He was a shadow in the depths of the cave, pressed against the wall on two sides so no one could jump out get the drop on him. It was all like riding a bike-- or the readaptation to breathing water by triggering the mammalian diving reflex.

Never lunge, never over-extend.

It took him back to long nights in Kanto: coating bullets in Seviper venom, laying tripwires in the mud. Much of the League was full steam ahead, gunning for the Seal Stone… but Fox had never been a frontline fighter, and that was not about to change, now.

With knife or sword or axe, spear, gun. The rules are always the same.

The sound of footsteps ahead has him slipping the tactical knife out of its sheath at his hip and crouching, prepared to pounce.

Temp is more of a front-line fighter. He was wide and tall and muscular. Preferred to beat the shit out of people with his fists rather than weapon or pokemon. Perfect for the job, one might claim.[break][break]

But right now wasn't that.[break][break]

What faelan foxgrove would find was putty stuck to the walls. Charges pressed into each one. A little line of death.[break][break]

Temp grumbled quietly. This wasn't what he was good at. But he could follow simple instructions; place putty, then make sure the twisted metal and wire stuck tight. Don't fuck up or get blown up.[break][break]

A Flareon sticks at his back, searching and waiting.

Fox notices the first charge as his gloved fingers trail over the wire, the change in texture alarming for someone whose senses are so anxiously heightened.

Phage appears at his side, the little Duosion hidden at the crook of his bent knee. Fox follows the steel wire back to who placed it with quick, silent steps.

He flips the knife in his hands and lunges, fist thrown out for a low stab.

She shrieks and bares fangs. A Protect thrown up at the last moment protecting the two of them from death.[break][break]

Temp whirls around, dropping the putty. He is tense. A fist is swung from reflex; not aimed but harsh if it lands.

The fist swings out over his head, but the element of surprise is lost. He throws a Pokeball and his Eelektross shoots straight for Temp’s face with a vicious headbutt.

Close quarters should give Temp some advantage. He's a fighter! But the Headbutt nullifies that, slamming him against the wall. His head cracks against the fleshy wall, pain exploding from the hit. A headache starts and his vision wavers for a moment. If that had been stone it probably would have actually knocked him out cold.[break][break]

Temp snarls and grasps for the vague shape of human he can catch in his dizzy eyesight.[break][break]

Agni is furious. She does not aim at the pokemon- but at faelan foxgrove. A flood of Shadow Flame pours from her lips, black and oozing and unnatural.

[attr="class","leymain"]Anguilla bounces off of Temp’s face like a ping-pong ball and turns around to try and grab his head in her gross eel mouth like some sort of Eelektross vore fanfiction.

Fox, meanwhile, feels the shadowfire before he sees it; the ground gets hot and then something ichor-slick crawls around his ankles. Then the burning begins. He cuts off an aborted cry of pain, biting into his lip and tasting blood as the flames crawl up his arms, sticky tendrils of fire that make his clothing smoke. There’s a smell of burning flesh as he pitches backwards and rolls away.

“Anguilla!" He yells, beating at his body to subdue the flame. The eel stops trying to make out with Temp and makes an irritated clicking noise, launching out an armlike appendage to hit the Flareon with crush claw.

A muffle cry. Temp feels the pokemon suction to his face. He grabs it by the tail and tries to tug it off with little success; the suction is too tight. This thing was a Throat Goat with no match.[break][break]

Agni chases after faelan foxgrove as he backs away, her jaws snapping at air and face twisted into something vicious. She doesn't expect the Crush Claw so it hits her hard; but she turns on the other pokemon quick. A Copycat allows her to Crush Claw right back.

[attr="class","leymain"]It’s like two children trying to whack each other with Stretch Armstrongs-- or a fight between Inspector Gadget and his slightly shittier clone. Anguilla’s crush claw snaps around the Flareon’s back-- the Flareon’s squeezes Anguilla in the middle. She compresses with a horrible sounding squeak, her eyes popping out of her head in squeezy-stress-ball fashion.

Fox manages to put out the flames, the smell of burning hair and cooked meat thick in the cave.

Anguilla begins to thrash, whipping back and forth like a rubber snake, liable to hit anything in the vicinity.

Temp glances at the other guy. Now, Temp was a vicious killer of a man yadda yadda. Yet he was not immune to the bit.[break][break]

Sadly, Agni was. Flames burst around her body, a Sizzly Slide in the making... with her 'chew toy' being the one taken for the ride.
