It was a pretty neat little look into the beginnings of their gang. Vee leaned forward in interest as Marshall went on to explain how the both of them had met in juvie. Completely on brand for Orthrus members, really. But the tale turned dark when it was revealed why Magnus had been put there in the first place. "He almost killed his own Dad?" she repeated, pursing her lips in thought. "I mean, I kind of don't know how that could feel like. But Boss seems like the type to almost kill a guy." It was an awkward sort of angle as Vee would play with her dreads for a bit, uncertain of what she should say that didn't amount to "I'm an orphan lol". After a bit, she'd grin at the second in command, crossing her arms as a passing Sinarek would crawl nearby on a tree.

"I betcha looked the same as you did now when you were sixteen. Back then I was still running from foster home to foster home. But what'd you steal that landed you in juvie anyway? Something expensive?"

Marshall said nothing. Perhaps Vee did not know yet that Orthrus did kill people. Those assassination contracts went straight to ozias ambrose. And who's to say Jack Magnus and even Marshall himself hadn't left people bleeding to death in a gutter somewhere?[break][break]

Vee's compliment about his looks was the perfect topic change.[break][break]

"I think so too. If anythin', I got even better-looking," Marshall agreed with a smirk, striking a pose.[break][break]

Then he relaxed again into a comfortable slouch. "We were stealin' liquor, hundreds of Pokedollars of it. Enough for a year's jail time, anyway."[break][break]

He tilted his head at Vee.[break][break]

"You were in the foster system too, huh? For how long? I was in it since I was like, five."

Vee laughed alongside Marshall, entertained by his playful little pose to her little snide remark. She really could imagine that him and the boss were pretty much the same people they had been since coming across them a short year ago. "A booze run, huh? Typical. I figured you woulda been stealin' somethin' worth way more. But it must have been pretty good shit to be liftin' it from somewhere." He asked about how long she had been in the foster care system as her playful expression flatered a tad. Eyes shot towards a nearby Morgrim rummaging about in the grass. Her mind debated telling Marshall about it. Weakness was something she didn't need to go blabbing about. But they were supposed to be a family, right? That was what Keira always said to her, even if she was so worried. Vee looked back to Marshall for a moment then cursed to herself, throwing a rock at the Morgrem out of frustration.

"Since I was born." she answered, giving a huff of shame. "Never even knew my real folks. Just passed off from one family to another, like some shitty mantlepiece to feel good about. Never really stuck with anyone else and when I was fifteen, I ran away. Joined up with that gang you destroyed, the Hellhounds. Then Keira found me one day starving to death and the rest is history." She answered at Marshall. Another awkward pause came as Vee leaned back on the rock, throwing her arms in front of her. Noodle carefully slithered up her leg and slowly made his way towards her head through her torso. She was silent for three seconds or so before then groaning, looking away after stomping her foot.

"Ugh, what the fuck am I doing?! I don't care about them. They didn't want me and I don't want them. You guys at least make me feel useful."

"Hey, don't knock booze runs. Some of the liquor they make can run for hundreds of Pokedollars each. We were makin' bank, thousands of Pokedollars on some nights."[break][break]

Marshall spoke with the pride of a lifelong criminal. There was no room in his brain or his heart for guilt. All the illegal acts he'd committed were for the sake of survival. One had to eat to live.[break][break]

He watched as Vee threw a rock at a nearby Morgrem. When it spooked, his Garchomp charged and knocked it over with TAKE DOWN. Marshall threw a Pokéball to capture it while listening to Vee's story.[break][break]

"That's rough," he said, commiserating. "Sounds like you and I had kinda the same childhood. I was passed around too. Lotta the adults beat me up 'cause they didn't know what to do with me."[break][break]

He shrugged. More than a decade had passed since those awful days. They were distant memories now, no longer able to inflict pain.[break][break]

"I ran away when I was fourteen, joined a gang, got caught and sent to juvie." He stretched and leaned back against the rock. "And the rest is history."

Vee groaned again, the usual teenage angst when something was bothering them but they didn't want to admit it. She huffed and looked back up at Marshall as he at least knew how it felt to be put in a system nobody cared about. Just passing kids through without a care in the world. And look how that went for the both of them. She sat up as a nearby Sneasler was wandering around and decided to try her luck. Noodle hopped off of her head and squirmed over towards the Fighting/Poison type, using Drill Runn to strike against the wild Pokemon. Vee frowned before shifting her head around, bumping Marshall's arm.

"Since we're both runaways and from the same system, that just means I have to make sure that nobody beats the shit outta you again." she smiled a bit, her mood improving a little bit as she checked back in to see Noodle using Double Edge against the Sneasler. Once it was weakened, Vee threw out a Pokeball to catch the Pokemon. "Sound like a deal?"

Marshall laughed, amused by Vee's declaration. Being beaten by the adults in his life meant he'd grown up lashing back at them. Fighting for survival turned into parking lots scuffles with other teens. Now, as an adult, he could brawl with the best of them, even if he wasn't nearly as good as ozias ambrose.[break][break]

But Vee's sentiment made her all the more endearing. "Deal," Marshall said with a grin. He hoped, of course, she would never have to fight someone for real.[break][break]

He watched her catch the Sneasler before standing from the rock. "Looks like you're getting the hang of catching Pokémon. Should we head back?" he suggested.

"Yeah, might as well. It was a nice distraction." Vee said, standing up as she'd begin to stretch a little, feeling stiff from sitting around for a bit. Once she was nice a limber, the mechanic spun back around to Marshall with one of her usual confident grins. But something caught her eye as a glimmering Pokémon would hover about to her right. She turned over just in time to catch sight of a Glimmora hissing at the two. Noodle quickly came to his owner's aid, the Dunsparce wriggling as threateningly as he could manage. "Drill Run, Noodle." Noodle would raised its stinger into the sky before then thrusting it towards the rock type. It tanked the hit, but the Glimmora would be somewhat unaffacted. It puffed up, spikes jjutting from its body as Noodle attempted to drill it again and again. By the third time or so, the Glimmora would fall to the ground in a weakened state.

Vee tossed a Pokeball at the small little thing, and once caught, nod to Marshall again. They began the walk back to the bike near the road. Before she got on, Vee stopped. "Hey, Marshal..." she began. Before he could answer, the younger girl would wrap her arms around him in a small hug, squeezing for a bit. "Thanks for the help." she said softly, smiling at him before throwing her leg over the bike. "And if you tell anyone about this, I'm pouring sugar in your gas tank."

Marshall watched Vee catch the Glimmora with a wide smile, pleased to see her so confident in catching Pokémon after just a short time. They walked back to his parked motorcycle in silence, but before he got on, she stopped him.[break][break]

"Always happy to help, Vee."[break][break]

He laughed at her threat and climbed onto the bike.[break][break]

"Sure, sure. It'd only be what I deserve."[break][break]

After handing her the spare helmet and putting his on, Marshall ignited the engine. The machine purred to life underneath them both. He pointed it in the direction of home and released the clutch.
