Thanks in large part to the efforts of Eva Morales , Petalburg Woods had been cured of its blight. Good had won, and the evil that was Elisabeth Fiorelli 's Wo-Chien had lost. All that remained of the attack carried out by the Scorned was a memory. A horrifying memory that reiterated to Shalin the importance of getting through to her Type: Null. Lathiel was hardheaded and hardhearted, but even the hardest of hearts were not so leaden as to be immune to the power of a bond betwen Pokémon and trainer. Many League Avatars, including Eva herself, had proven that, if the stories she had heard from Josh about riding Rayquaza were true.

Speaking of riding, that was the purpose of the meetup Shalin was to have with opal garcia at the freshly-purified Romping Grounds. Through experimentation, she had discovered that for the Infinity Energy to flow at its maximum capacity, she didn't necessarily need to be mounted on her Flygon. She just needed to be near her. Her three psychic-type Pokémon kept a lookout for Opal: Reynir, a Shiny Galarian Rapidash; Prance, a Wyrdeer; and Starr, a Shiny Espeon. On the opposite side of the lake, Lathiel and Sandy sparred with one another, the Type: Null developing the reflexes needed to safely and effectively fight with Shalin on her back when the day came.

With all five of her Pokémon stationed accordingly, Shalin popped open her sixth Poké Ball, Treble the Kommo-o emerging from it. Quick to mount up, she observed the match Sandy and Lathiel were having, her skin already tingling from feeling the scales beneath her shaking. "I'm ready when you are, Treble! Let's kick this off!" With that, the fighting-type rattled and rocked his rider with a low-powered CLANGING SCALES just as fast as the one she was exposed to alongside Julia Davis in the Mirage Palace. This time, though, her suit made it feel more like a strong massage. Rather than overwhelming her, it felt... not even disorienting. Liberating. "Whoo-hoo!" Shalin cried. "Crank it up, Treble!"

When she had been told that they could go ahead with the riding lessons she was excited. The clean up off the place hadn’t taken as long as she thought it would so the time to do the riding lessons had come sooner than she expected. Like the last time Hercules and Eos would be with her. Since she needed the Machamp to carry her and the Kirlia was basically there to just so she would have more company as she made her way back to Shalin’s romping grounds.

Reaching the romping ground this time around didn’t take as long this time. Since she had already been in the area before. Eos would tell her when she saw Shalin and once that had happened she would make her way to the older woman. Upon reaching them Eos would greet the three psychic type Pokémon while Opal would wait for Shalin to finish up with what she was doing.

Once Shalin had joined her Opal would greet her. ”Hey, how have things been?” she would ask, hoping that the older woman had been doing well since they had last spoken to one another.[break] Shalin Nariya

Rather than work on moves Lathiel needed practice with, as Shalin had instructed, the Type: Null continued to hone her already-mastered CRUSH CLAW, colliding with the Flygon's DRAGON CLAW loudly. Hearing Opal's voice, Shalin called out to her Kommo-o. "Treble, stop your scales! She's here." The rumbling slowly ceased, the ringing dragon-type attack with it. Though she stumbled sliding off Treble's back, she landed on her feet and stayed there.

"There you are, Opal!" Shalin greeted, many of her team members letting out greeting cries of various kinds. It was a good thing Starr was so close to Opal, or the Espeon's mew may have gone unheard. Shalin's trio of psychic-types would return Eos' greeting and communicate their positions to them; with that, they could relay the information to Opal directly if the Kirlia was so inclined. "I brought my three psychic-types with me this time. Starr the Espeon, Prance the Wyrdeer, and Reynir, a Rapidash."

Not wanting a sudden ringing noise to drown out Opal's hearing, Shalin withdrew her Kommo-o and prepared to hop on one of the two psychic-types her friend didn't pick. "Any of them would be good to learn with. The Rapidash and Wyrdeer are traditionally controlled with reins, but Starr prefers to link with a rider's mind and take direct mental commands." Once Opal made her decision, Shalin would be willing to help her hop on if she needed it.

The sounds were loud and she was relieved when the Kommo-o stopped rattling his scales. That was one less sound to assault her sensitive hearing. The other sounds she could deal with now that one of them was gone. Even so the warm smile she had on her face never went away and she happily greeted the younger woman. Not seeming bothered that her previous greeting had been lost in all the noise.

Thanks to Shalin’s pokemon and Eos she was able to determine the location of each of the psychic type Pokémon. All three sounded like great Pokémon. Though Wyrdeer wasn’t a Pokémon she knew very much about. And she was more familiar with the Kanto Rapidash as well. But she was a lover of all Pokémon, so she had no preference over the other when it came to riding.

She never noticed when Shalin returned Treble to his pokeball as she thought over her options. She listened to what the older woman had to say. Starr seemed like more her type. Mainly because she was use to the telepathic link she shared with Eos. Often times she just didn’t use verbal commands with the Eos because of that, preferring the telepathic link.

”I’ll go with Starr, I’m use to the whole mind reading thing things to Eos. So I think it will be easier,” she explained to the older woman. She was also nervous that with the reins she might accidentally pull too hard and end up hurting the Pokémon. That probably wouldn’t be the case but it was a thought that was hard to shake.[break] Shalin Nariya

"Perfect!" Shalin replied with a nod, whistling for her psychic-types to come. The Shiny Espeon nuzzled Opal to make her aware of her presence before crouching and mentally prompting her to get on. Once she was aboard, Opal would find the Espeon still wore a saddle for both their comfort. Just as Shalin advertised, one of the first things she would do once she established the mental link would be use her psychic power to harness Opal to her back. No matter how much she lost her balance, she wasn't falling off.

Just as she was preparing to get on her Wyrdeer's back, an upset-looking Lathiel sprinted toward the normal-type without warning. The trainer dove out of the way as another CRUSH CLAW socked the hooved creature. She withdrew the Type: Null to her Poké Ball before matters could escalate any further. "I'm so sorry, Opal - I don't know what Lathiel's problem is. Anyway, just think of what you want Starr to do, and she'll do it!" With Prance out of commission, that left Reynir, her Galarian Rapidash, to run alongside the Espeon. She joined the psychic-type, mounted up, and followed Opal's pace.

Due to the Espeon nuzzling her she was aware of her presence. She appreciated that the psychic type had the forethought of letting her know she was there. Even if Eos used the telepathic link between them to tell her as well. For which she thanked Eos for mentally.

With Hercules help she was able to be put on the Espeon. Once she had been out on the feline Pokémon’s back she felt psychic energy around her. From what Shalin had said earlier she knew the psychic type had to be harnessing her on with her psychic powers. And once that had been done the psychic type would establish a telepathic link between them.

Thanks to Eos she knew what happened. Though she loved all pokemon she was relieved that she had put the Type: Null back into his pokeball. Then she felt bad about that relief.

”Maybe it was jealous,” she said in response to the older woman. That was the only thing she could think of. Since jealously made people do stupid things. Of course that wasn’t the only emotion that made people do stupid things. But it was one of the most common.

She would then allow Starr to start. Of course since she was new to the whole riding thing she didn’t have Starr go to fast. Even though she knew she wouldn’t fall she would still like to get use to the motion of riding a pokemon.[break] Shalin Nariya

Though Shalin didn't fully understand what made Lathiel so aggressive, the grim instructions and background she read in the Type: Full manual led her to believe it was just part of the species. It was almost like Lathiel was not a Pokémon, but a biological weapon of war. She didn't want to sour Opal's mood. This was a joyride unlike anything Opal had been able to experience before, and spoiling it with negativity could impact how things went between her and Starr.

The psychic Pokémon, having harnessed Opal up, was quick to enter a comfortable trot. Reynir's hooves clopped next to the Shiny Espeon's nearly silent footsteps. Once she felt the teen's comfort level rise, she would accelerate to a canter - the slowest speed necessitating a running stroke instead of a walking stroke. It would be at that point where she would be able to feel the pronounced rising and falling of the intelligent feline's back. If she were ever to lose balance, the psychic harness surrounding her would reinforce her. Even Reynir was getting excited and started running. Several other park-goers had their eyes on Opal and the unusually large Shiny Espeon as they jogged around the concourse. "Probably the most fun, and most useful aspect of riding a psychic Pokémon is teleporting. Many can teleport their riders with them."

She didn’t know much about Type: Null. Shalin’s decision to hide what kind of Pokémon Type: Null really was was the right one. In many ways Opal was still innocent. One would almost say she’s pure. Not a mean bone in her body. So hearing about Type: Null and how it had come to be would definitely leave her shaken.

Luckily Starr started with a trot and didn’t try to start with a run. Probably because she was new to the whole riding thing. The Espeon had probably picked that up from her thoughts. It didn’t take long for her to get comfortable and Starr to that as her cue to accelerate to a canter.

She would start to feel a difference in the way the Espeon. A rise and fall of the back as it flexed. Of course it wasn’t to terribly announced. She just enough that she could feel it up her back. She could feel eyes on her but ignored them keeping her mind mostly clear so she could give the Espeon directions or at least not confuse her.

The mention of teleport had her looking up. ”Eos knows teleport. Of course I wouldn’t go about riding a Kirlia but if she were able to use teleport while on my lap I’m sure she would able to teleport the both of us,” she said. Though she figured it would be a feeling she wouldn’t care for.[break] Shalin Nariya

The transition from a trot to a canter was always the roughest part for inexperienced riders, for that was the speed one would feel their mount's true strides. Some didn't like the bouncing feeling of a Pokémon's flexing back. Others lived for it. From what Shalin could see, Opal was adapting nicely. "She's easy to control, isn't she?" she asked, though she knew what the answer would be. There was little easier than pure mental control; all one had to do was think a command, and it would happen.

"It's probably a similar feeling to teleporting with Eos, then," Shalin explained. She knew from experience, having been introduced to the feeling through Callan Young 's Gardevoir all that time ago, when she was still trying to learn about Prance's evolution. Now the evolution of Stantler was common knowledge. It was amazing how much could change in the course of a single year. "The best way I can describe it is feeling like your body weight leaves you as your vision turns white. Then everything returns to you, and you're in some totally different place."

There was one caveat with Starr, though; she wasn't capable of a true teleport. "Starr can teleport, but on a more limited basis. She can only perform a type of teleport called an Ally Switch, where she'll go through the astral plane to switch places with a person, Pokémon or a large enough inanimate object. You can try it with us if you want," Shalin offered as Reynir continued to keep pace with Starr.

Hearing Shalin’s comment she nodded before speaking. ”Yeah it is,” she agreed. Basically the only thing she had to worry about was keeping her thoughts clear. Something she was use to when it came to Eos. Since she did have a bit of telepathy link with the Kirlia. Though it was a weak one, not as strong as it would be if Eos had telepathy as an ability.

Teleportation wasn’t something she was familiar with. Eos having never had to use it outside of battle. She only knew she had it due to looking it on her Rotom dex and it telling her.

”I’ve never had to use it. I only know Eos has teleport due to looking it up,” she explained after Shalin had explained what it was like. Considering she was blind she wondered what it would be like for her. Not that she planned on having to use teleport. She tried not to end up in situations where she would have to use it.

The move sounded vaguely familiar. Perhaps she had heard it in passing. She wasn’t sure. But whatever the case it might actually be a good idea to take Shalin up on her offer. So she would know what it was like. If she knew what it was like she wouldn’t be caught off guard if Eos had to use it for some reason.

”Okay,” she agreed deciding to give it a try. Using her thoughts she requested for Starr to use ally switch on Shalin and Reynir.[break] Shalin Nariya

After the mental command, Opal and Shalin would experience a strange feeling of weightlessness, their vision fading to white as the Espeon took both of them on an ethereal jaunt through the world of spirits. Though the environment was incredibly hostile toward humans, it would be totally harmless for the split second they would be exposed during the short-range teleport. Once their weight and vision returned, they would find their places swapped.

"It can be a bit scary the first time you do it, but you'll get used to it after a few times," Shalin assured Opal. "It's really handy, too. You can even switch places with objects in a certain size range. Long as you have something to switch with, it's a short-range teleport, and can be really useful." The two riders and Pokémon began to turn toward Shalin's home, though it was still in the distance a fair bit.

Switching places with a something else would take some getting use to. She supposed it would be good practice for teleport though, since the mechanism behind the move was similar. The feeling of weightlessness had given her a feeling of being there and not there at the same time. That was the best way she knew how to describe it. Definitely was a strange feeling. But she was well aware that Eos teleport might come in handy, so strange feeling aside it hadn’t actually been to bad.

”It certainly is a strange feeling,” she agreed. Getting use to the feeling did seem like a good idea, so she would make sure to practice. When she got home she would practice using teleport with Eos. Though she would probably wait until her sister was home to practice.

She felt the Espeon turn and figured they were heading back. The way she had said that made her think she used the move quite a bit. ”So you use the move quite a bit?” she inquired as they continued on the way to where they had met.[break] Shalin Nariya
