to succumb to unconsciousness. It would fight until death.[break][break]

He couldn't afford to lose one of his most treasured soldiers; the Corviknight vanishes in a swirl of shadow as it's recalled.[break][break]

Untouched by their foe, the DARK PREDATOR that was his Aerodactyl hones in on the Silvally. While most Pokémon would require a period of recovery from such a violent attack as its HYPER BEAM, the prehistoric predator pushes through its pain and fires another HYPER BEAM toward the chimera.

though he issues another move, he finds his terrakion succumbing to the unnerving aura of the aerodactyl. putting two and two together causes kyle to scratch his chin at the revelation.

"er, do what you can."

he can only conclude it's a shadow pokemon with his silvally's reaction in addition to unusual effects from an aerodactyl. without knowing what restrictions in places on his pokemon, he can only give him autonomy and pray for the best.

it erects a stone edge in between the silvally and its target, acting as a barrier between it and the attack, only to be turn into dust by the attack. it pierces through the rock, though the silvally's computer-like insight has already taken it into consideration.

it takes the most minimal movement to move away from the precise strike form the aerodactyl, causing a direct hit into a graze.

the beam scorches the silvally's side, enabling it to move by taking the hit in an unnecessary part of its body. it climbs on the tip of the earlier stone edge as it crumbles, and in one swift step, uses it as a platform to pounce on the aerodactyl.

while the distance is closed, melee was out of the question. as it attempts to reach from the air, a tri-attack forms on its beak, fire striking its target in front of it first, ice and then lightning.

Relief from the failed follow-up SMACK DOWN is short-lived as the legendary instead erects a stony barrier to take the brunt of the attack. The purple-black beam of shadow sears straight through the rock, however... but this too is only a small victory, for the speedy Silvally takes only the bare edge of the attack as it leaps clear.[break][break]

A useful creature. Annoying, too.[break][break]

The remnants of scattered stones are utilized as a launch pad for the chimera's attack, but the Aerodactyl utilizes its AGILITY in combination with the boosts from Gavin's SHADOW MIASMA to wing clear of the attack.[break][break]

Unfortunately, that negated any hopes to counter-attack.[break][break]

The PRESSURE in the air begins to grow stronger with Gavin's desperation. He reaches for another ball.[break][break]

The Lucario that appears at his side is not shadowed like the rest, absent of the black crystals that adorn the Aerodactyl's wings. But it is no less vicious. Forged in the fires of the Kanto war, the Lucario needs no instruction. An AURA SPHERE builds between its paws, launched toward the greater threat. Not the legend, surprisingly, but the chimera whose attacks seemed so devastating to Gavin's shadowy allies.

calculations running through the silvally's head did not take a newcomer into account, or rather, the variables remained with vague values for it. compared to the shadow pokemon, it couldn't manage to predict its moves as accurately.

aura sphere hits cleanly as the silvally lands on the ground, though its focus doesn't shift from the aerodactyl. it makes an adjustment, firing off air slashes to stave off the miasma alongside keeping the pressure up.

the terrakion comes in on the silvally's defense, having lost a sense of self-preservation in favor of the hunt.

any attempt to free fire its moves is dealt by the pokemon. a quick attack brings it up the lucario's face, charging towards with its horns ahead of it in blinding speed.

Though Gavin's SHADOW MIASMA closes ranks as quickly as the AIR SLASHES can pierce through its veil, lightning does not strike twice when it comes to the Aerodactyl's luck. As it steadies itself in mid-air with the hopes of firing off another beam, compressed air slashes at its wings and unbalances its flight. The HYPER BEAM fires wide, scorching stone.[break][break]

Gavin's concern grows with the mounting PRESSURE. His shadows have never seemed so fragile.[break][break]

Faolan meets the legend's challenge without hesitation, thrown by Terrakion's horns only to land skidding on his paws and spring back into action with a FLASH CANNON.[break][break]

The air grows thick and smells of rain, the first drops settling on skin and soot-scathed ground. Lugia had been further away than Gavin had hoped, but he embraces the comforting scent of the storm as a sign that she is almost with him.

the rain of smell gets noticed, but kyle pays no attention to it, owing it to the fluctuating nature of the rift and the ultra deep sea's inherent aquatic nature.

his attention was on the fight instead. an opening shows itself, signaled by the aerodactyl's wavering poise and general positioning of the pokemon in the fight.

"try now!" he tells the terrakion.

another smack down is fired at the aerodactyl while its attention was away from it before getting blasted by the flash cannon, skidding across the ground soon after its move.

the silvally anticipates the move and hones in with its talons with a multi-attack. whether it dodges the smack down or not, the only way to go in an enclosed space such as a cave is down, where the chimera awaits.

A fierce gale floods the cavern in which their battle is staged, strong enough to almost unbalance even Gavin. He plants his feet, instead, and clicks his tongue twice to instruct his Lucario to intercept the SMACK DOWN with its EXTREME SPEED, taking the hit with a growl.[break][break]

The Silvally, however, is an ever-present threat.[break][break]

Cracks have formed in the prehistoric predator's wings, the strong winds further accentuating its weakness as it struggles to keep steady. That it hasn't fainted is only a testament to Gavin's relentless method of training; his Pokémon would die before they gave in. Would die, if the Silvally struck it again.[break][break]

The Aerodactyl was one of his favourites, a fantastic tracker on account of its unique ability. Yet if the Silvally lost its target, it would likely turn on Gavin instead.[break][break]

Or on Lugia, who swims through the air with as much grace as the ocean, a flap of her large purple wings catching her in mid-air and sending another burst of wind to assail them. The wind spreads Gavin's SHADOW MIASMA across the battlefield, and it curls around the Silvally with strange intent. It was something he'd only seen with Shadow Pokémon. Is it...?[break][break]

There was only one way to find out.[break][break]

"I'm sorry," he whispers to the capsule he tucks against his palm, sending a SHADOW MILTANK far afield, behind the Champion and his team. Away from Gavin, whose patron swoops down in readiness to meet him. This was not a fight they could win, but perhaps he could buy them some time to RETREAT.[break][break]

He gestures toward the Miltank, sharp, and issues a command to the Silvally.[break][break]

"Kill."[break][break]

Shadows swallow the Aerodactyl as it's recalled, a Dhelmise sent out to PHANTOM FORCE Gavin and his Lucario onto the Lugia's back.

the target turns tail and retreats. kyle clicks his tongue, though it doesn't register to him that the other party was retreating, owing to the fact that they struck first, unprompted.

"robin, take chase!"

without the need of the terrakion's support, it quickly recalls the sword of justice in favor of a smeargle. with the sygna suit deactivated after the first strike in lieu of assurance, an order is quickly issued.

"zane!"

the smeargle knows what the shout is for. energy envelops it as it performs its z-move: never ending nightmare.

as ghostly hands chase after the assailant and the pokemon they recalled with them, kyle is surprised that no backup came from his pokemon. what was normally bloodthirsty turns to another target. "huh?"

talons came into contact with the miltank, who he thinks was left as a scapegoat after noticing the silvally's behavior. a vicious multi-attack strikes it, bloodlust amped up by the adrenaline it has from its previous fighting.

Ghastly hands grasp for them, aiming to slow their retreat. Gavin's Dhelmise wraps its SHADOW HOLD around them, ensuring they won't be pulled from Lugia's back... but it does not stop the pain. It feels like being submerged in ice water, like something is attempting to reach into his physical body and tear out his soul. Claws against his psyche, weakening his will.[break][break]

"Fuck." Gavin gasps, shuddering.[break][break]

Taking inspiration from his foe, Gavin curls his hand around a Z-CRYSTAL, sharp edges cutting into his palm as he squeezes it until it shatters beneath the force, unleashing Z-energy onto the field.[break][break]

It's his first time attempting this. He's not even sure that it'll work, but desperate times called for desperate measures. As his hand drips blood, adrenaline numbing him to further pain, he calls out over the storm.[break][break]

"Lugia!"[break][break]

Recognizes his intention, the shadowed Guardian of the Sea allows the energy to envelop her beating wings, stirring up the gales of a HURRICANE that, with the flood of energy, becomes a SUPERSONIC SKYSTRIKE.[break][break]

A boost of speed the likes of which she'd never displayed before sends them streaking through the skies like an arrow, away from their foe. As they gained distance from the Silvally and the SHADOW MIASMA fades, its supernatural hold over the chimera would also... but far too late for the Miltank, whose MILK DRINK could not overpower the efforts of the Beast Killer.[break][break]

MYSTERIOUS ORE creates a barrier of fleshy rock behind them, skin stretching across gaps.

having a shadow pokemon use z-move through the use of a z-crystal was something kyle hasn't considered before. his surprise was cut short, however, when he ends up receiving the end of it.

the sheer power of the shadow pokemon's z-move ends up blowing them back. his smeargle ends up taking the brunt of the hit though, with its tiny body unable to resist the barrage of strong winds.

"shit, no!"

he tries to activate his sygna suit, but having disabled it in lieu of a z-move ends up to be his undoing. his heart rate increases as he watches its battered body get blown near his silvally.

unbeknown to him, his perspective of the match shifts when he had deactivated his suit. paranoia increases as he watches his target get away. he tries gets negative feelings out on his silvally.

"what have you been-?!"

on its feet lies the umoving body of the pokemon the underboss has sent as a decoy. his heart softens for a moment, regretting a decision he's about to make already.

he clicks his tongue as he recalls his silvally and starts to force his avatar power to come online. with two patients this time, a trickle of blood flows from his nose as it compounds with the harsh effects of ultra deep sea.

kyle can revive others and pokemon from death, and he himself from death (consult staff).
