The time had finally come. Her journey through the league circuit was coming to a close and she could see the finish line just on the horizon.[break][break]

She had been working her way up the ladder this whole time. However there was one nagging thought in the back of her mind, her loss to Katherine Fairburne and the question she had asked Melody. "Do you really want kyle lopez's job?" she says to herself in the locker room she had been waiting in. Almost copying the same mocking tone that Katherine had been infamous for. Even now she wanted to give a better answer, why DID she want to be champion? To be an example of what the region should be? Behind closed doors she was a mess, kyle lopez knew it MATIAS SILPH knew it, now even Hideo Kino knew it. [break][break]

If she could go back, she thinks she'd have a better answer for katherine now but it was pointless to think of such thinks. She silenced her thoughts as she heard the personnel calling for her to go to the battle arena. She could hear the crowd's cheers calling her and kyle's name. [break][break]

She wondered who would be here watching, Navy, ollie morales,...@madeleine? She looks across the stage as she see's him standing there in all of his glory. Kyle fucking Lopez. "Sorry to keep you waiting, but I guess a Diva is never late to the show, everyone else is just early." she says giving him a playful little wink as the crowd continued to cheer.

really? a public challenge?

the feeling of actually taking the effort to decorate his chamber and not use it. even Katherine Fairburne made an effort to comment on it in person. at the very least, it got showcased during the commissioner's route on rondez-view of luv.

then again, this wasn't about him.

"ooh, that's neat. i'll use that excuse next time," kyle points out as he stands on the other side of the arena. "i'll gas up the audience too, but, uh..." he looks around, "...we cant have them get too excited, i suppose."

an open uniform from the slateport police drapes over his shoulders to cool down from the hot hoenn heat, exposing a poochyena print on a gray shirt. hands rest on his waist, feeling a second set of pokeballs on his side, while he waits for the cheering to die before speaking up again.

"a four v four doubles match sound good to you?"

A GARGANCLE and GARDEVOIR pop out into the air as they both look at their opponent. She was nervous about her selection but these two had a surprising amount of synergy between each other. [break][break]

"I'm going with these two for the opening act. You?" she asks as he now has second pick.

that was convenient.

kyle throws two of his favorite pokemon out, given that there's really no good match up for him given the two melody had chosen. maybe he should've chosen his pokemon better instead of basing his theme around melody's.

"i'm going with these."

the mightyena and the vaporeon stand side by side against the garganacl and the gardevoir. kyle might as well forfeit but he really can't do that because melody just had to make it public.

"hey guys, did you know that in terms of male human and female Pokémon breeding, vaporeon is the most compatible Pokémon for humans?" he starts talking in the stadium full of audience. "not only are they in the field egg group, which is mostly comprised of mammals, vaporeon are also an average of 3”03’ tall and 63.9 pounds."

"AHHHH KYLE STOP." she shouts over him as she knew what meme he was referring to as Melody suddenly leaps into the first move of the match. "Gardevoir, pick gargancle then use Aria. Gargancle, Allegro!!" she orders as suddenly her pokemon spring into action based on her panci of kyle revealing how breedable a vaporeon was. [break][break]

Gardevoir's TRACE activates and copies gargancle's PURIFYING SALT. She steals some of the light in the air creating a white ball that turns pink once fully grown and flings it at the Mightyena as it uses MOON BLAST Meanwhile gargancle walks forward slowly and puts his "palms" or fingers together and condenses it's salt and fires it like a beam as it uses SALT CURE on vaporeon.

"i thought you wanted this fight to be viral?" he points out. "wouldn't that be a shortcut?"

a whistle sounds afterwards. it's a different note than usual, especially from those melody would hear from official missions and such. instead, the tone is a reminiscent of an old anime's theme.

the mightyena starts to glow, and kyle casually commands his vaporeon as it happens. "aqua ring."

the water-type starts to coat itself in water, trying to mitigate most of the salt cure with the properties of the aqua ring, though it wouldn't be the only defensive measure in the fight.

MIGHTYENA: MURDER MINSTREL
NORMAL-TYPE
mightyena unleashes a howl so chilling that enemies FLINCH. the user and those nearby gain a significant boost in all parameters.

the mightyena manages to tank the hit from the moonblast after what seemed to just be a howl. the only thing that would suggest that it's a z-move would be the same intensity everyone who's been around one would feel.

kyle crosses his arms as he ponders after his last idea got rejected. "hmm, how else could we make this fight viral..."

"Rondo! Alterando!" she shouts ordering them to do it again but to switch targets, but Kyle's z-move cuts in first.

She and both of her Pokémon flinch in response to the z-move as the terrifying howl rocked the arena and everyone around Kyle. She grits her teeth "It'll already be viral! You don't got to shout an old meme! For it!" [break][break]

She has to do something about that Vaporeon, it was a big threat to her gargancle, and with that Aqua ring...

"eh?" he whines in disbelief. "but people nowadays are only interested in the weird shit in the region. a fight's not going to cut it."

maybe if they had a song playing while they have their match like roxie's challenges it could have a chance, but as it stands, kyle's not sure if it does. then again, he does hang out on a different part of the internet than melody.

"oh, yeah. go muddy water, vaporeon."

no instruction was given to the mightyena as it goes on auto pilot since the first whistle. much like the moonblast, a darker color of a ball of energy gets flung at the gardevoir, aiming to retaliate with shadow ball.

though salt cure continues to discomfort the vaporeon, it's aqua ring aids with dealing with it. unlike the mightyena, there's no malice in the attack. instead, the muddy water hits everyone on the opposite side of the field indiscriminately.

She guessed he was trying to help, "Yeah but it's one of the first champion rank matches for a long time right? Don't you think that'd be enough?" she asks as a Shadow ball manifests alongside Vaporeon's muddy water. The gargancle braces for impact as the muddy water washes away some of the salt deposits on it's body and the Shadow ball slams into gardevoir. "Dancer! No!" She says as the purifying salt she copied activates to reduce some of the damage. [break][break]

"Dancer, Hymn! Gargancle Bar!" Gardevoir recovers from the blast as she dashes over to Gargancle's side to use HEAL PULSE to restore the damage done from the MUDDY WATER the temperature above kyle's side of the field drops as an AVALANCHE is created, BOOSTED from kyle's attacks hitting gargancle as it's trajectory is aimed at BOTH VAPOREON AND MIGHTYENA.

"normal people don't really care about the sport of it," he tells melody as he watches his pokemon get caught in the avalanche. "that's why people weren't really into the gym scene on hoenn until the weird things happened."

it's a smaller region than most. it wasn't glorified as it was in galar, nor was it a nice nature trail to experience the region like sinnoh. only locals were interested before then, and even then, it's because either from the lack of options or a glorification of their hometwon.

the mightyena snarls in response, oblivious that it won't do anything for the next bout of avalanche. sinister energy accompanies the threat, akin to the cutting words of a vicious mockery.

"make a wish for echo, vaporeon."

the vaporeon mirrors the gardevoir, albeit in a delayed manner. it would have been in an advantage with its aqua ring had the salt cure not taken root in the water-type.

"there will only really be two groups of people who'd watch this match without the quirks. want to take a guess which kind of people those are?"

She watches as the wish flies off into the sky, preparing to come down and restore the mightyena's health. Melody has to start chipping away at the one of them to ensure it faints or else Kyle would easily win this war of attrition as he had more options to debilitate her team. The snarl rings out, weakening both of her pokemon's offensive stats. [break][break]

"People who want to be where I'm standing?" she asks as Melody gives her next set of orders "Dancer, Lullaby. Gargancle, Allegro." she says as gargancle manifests a ball of salt and lunches it towards the Mightyena, intending to use SALT CURE on the pokemon. [break][break]

Gardevoir leaps off of garngacle's top pyramid rock and tries to descend upon the vaporeon from above as she channels a mystical power in her eyes and tries to use HYPNOSIS on the vaporeon to try and cripple kyle's options by only giving him one pokemon.

the only fans they ever get are people who take the gym challenge, or at least for kyle's case. there wasn't really an incentive to watch his matches outside of those two cases given that he doesn't have a following before taking up the job.

"and i guess if you're using moves like that, you're here to win instead of just giving the audience a show. then again, i suppose those are pretty much the same for them."

he thought using a stalling move in response to hers would be telling, but he supposed he was vague enough.

kyle doesn't give out orders anymore, given that his vaporeon has fallen asleep. his mightyena has been on auto-pilot for a while now. it ignores the salt cure that has stuck in its fur and releases a hyper voice that shoots on the opposing pair.

"That's true. But anything I do is a show, it's why I always put my all into it." she responds with a cheery smile on her face, reminiscent of the old way she'd always smile.[break][break]

"I like being a performer, the rush, the adrenaline. Don't most of your battles have you feeling the same way?" she asks him as she didn't really know about his perspective on battling at all, she figured since it's her first real match against him. The HYPER VOICE rings out, the mightyena's strong vocal chords rocking her side of the arena as both gardevoir and gargancle fall victim to it's power. [break][break]

The hypnosis landed on the vaporeon and lulled her into a deep trance like sleep as mightyena was still free to move about "Gargancle! Base! Gardevoir move out of the way with tempo!" she says as gardevoir TELEPORTS into the air to avoid the move from hitting her as gargancle outstretches both of his hands as the arena begins to wildly shake. He uses EARTHQUAKE and the ground is ripped apart as a fissure opens up on their side of the field looking to cause both of his pokemon to drop into a crevice.

"it's fun for me, but they wouldn't be for the audience if i had them," he answers.

the water-type drops into the fissure while the mightyena manages to hang on by the edge, opening its mouth as it pulls itself up.

the mightyena looks up to where the gardevoir teleported. it takes a deep breath before unleashing a roar towards its direction. at this point, kyle is convinced it's just showing off its moves.

"you've had the advantage, but you're the one stalling. why?"

the vaporeon remains asleep for another few moments despite the loud yelling from its partner.

"do you know why i had to use aqua ring and wish?"
