How... bittersweet. If what Eris is saying is correct, Ashley feels himself drop. Old Rocket is always on his mind, even subconsciously. His troubled life was on his mind. On the one hand, the scars are always scars; wounds long since healed that left their mark on him as they did on history. On the other, it's a reminder of what not to be. It's... tragically wholesome. He smiles, but it isn't a full one. Just hardly present.[break][break]

But as Eris seems to have fixed the issue, Ash's face lights up completely, as he thinks. Merlino was fine down here. He knew that. Cygne... he winces. The state she was in was way too rough. Jayden? He seemed fine after helping to bandage him up.[break][break]

He gestures towards the direction he came from. "Few hours ago, I saw Isaac down that way. Not here exactly, but a distance back. But... might be nice to be able to hear from the guy." But he does note the one person he does want to hear from just a little more.[break][break]

"But... I just want to tell Kep I'm okay. Really." He tries to give her a smile. If he can even do it one-way, if he knows he can get it, it'd set his soul at ease. But for now, it's likely his radio silence has left the boy closer to cardiac arrest.[break][break]

"He should be at base, outside of the Ultra Sea... that doable?"

Ever since, she'd been afraid to try and reach out, afraid to find out what kind of state he's in. If he was mentally broken, if he was wandering this endless abyss, or stuck somewhere fighting for ana fell's safety...[break][break]

If he didn't pick up, she'd-[break][break]

"Y- yeah, I can do that." The smile she mirrors is hollow, try as she might to put some soul into it. "Just let me... adjust the wavelengths."[break][break]

Something something about the rift interference and having to buffer the signals to have it pass, she understands just about enough to bring theory to life.[break][break]

"Try now. Might be a little unstable but better than nothing."

Eris' hollow smile rings true to his too, as he feels his eyes prick with tears. There's a part of him that wants to hug the girl right now. That's more Isaac's thing. But as she fixes it enough, he nods.[break][break]

"Thank you."[break][break]

He takes the device, only to ruffle Eris' head. His smile is sulky. And the lump in his throat makes it hard to focus. He places it to his ear. Preparing to speak to kepler brueshaber.[break][break]

"Kep? ... I don't know if you can hear me... sorry to not have made contact for so long. I... I'm okay. Promise." He's wiping at his eyes, and just eyeing the ground. Dammit. He shouldn't be crying. It wasn't like this was the last time he'd be seeing him. "I... I've seen enough of this hell for one day. I've done some things I can't take back. I've tried to get over last night, but it's hard to do it alone. It's so hard-" his voice cracks, and he grips the device with both hands, trembling. "-I could really use you right now. To know everything is going to be okay. To hear your voice. To grab your cheeks in my hands. I'm so tired, Kep. I just want to sleep... but I can't come home yet."[break][break]

He takes a moment to look to Eris again, and smiles, a few tears trailing down his face. "I will when this is all over. I promise. I just have to make sure everyone comes home safe. Couldn't forgive myself if I didn't try. Love you. Be home soon." He finishes... waits for an answer that never comes. And with sulky silver eyes, turns off the communicator for now, and sits back down.[break][break]

"Thank you." Though his smile is bitter, and he doesn't know if Kep heard him, he keeps wiping at his face. It isn't stopping.[break][break]

With a cracked, forced voice through a twisted tear stricken throat, he tries to speak more. But it's too much to speak right now. But after a moment, he holds the communicator back out to Eris. "Isaac?" he requests, in one word. He's trying to regain his composure now.

Nowadays with the plethora of adults she's somehow found herself acquainted with, she realises that not many of them are affectionate. Or that they're absolutely terrified that she might have some adverse reaction if they so much as try to hold her hand. Which they wouldn't be far off the mark - None of that interaction really sits well with her unless she consciously accepts it or is far too entangled in her thoughts to pay it any heed.[break]pbreak]

In this instance, she finds that she doesn't quite mind. If she flinches away or does anything weird, she fears that she might upset the already troubled Ashley. And so she tries her best to give him some privacy, though it's terribly hard not to listen given how close they are to each other.[break][break]

And it's even harder to ignore him when he's looking at her with tears streaking down his cheeks.[break][break]

"It'll be okay." She's a little awkward, but she does her best to reach over for a hug. "Today's just one big horrible day, and it'll all be over soon."[break][break]

Or so she hopes, but there's no real way of knowing until she hears the order to retreat over the radio. And there's no real way for her to know whether Isaac will be there to listen to anything that Ashley has to say. But if she wants to lie to him, she has to lie the whole mile, doesn't she?[break][break]

"This one." Foolishly, she tweaks his communicator to match the signals. "He might be a lil' busy but I'm sure he'll hear it fine."

When she does reach over for a hug, he just lets it happen, and just places an arm over his face, letting it out. He looks rough and still bandaged up, but he just tries to get through it all. After losing so much today, he just wanted to go home. To get some shut eye, and forget the world.[break][break]

For just a moment.[break][break]

"It will be." He does smile. Placing it to his ear. Sniffling, and trying to push through any pain, he begins speaking again.[break][break]

"Hey... bro. You there? I... I hope you're okay. Bongo, he's uh-" He can feel his heart ripping itself apart slowly, but shudders. "Cygne... she wasn't doing too good last I got to her. She's not in a good place... but you always rise above it. You are invincible." He feels the words come up so hollow. The bulletproof visage of the man who kept taking shot after shot. Still standing. "I hope you're okay. Don't worry. We'll find you soon. And get the fuck out of here." He doesn't worry about cursing.[break][break]

And then he stops. And hears nothing on the other end. With a sigh, he looks sulky. Just a moment, before getting onto a knee to hug Eris himself, if allowed.[break][break]

"... after we finish up. We're gonna go get some ice cream. For the summer. You in?" He requests, hoping Eris would want that.

Her breathing is kept steady with the mental count of 4, but her elevated heartrate is thoroughly cursed as she tries to play pretend. She'll do her best to stitch a believable smile together, if only to let Ashley's own remain unclouded by any additional worries.[break][break]

"Biggest scoops with a chocolate sprinkle cone." She lets him get that much needed hug, patting him on the back as if that might help to alleviate some of the stress. "Promise me you'll try the funkiest sounding flavours."

Honestly, Eris was a lot more put together than he was, so when she told him to try the funkiest, he laughs, wiping at his face. It's weak, and as he nods, he just chimes back.[break][break]

"Absolutely will. Weirdest flavors they got." With something a stitched together smile, he finally lets go. Sunny, the Scorbunny, now huddled into his chest as he pulls away for the first time. Wiping to his eyes...[break][break]

He sighs. Getting himself up onto his feet, and brushing himself down, before turning back the other direction.[break][break]

"Gonna go try and find whoever I can. Get them out of here while I can. Thanks for getting me back to working condition." He holds out a pinky towards Eris, making sure it was down towards her. "I'll be back. I swear."
