Peeking over the horizon, the sun, bright and burning orange, was still in the process of crawling back to it's throne in the sky, all while the world fought to find movement. For hours, Penelope and her men had remained stationed out from the granite cave's entrance.

kyle lopez, Melody Miro, and MATIAS SILPH were all still inside the rift, enabled and protected by their sygna suits. The councilwoman now wore the means of joining their ranks in that regard, but given this being her test trial, Penelope had opted for what felt safe. Easy.

Only, it would never be that way, would it?

"Rockets, incoming!"

Her voice was a harsh crack of a whip. It was thunder, strong and without remorse. Realization was muffled by sudden need to retain control - there was little time to hesitate, even less to allow memories to twist her actions.

The League's arsenal of men were quick to approach the councilwoman's sides. Each one held their own set of pokeballs, their own set of motivations, and their own set of anger set against the organization.

"You know I can't do that," she growled, hand hovering around her tactical belt. For all the confidence she attempted to twist into a weapon, fear rattled her body. it felt suffocating, like fingers shoved down her throat. "Stand down and turn yourself in. This is your first and final warning."

A Mr Rime is released.

Penelope looked to release another, but with the boar's sudden charge toward her, there was little time for such luxuries.

"Hold him back with Psychic," she screeched, going for a dodge as her ice type looked to use its psychic connection to inhibit movement. A pink wave of energy encased him, its powers tightening like a snake of rope. It squeezed him with vigor.

At that time, Penelope struggled to return to her feet. More than the bite of dust, memories had shifted themselves into chains, weighing down her movements.

Xerneas.

Littleroot.
[break][break]

How long has it been since those names filter through her thoughts?

Mr rime is forced back, the CLOSE COMBAT ripping into his newly sewn suit and tie.

The boulder was out to finish the job, but before it could make its descent toward the frail ice type, ALLY SWITCH had been pushed into effect. In his place was now Penelope's second Pokemon: Blaziken.

"Tear through the boulder," she shouted from across the field, "use SHADOW CLAW."
[break][break]

With ghastly claws, the boulder erupted into an explosion of shattered pieces, each one flying through in a new direction. Some pierced the Fire-type's skin, others Penelope's, but most managed to seek shelter back on the ground.

"It's only a matter of time until you're caught, bryan delarosa ."
[break][break]

Despite the declaration heavy in her voice, unease swept her system.

Once upon a time, these words held all the importance of the world. And now? Isolation and powered filled her mind.

DETECT grants the fire fighter enough time to barely dodge the incoming sling of the beast's poison barb. Its hindsight, combined with the avid SPEED BOOST and his JOLLY nature, allowed the Blaziken to kick into the air, barreling around to the other side of the field.

During that time, briar thorns sought to transform their terrain into a fixed arena. All exits had been cleared.

Penelope gritted her teeth. Frustrations rippled beneath her skin as she watched the God of Life itself take it's place along the field. It's allegiance felt like another slap to the face, no lighter than the first time she'd seen it. Before, when they met, Penelope had reprimanded what was meant to be a protector of the living for choosing such a destructive force to bond with. This time, however, guilt forced her lips close. She understood things a bit better.

SLEEPING POWDER made it's way to the Mr. Rime, but not before he looked to match it MIMIC. If he were to face the grasp of slumber, so would the Liligant.

If MATIAS SILPH were here, she would never hear the end of such an obvious fuck up. Fangs bared and tightened, the woman watched as SLEEP POWDER fully lulled her Mr Rime to a world of twinkling stars and dark midnight blue skies. Then a blade of whetted grass slashed across his chest.

He fell to the ground, crippled by the attack.
[break][break]
"Wake up," she tried shouting at him, but the ice type would only rustle in his state of dreaming. It was futile. "C'mon, Mr Rime!"

Blaziken was dealing with his own set of worries. Even with the additional SPEED BOOST coursing through his veins, the terrain had made evasion difficult, especially given the legendary's control over its barbed fencing. The MOONBLAST struck, but not until the sygna stone glimmered, turning what was once a JOLLY nature to one of sheer BOLDNESS.

In the heat of the moment, his legs dug into the piling sand, kicking up a wave of SCORCHING SAND toward the Liligant.

Sacrifices needed to be made for victory to be secured.

Mr Rime easily succumbs to the brutish grasp of Xerneas' PSYCHIC energy. Without means to fight, the sleeping ice type only stirred in his sleep, murmuring innocent nothings to himself.

All the while, Blaziken was directed to use this moment of vulnerability to its fullest extent. SPEED BOOST activated for the last time, maxing out his already overwhelming level of speed, and sending him flying across the self-created battlefield. During this time, Penelope deactivated the powers of her SYGNA SUIT, opting for the glimmering promise of the megastone latched around her neck.

Flames erupted and consumed the fighting type, forcing it into a transformation unlike anything else. MEGA BLAZIKEN was born and he charged forward into a FLARE BLITZ, aiming both Bryan and his Liligant.

Survival, which was once a promise, had fallen to the status of a question. There was no guarantee securing her safety or return - as the beast promised, a slow and painful death was awaiting the other end of this long, arduous battle. That is unless she was willing to face the rising challenge.

Sucking in her teeth, Penelope hastily glanced back at Blaziken. At this distance, there was no evading the incoming surge of power that was aimed at his cheek. Even if his speed outweighed the others.

But maybe...

Just as hope vanished from sight, a stir could be spotted from her peripheral vision. Mr Rime - he was waking from his deepened slumber. Battered and bruised, the ice type committed to one last act. One last hoorah.

ALLY SWITCH erupted in a flash of light. In its sweeping gravitas, the two Pokemon swapped places, forcing the full weight of the demon's ALL OUT to engage with Mr Rime. The Pokemon fainted.

"Blaziken - Xerneas!"
[break][break]
It is through this opportunity Penelope's ace sought two goals: one, to use its sudden proximity to the legendary as an opportunity to lock down a solid FLARE BLITZ, and two, to scorch a path out from the arena it had created.
