The sub was hot as balls today.[break][break]

Temp had come to do some training but had given up and made his way to the break-room. A quick lunch sat in front of him, being nibbled. It was even too hot here to eat, making him sluggish.[break][break]

At some point he had undone his shirt, body exposed for prying eyes. It was like the cover of a bodice ripper. Or the start of a really shitty porno. Which one? That was up to Aero.[break][break]

Sitting on the table was a Shinx. Her fur was yellow and shiny. She flicked her tail back and forth, watching the doorway closely. A faint glow seemed to be coming off of her, too. Weirdo.[break][break]

Temp hummed and popped another cherry into his mouth. Super sexy-like.[break][break]

"Oh, hey, Priam!" Temp greeted to priam conrad (needed to work that tag in). He smiled wide and motioned to the giant plate of sliced fruits and veggies in front of him. "Want a snack?"

priam had been around the sub to do a quick delivery, an easy in-and-out kind of deal where he just drops documents from the private labs of various rocket scientists to the general office of rocket's head scientists.

now that he's out, he unbuttons his shirt to reveal a dark undershirt underneath. heat was unbearable, but he had to look professional for office work before he can let loose.

he stumbles upon the break room, where he figured he can stop by before heading out again. temp's greeting calls him, and as someone with a short attention span, he responds to the new stimulus before dealing with the one thing he was supposed to do.

he already forgot he was just supposed to take a drink and get out.

"yes, please!" he approaches the table and takes a slice of an unknown fruit from the platter. he'd never seen a dragonfruit before. "do you know what this is called?"

he takes a sniff. it doesn't really have strong odors to associate it with.

"Pitaya!" Temp is eager to share, pushing the platter closer to the other. "They taste kind of like if a kiwi and a pear had a baby." He picked a slice up himself and popped it into his mouth.[break][break]

"You doing any important shit today, dude? How has bryan delarosa been?" Temp didn't know priam conrad very well but he did know Bryan! He even liked the big grouch in spite of how hard Bryan made it. It was kind of just basic talk but he hoped to get to know the other better. Temp had only heard good things about Priam.[break][break]

"Oh, hey, do you know anything about cats?" Temp leaned over and brushed his hand down Mitten's back. The shiny Shinx kneaded her paws a bit on the table, digging claws into the wood. Whoops.[break][break]

"She started glowing a few days ago and I don't know if that's normal."

priam answers the question while he chews with his mouth open.

"just a little bit of courier work stuff." he swallows the fruit. "ooh, and bry's doin' the same ol' thing of beatin' up new recruits for "training". i think he actually likes the beat up part a lot."

his eyes look up the ceiling as he tries to diagnose the taste of the fruit temp offered to him. he tries so hard to distinguish the hints of kiwi and pear, only to realize that he has a bad sense of taste given that he just eats whatever.

he's distracted from his thoughts by temp's inquiry.

"isn't that just them being a shiny pokemon?" work with the science people had him familiar with a bunch of common abnormalities. "they're supposed to be genetic though, is that the right word? the thing where it's determined by birth? anyways, they should be shiny from the start. did you do anything to it?"

"Huh?" Temp is visibly confused by priam conrad's words. He glances over at the Shinx, who looks back at him. Mitten gives a very dainty and cute yawn before flopping over on her side. She kneads her paws in the air, tummy exposed, looking up at Priam. A trap. She will try to chew on and kick the other man's hand if he dares to touch the soft tumtum fuzz.[break][break]

"Uh... oh! OH! No, no! She's been yellow since she was born. I meant..." Temp motions vaguely to the little swirls of very faint glowing coming from under her fur. Her eyes also had an odd glimmer.[break][break]

"She's like, literally starting to glow and it's fuckin' weird, dude."

he blinks and finds out that it wasn't just the natural sparkle shiny pokemon give off when light bounces off of them. the shinx itself is glowing.

"oh, it's like, um, what do you call it..." he snaps his fingers until he recalls it. "illumina! yeah. a lot of them hatched from eggs shortly before the tree of life went bye-bye."

he folds his arms as he looks at the shinx, more observant than touchy-feely at the moment as he finally is able to get something out of his brain to feel knowledgeable. it's all those time he spent at the league labs finally paying off.

"maybe you fed it something from the tree?" he shrugs. he doesn't really know the causes of it.

Temp hums at the explanation, finding Priam to be very smart.[break][break]

"I don't think I did? I just feed her kitty chow from the grocery store...." Temp frowned and glanced over at the kitten pokemon. She closed her eyes and started to knead her front paws in the air.[break][break]

truth be told, he knows next to nothing about illumina besides that they glow in with a natural light and its origins, and a little bit about the buzzwords attached to it. its effects and other biological implications it causes weren't in his data bank.

"i'm not really sure. probably not though! pokerus isn't really harmful, and i think this is similar to that!"

he didn't really participate in any study that involved illumina pokemon, if any had indeed happen, but it did happen around the same time pokerus had spread to baby pokemon, so it's probably similar.

probably.

"she's gonna be fine! besides, well, if we got researchers getting too antsy to suddenly start a study about them. they are filled with infinity energy or somethin' after all, so just start preparin' a good argument about why they shouldn't and it's all good."

There was a nod of some understanding as priam conrad talked. Priam seemed to know more about it than Temp did already, so that meant he was a very smart and knowledgeable source of reliable information.[break][break]

"Eh, I usually don't care too much if the lab guys poke and prod at my pokemon so long as they don't hurt them." It was kind of like a free vet checkup if Temp skewed it the right way.[break][break]

The placed his hand on the kitten's head, ruffling her fur up and causing her to purr. Little eyes closed into crescent moons, paws once again kneading the air as she got the attention she so craved.[break][break]

"Just weird it happened out of nowhere, I guess. I think I got one or two other glowing pokemon... but you know, I never really thought much about why? Hm."

"it's the radiation and stuff from the wormholes and weird rocks and other stuff, man! they keep makin' things weird, just like mega stones, except i guess this is more permanent."

it's a conspiracy theory that priam just whipped up on the spot. it's an observation with recent developments in science that priam doesn't really understand, so all he has are guesses that makes sense in his head.

"maybe it's from one of those wormholes that just popped up. you know, like the one at mt. pyre that connects to the border, or whatever it's called. i think you were there? anyways, what if it was an airborne virus that only affects pokemon and some have higher resistance to it?"

he only had guessed temp was there because his husband was.

his phone rings. he picks it up to read a message telling him to hurry up. the stories he came up would have to wait. his face turns sour for a bit before the liveliness comes back to his expression.

"i wish i can talk 'bout this more, but they're tellin' me to move..." he pockets it before moving to the exit, giving temp a wave of goodbye. "it's infinity energy! you should ask the science people if they have, like, radars for those if ya wanna look for the source!"
