It was a nice Saturday morning. It wasn't too hot outside, the sun was shining, and everything seemed perfect. And Zain hoped it stayed that way for the sake of his own happiness because if the weather changed and he got rained on, there would be absolute hell to pay.[break][break]

Many of his clients had come back to him and told him that the activities he'd recommended for destressing were very helpful. Activities such as pottery, painting, horseback riding... they seemed mundane in life, but it allowed them to rest their minds and not think about the things driving their minds to a breaking point.[break][break]

So, Zain decided that if he was recommending these classes and activities, shouldn't he at least attend one or two to ensure that it was therapeutic? After all, he always wanted to better his practice for his patients.[break][break]

He found himself in Oldale, on a ranch where different horses were grazing about. Waving to the presumed instructor, he waited in the shade with the water that was provided.[break][break]

Though he was... oddly noticeably one of the only men there. Aside from another blonde that he spotted not too far away, he felt a stark contrast between the other attendees.[break][break]

"Hey. You here to decompress?" Zain asked with a small wave.

Its not uncommon for him to not know what he's doing on his weekends. It depended on what he could find that week. Especially right before or right after his therapist appointments. She'd asked him to try new things, so he was. [break][break]

Horse back riding. [break][break]

He frowned, looking at the ranch of horses as well as the assortment of people. He'd picked an early-ish slot, but most of the people here were....he supposed- young moms? Minus the kids? He felt a bit out of place. Then again, Paxton was always a little bit standoffish. Of course he stood out. He moved past little groups of women, trying to find somewhere to settle by himself. He's busy perusing under the shade of his baseball cap before someone speaks up. [break][break]

Not another mom, no. A glance over and its a blond he doesn't quite recognize, but he's friendly regardless. There's a pause as he processed the words before nodding. "Something like that." he said back. He doesn't follow up with anything, letting the silence hang between them and looking away towards some of the horses that were walking accompanied by other riders. Then he realizes he should've been talking more, ended the conversation with more finality than simply not responding. "So- um-..." he began, eyebrows furrowing as he grew a little more frustrated. He defaults to what's easiest. "Paxton. Paxton Concordas." his hand is out towards them before he can stop it. "You are?"

There was an air of awkwardness that hung between them. Zain's brow furrowed for a moment as he regarded the man, wondering if he'd struck some sort of cord or if he wanted to be left alone. After all, not everybody wanted to talk to just anyone.[break][break]

Zain was contemplating moving to give him some privacy and clear the air, but an introduction formed. He was taken aback for a brief moment before a smile crossed his lips.[break][break]

"Nice to meet you, Paxton. Zain Osman." He extended his hand, shaking it firmly.[break][break]

"What do you do, Paxton? Anything related to horses or horseback riding?" He chuckled, his question more teasing than an actual inquiry.

He gives the blonde a once over, memorizing face to name. He planned to do a couple more lessons if these didn't turn out to be a terrible time. He gives them a firm shake before letting go. "Oh- No, not really." he said laughing as well. More so mirroring Zain. [break][break]

"We had some horse mounted officers in the LCPD but...I didn't have an interest back then." he explained with a small shrug. [break][break]

"My job is actually more boring, I work as an intelligence officer for the League." he explained before tilting his head. "What about you, Zain?" he asked, testing the name to make sure he said it right.

"I see. So almost nothing related to horses or horseback riding. That begs me to ask, and you don't have to answer... why are you here?"[break][break]

Though as Paxton revealed what exactly he did for work, Zain could see the stressful nature that job could have. He couldn't imagine doing something related to it. "Wow. A big props to you, and thank you for what you do for keeping Hoenn safe. I'm sure it isn't easy."[break][break]

He chuckled, almost sheepishly. "I'm a psychologist. I work at Abra-Kadabra Counseling in Slateport. Therapy, counseling, you name it. That's my specialty."[break][break]

Zain looked around at the horses in the stall, some snorting and some neighing. "I recommend activities like these to patients sometimes. I figured I may try it out for myself."

"None whatsoever." he said, with a snort loud enough to attract a glance from another horse pokemon. He shook his head. "It's no big deal. I just work for the government instead of the police." he said humbly. [break][break]

"I see." he said quietly with a nod as Zain continued. "That makes sense. Can't do a good recommendation if you haven't tried it yourself." There's a small pause as the instructors move to bring them to pet some horses. Zain and Paxton are kept together, for convenience while they finish up the rest of the class first. "I often stay too long inside and follow a very strict routine. I was given the advice to...break out of it quote on quote. And horse riding is relaxing enough, and I also enjoy the outdoors so it seemed a good class to try." he explained. [break][break]

He pet the nose of a blue flamed Rapidash who closed their eyes when he did, soaking up the attention. Before long, a stable hand comes to help set him up on the Rapidash, along with moving onto Zain and their stead. Not quite off the leash yet, Paxton gets to sit as they lead around his horse while he gets comfortable with the controls.

"You say it's no big deal. But it's a big deal to those who live here," Zain remarked with raised brows.[break][break]

He laughed at himself. Paxton was right. Why recommend a therapy that you'd never done yourself? So, as they were told to pet the horses in front of them, he did so while carrying on the conversation. The MUDSDALE in front of him was towering and huge, but its personality seemed quiet and soft.[break][break]

"I always think it's good to get out and try new things. Staying cooped inside too long makes you think. And overthinking came trap you," he commented passively.[break][break]

It was something he dealt with a lot.[break][break]

He lets out a small huff in defeat, unwilling to argue just to appear humble with the therapist. Instead he gets used to his mount. The Rapidash, despite appearances, and maybe despite her siblings, was calm. He could see another Rapidash with matching blue flames a distance away bucking wildly at a poor cowboy trying to get on the saddle. He glanced down and then back up at their kin and he murmured, “Y’ain’t gonna toss me like that sucker right?” To which the pokemon responded with a whiney t6hat sounded a lot like a laugh. [break][break]

Paxton turned his attention back to Zain, nodding in agreement. “That’s mainly why my doc wants me to have a good number of extracurriculars on my plate when I can afford it.” he said with a small laugh. “Says I’ll rot if I don’t go outside and find a hobby. Working out is too monotonous for me I guess.” he added with a shrug as somebody showed up to help him get in the saddle. The trainers seem to be ready to take them on their ride, pulling the reins and leading his and Zain’s chosen horses out to the nearby trail. A dirt path shows the way but it seemed the horses already knew where they were going. Though, brief instruction was given to the beginner riders on how to hold the reins to steer, speed up, or slow down. [break][break]

To his delight, the Rapidash doesn’t take off when she can, instead falling in step with his companion. “You know, I’ve had friends that lived on farms but I’ve never…you know, ridden. It’s not that bad.” he began, looking back at Zain.

"I may disagree with your therapist a bit there," Zain said, though he paused as the instructor came around to teach them about the saddle.[break][break]

It turned out, getting on top of a giant MUDSDALE required a stool. But once he was one, he felt comfortable in the seat. He gave the horse a few stroke across her mane, cooing a few words of praise.[break][break]

"Having several activities for your mental health is a great thing if its the right thing for you to do. I always encourage people to branch out if they're having a hard time. However," he said with a pause.[break][break]

Zain pushed his heels in the steed's side, indicating she could begin to walk. Luckily, he and Paxton were able to keep conversation.[break][break]

"If you can find your activity that helps you, that's great. You don't have to spend a ton of money trying others things if you know what works for you. Don't tell your therapist I said that. I don't want to be beaten up," he said with a laugh.
