berry the houndour sniffs around francie's feet, walking in near circles until finally she gets a fix on a scent and barks. lincoln and lyonel, her midday and midnight lycanrocs, follow halle, who begins to barrel off down the maze of the cave passageway francie and greyson find themselves in.[break][break]

"you helped me with a corviknight transportation mission once, y'know."[break][break]

the comment might have seemed offhand, but she's been thinking about it since they were technically stationed together to find a safe passage through the cave.[break][break]

the fact that he politely said he didn't remember makes her sweat a little. did she confuse him with somebody else? she was real good at that...[break][break]

luckily, he brings up something she does remember. and something she'd rather not remember while entering a dream inducing pocket of caverns.[break][break]

"oh yeah! i was working for back then, alongside . great times, i did a lot of different ranger missions back then."[break][break]

and then she got called to help family. she got taken off the silph branch of the rangers. she became an average ranger.[break][break]

"i got called to kalos to help a family member with a dig they were doing. then i tried to come back but the barrier was up... came back as soon as i could after it went down though!"[break][break]

the way the barrier is described to her is curious. maybe she should have pushed harder to see it, or maybe taken captain out in the middle of the night to have a look without prying league eyes. but at the time, she was trying to do well. she was still technically half representing at the time, after all.[break][break]

as for what she found while on the dig with her sibling...[break][break]

"no, not really. i mean, they thought it was gonna be a real big discovery, y'know? and then it just ended up being bones of pokémon we already know. which, they're always on the look out for getting those fossils and trying to recreate the pokémon before giving them a new home."[break][break]

but beasts like that? they usually ended up on their own islands jurassic park style.[break][break]

a howl ahead has francie's whole body perking up, mary the yellow azumarill at her side perks her own ears up as well.[break][break]

"halle, don't touch it but can you track it with odor sleuth?"[break][break]

with a snort, she begins sniffing, then gets only just close enough to sniff the ooze before sniffing the air. an odor slueth changes her senses, heightens them, and she's able to begin her hunt at a small jog.[break][break]

"yes!" francie starts off, looking to mary. "get an auqa ring over you just in case we have to get in a battle, okay?"[break][break]

with a happy trill, an aqua ring surrounds the azumaril, coating the thick skin with a translucent layer of healing water.

halle sniffs about, her nose twitching. she finally comes to a stop and before them is a massive, terrifying, odd looking pokémon that francie hasn't ever seen before.[break][break]

her azumaril's body glows, healing a bit with that previous aqua ring. she readies some energy in her tail, preparing for an attack should she need it. her houndour does the same, chest heating up if she has to lash out.[break][break]

but the creature simply turns, that dimension oozing from its feet and tail. it looks to them all in mild confusion. it looks, and feels, lost.

while she didn't have one of her own, having left it with her sibling to help her with the dig when the barrier finally came down from around hoenn, francie was well aware of what a tyranitar looked like. this looked like a mecha-tyranitar and she was, admittedly, obsessed.[break][break]

the paradox pokémon turned, hearing the drumming and the two talking. bionic noises rumbled in its chest as he peered at the two humans and their pokémon.[break][break]

"w-whoa, hey. we come in peace, i swear." francie smiled brightly. "you okay? looks like that gunk got all up in your circuits there... i can try and help clean ya out."[break][break]

somehow. she wasn't sure how yet, but somehow.[break][break]

the warbling from its chest increased and a few sparks started to come from it. suddenly the floor was covered in an electric terrain, spreading across the cave. could be it was paranoid from all that gunk, could be it was just warning them not to try anything funny.
