GYM DETAILS

DEWFORD GYM HAS FINALLY REOPENED AFTER OVER A YEAR OF CLOSURE. The town’s newly appointed Sheriff, Michael Navidson, has opened its doors and offers to take all challengers. It is a moderately sized blue building decorated with the symbol of the League with a plaque stating it is the gym.[break][break]

Inside, a challenger is greeted with a modest waiting room. There aren’t many chairs but ample space, allowing those who want to wait with their Pokemon to do so. Courtesy of Eris Halla, the walls are painted with childish renditions of dragon Pokemon and other beasts such as Tyranitar.[break][break]

Challengers are taken to a standard pitch for Pokemon battling. Green grass, neatly trimmed, standard size you’d see in the highly structured matches of the Galar region. No crowds are permitted to watch the battle.[break][break]

Inside the arena, it is just the challenger and the gym leader. Once the challenger agrees to start the challenge, they are lowered into a much larger arena built under the gym. This gym’s terrain is much more rugged, with large rock formations and outcroppings giving the combatants more room to maneuver.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE

THE PURPOSE OF THE GYM is to educate young trainers on the reality of Pokemon battling. In life, outside of official League challenges, there is no such thing as a structured match. People cheat, people play dirty, people try hard. Many civilians (whether of their own volition or inadvertently) end up caught in the battle between Team Rocket and the League.[break][break]

Navy aims to help those who challenge his gym by giving them a taste of how Rockets fight. What exactly this entails in the course of a traditional battle is detailed below.

RULES

TO ACCOMMODATE FOR THE CHAOS that can come from that many combatants on the field, each Pokemon is limited to ONE MOVE PER TURN. In-character, the rules are simply stated as being ‘standard League rules’.[break][break]

The only actual rule of this gym is that neither combatant can directly harm one another.[break][break]

THIS GYM DOES NOT FEATURE A NON-TRADITIONAL FORMAT, however, there is an optional augment to the format that a challenger can partake in, which still allows for a focus on battling basics.[break][break]

In these augmented battles, everything, including throwing out additional Pokemon while others are already on the field, is allowed. Participants are not typically informed of this in-character, and Navy keeps details of this aspect a secret. Please discuss with Teddie in advance about this option to discuss what the "surprises" may be.[break][break]

Adapting to unfair circumstances is part of being a trainer, and it seems appropriate to give a reminder that you need not win the battle to be awarded the badge.[break][break]

This format is still considered traditional since the main focus is still on battling.
