After reading the report on fellow underboss Elisabeth Fiorelli, and meeting with her in Rocket's medical bay, Cillian eventually finds himself in Petalburg Woods. Morbid curiosity draws him to seek the BLIGHT mentioned in BARNABY FINCH's report.[break][break]

His shadowed Breloom trots at his side, the fungal boxer doing its best to keep up with his longer strides.[break][break]

"Here we are..."[break][break]

He kneels among dried grass and withered leaves, fingers brushing the dead stalks. Would new life ever grow here? Or would it forever be a shrine to Elisabeth's ascension?[break][break]

Something stirs amidst the detritus, prompting trainer and Pokémon to turn.

Sunlight catches on four purple wings, and if not for Faolan's fated return from death Cillian would never have considered it. If not for the recent losses of Rowan Wrynn and Lulu Flint, he would've scoffed at the thought. But for a brief, heartbreaking moment, he almost hopes it could be her.[break][break]

Maeve. Necrozma had never left a body, after all.[break][break]

What if—[break][break]

The illusion shatters with an AIR CUTTER aimed for the throat, intercepted by Psellia's SKY UPPERCUT knocking the bat out of balance. Cillian stumbles back, regaining composure with a scowl.[break][break]

Of course it wasn't her. Everyone leaves, and most don't come back.[break][break]

He whistles, sharp, and with a click of his tongue the Breloom spits up TOXIC bile that sizzles upon contact, CORROSION activating to bypass immunity.[break][break]

His heart rate slows as the Pokémon falls. A scarred palm curls around an empty capsule... but Cillian pockets it with a shake of his head. You couldn't replace something important to you, no matter how hard you tried. jayden cross was not Rowan Wrynn. Naomi Sato was not Lulu Flint.[break][break]

And this Crobat had only death in common with the shadow of Cillian's past.

His hands, he realises, are shaking. Cillian curls them to fists, jaw clenched against a wave of revulsion.[break][break]

Love was supposed to make you stronger. Why, then, did it make him feel so fucking weak? That he'd thought for longer than a passing second about keeping Rowan Wrynn's secret should've been sign enough that it was dangerous.[break][break]

In the five stages of grief, anger was often a respite.[break][break]

What had Lulu Flint been thinking, abandoning him like this? At such a pivotal moment in their lives?[break][break]

An unfortunate Ivysaur wanders into their midst as Cillian ruminates on mounting rage, and a click of his tongue sees Psellia dispatch it with a FACADE. She was POISONED by her earlier toxic, doubling the move's power.[break][break]

Though she had POISON HEAL, Cillian did not like to let her suffer the condition overlong, lest she become immune to its effects and lose the power it could grant. When the Ivysaur crumples, dead, the Rocket underboss crouches down next to his Pokémon and administers an ANTIDOTE.

He thinks at first that they'd failed to kill it; that this Crobat is a spirit risen from the earth to enact vengeance. But as fading sunlight catches on its wings, he realises the difference in their colour. Brief flashes of yellow where blue should have been, a blur of pink.[break][break]

He forgets his anger in lieu of fascination, clumsily clicking his tongue to draw Psellia's attention.[break][break]

"Don't kill it," he adds with a hiss.[break][break]

I want this one. Though it bore a shadow's resemblance to the one he'd lost, its rarity was difference enough.[break][break]

She lunges with a SKY UPPERCUT and drives the bat toward the ground, equalizing the playing field as it sinks its teeth in for a BITE. As WHIRLWINDS begin to form, Cillian orders the Klefki at his belt to snare the target with its SHADOW HOLD.[break][break]

Trapped and furious, the Crobat aims its TOXIC bile toward Cillian, who steps back out of its range as he reaches for a pokeball.[break][break]

"Keep it down."[break][break]

Though her FACADE is weakened by the lack of poison running through her veins, persistence is key. When at last the Crobat surrenders to unconsciousness, Cillian tosses a pokeball.
