Raju was pulled into a room in the back of Club Olympus and shoved in there. With a very brief introduction and reason for him being there, the lady left! Left the pale blonde in with...some enormous guy. Granted, Raju had Brownie the Paldean Wooper on his head, but still. Clad in black with multiple ear piercings, he sat down and gave a small wave. Clearly the owner or maybe an officer of the Orthrus Gang. All Raju could tell was that he didn't want to get on the guy's bad side. Clearly powerful and a...man's man. Sure, Raju was much stronger than he looked, but he was a shrimp and looked like a standard twink.

He hadn't been in Hoenn long. Long enough to arrive in Slateport, get a lead as to where the Orthrus Gang's hideout was, found it, managed to sneak himself into the underground fighting arena, and managed to get himself into some matches. Well, only two, and won both of them, but still. Since leaving Paldea, he'd been virtually homeless with little money. But he had his scooter and managed to do some small gigs that allowed him to have some. Tough as he was...Raju was not a talkative sort, let alone to someone with a lot of power. Case in point, he just sat here, sweating bullets as he waited for this BAMF to start speaking. Raju still didn't know why that lady had giggled when she practically pushed him in here, possibly interrupting something very important...

The fighting ring was nice, this time of night. Magnus would be in his typical jacket, though he didn't have the sleeves on, so it hung on his chest. He wore no shirt, in case he got called into the ring. Or in case some one who had joined wanted a piece of the Mag Daddy. But he was subjected to watching tonight. Some kid found his way in here, and Magnus just got to watch.[break][break]

Had some spirit too. So with a word with someone, he finds himself heading to another room, and awaits the arrival.[break][break]

Moment the guy is in, Magnus looks down over him, towering the guy by like a country mile at six foot nine, and he says, wih a toothy grin that moves ear to ear. "Good fights, kid. You got spirit. I like that."[break][break]

He throws a hand out, the giant raising a brow. "Jack Magnus. You can call me Magnus. I'm the leader of Orthrus." He waits for the shake. He waits to see what the kid does, intrigued.

Toothy grin...usually not good. But then...a compliment? The giant put out a hand and introduced himself as Jack Magnus, the leader of Orthrus. Wait, LEADER OF ORTHRUS?! His eyes bulged when it clicked. Well, at least he found the guy to talk to at least. Shakily extending his fingerless gloved hand to take the handshake, Raju introduced himself. "Raju Mystic...Castelia City native...I've heard of you...and been looking for the gang since an incident..." Well...more like after he came of age and started looking more into the symbol and the gang itself. But he supposed he better elaborate before he got taken the wrong way and ended up in the dumpster in pieces.

"Er...more like, my abusive father either had a hit placed on him or he pissed off one of your guys enough that they went after him. Mom and I helped your guy, even if mom ended up dying in the process. Either way, thanks. I've heard you guys were...still are, pretty strong..." His voice was shaky, and meek. Even as he released the handshake (even Magnus's hands were huge!), he looked down at the floor, almost afraid to make eye contact. Brownie slid off his head and plopped down on his feet. "A-anyways, I would like to join. I...hated being weak. Even after I moved and took lessons, and got into brawls a lot, I still wish to be stronger. Granted, I'd like a more stable income than just being a fighter in the ring. I do have more skills than just being able to punch someone's lights out. I know you guys aren't heroes or anything, so don't think I want to join out of some misguided hero worship bullshit...I just...feel like I owe you guys for taking out a menace in my life..."

Hopefully that explained everything he needed to. At the end of his little spiel, he did give the gang leader eye contact, Raju's hazel eyes meeting Magnus's, showing the resolve that the younger male had. He wasn't just a physical fighter, he was also a good pokemon trainer, a good cook, and knew how to clean. He just hoped his nevousness and shyness wasn't a turn off on the recruitment.

Eh? Wants to join after a mission they conducted? Magnus feels like he'd remember this incident. He ponders, thinks it through. Abusive fathers? Yeah, that's something they'd handle and deal with. That sounds about right. Apparently, the kids' mom died in the process, and after they shake hands, he gives a look of recollection.[break][break]

"Oh shit, you were the kid? Yeah, one of my boys handled your pops. Shit, dude, I only heard about it in passing!" He's laughing now, almost throwing a finger to his eyes, trying not to laugh too hard to tear up. "Nah, I get it though. My old man was shit too, so we got that in common."[break][break]

He got into brawls a lot? He didn't want to be weak? He thought he owed them? That last one made his smirk disappear, and his eyes narrow.[break][break]

"First lesson if you're gonna be a dog, kid. You owe nobody nothin'. That jackass would get his comeuppance one way or another. Ya'hear me?" He's frustrated now, but it's less that the guy made him that way, he just hates thinking that the guy owes them anything when they did this because they could. Owing was left for business. Not for abused kids.[break][break]

He had the resolve in his eyes too.

Seemed the big boss remembered the job, even if only in passing. Raju gave a shy if cute smile that the big boss found it funny, if in a cynical way. Seemed he too had a shitty dad. Perhaps why he had decided to rule the streets. After letting go, he watched the giant carefully as he processed Raju's words. It seemed the last one about oweing them struck a cord though. The booming voice made him jump back, but kept eye contact. Meek as he was, he knew when to stand his ground. Didn't owe them anything? Lowering his eyes, he thought about those words.

Yeah, his old man probably would have gotten punished somehow. Be it someone biding their time when his father was drunk and/or higher than a kite and struck then or sabatoge. Maybe his mom would poison the fucker one day, he could tell she was nearing her breaking point. Oddly, his shoulders relaxed, like a weight was lifted off his shoulders. Even Brownie waddled towards him and looked at him with his derpy face, like it was going to be okay. Returning the man's gaze, Raju responded back. "That just makes the decision to join you easier. What else do you want to know about me?" Raju's Paldean Wooper hopped onto a chair and sat down while the boy relaxed himself even more. Even with his resolve, he was still very much a mouse compared to this guy.

Guy's shoulders relaxed. It was that easy, really. So the decision to joinf or him was made easier by the fact that he doesn't owe them. And that meant he could run with the wolves. But, it still wasn't that easy.[break][break]

Well, it was. But it wasn't.[break][break]

"I just have to ask one loaded question." It was as simple as that, and as he leans forward towards Raju, seeing the Wooper, he relaxes. With a crack of his neck, he ponders how he wants to really go for it. And then...[break][break]

"Got any aspirations? Lot of people who run with the pack got somethin' they like. Fighting. Motorcycles. Host Club. We do a lot. What do you want out of life?"

The leader had a loaded question. That put Raju immediately on guard. With a crack of the neck, Magnus, asked it. Aspirations? What did he want out of life? Well..."To never be so weak or helpless again. And also maybe to overcome some of my own shortcomings..." Even with one eye covered in his bowl cut, Raju was shifting, blushing when he admitted it. He wanted to be a better, stronger person. Although he did enjoy a good scrap now. With his two index fingers pushing against each other and back, he continued. "I do enjoy a good fight now and then. Although financially speaking, the fighting ring isn't consistant enough. But I do think the Host Club could help me out with some of my problems...I'm not the most sociable person or anything. Plus it'll provide an onsite guard should it need it, and a consistant income. I also like taking care of others?"

He liked seeing the smiles of people when they ate his cooking, or the relief they had when the dishes were done, laundry too, and more. Aside from being a scrapper, he knew very much how to clean and be essentially a house husband. Even if he looked more like a little brother than anything. And he had no problems punching someone if they refuse to eat their veggies or taking it easy if they're injured. The blonde just hoped Magnus didn't question his nervious sounding voice, or could hopefully detect the young man's own resolve. He wasn't just looking for a job or two...he also wanted to grow.

Fighting Ring not enough, maybe host club security? "Sure nuff. That should be doable. Just gotta talk to my girl Lani." He leans back a bit more.[break][break]

It's human, wanting to aspire to be better, to not fall into weakness, but Magnus just leans back. "I respect tryin', kid. I do. What are your weaknesses then? List them out." It's fine to say wanting to overcome them, but this was a self-evaluation. What weaknesses did he have? Magnus knew his. He was too loyal. He was ride or die a lot of the time. That put friction with Jasmine Blair and Leilani Ka’uhane, because his jealousy put them in arguments often. He didn't like when he lost what was his.[break][break]

It was a crude way to see his partners. He admits that. He accepts that. He wishes it weren't so, but he knows it is.[break][break]

For now. The road to overcoming one's flaws, is set by understanding what those were.

Perhaps Raju was trying to be too logical? The boss had to talk to someone named Lani. Probably the person that ran the club? Then who was the girl that showed him in here? And how deep was that chair?! That was twice the giant leaned back. What were his flaws? List them out? What was this, a sefl-evaluation test? Raju looked away and down...feeling small again. He hated these kinds of things. It was just a simple question! He had an easier time beating people half to death than this. "Um...I get too nervious too quickly when asking for anything. I don't always speak my mind or say something like I should. I'm too quick to resort to fists when anyone annoys me...or at least refuse to try something I cooked. I often don't know when to quit. I'm not much of a team player in a fight. I'm...not good with authority figures still. I'm not good with words. I'm too passive. And I lack confidence doing anything not cleaning or cooking related..."

The blonde just looked like he was shrinking more and more as he admitted some of his faults. There was likely more that he could list, but couldn't think of them right then. The poor guy just didn't know how to react to Magnus. It was like he had experience being a psychologist or something!

Raju begins to go over his weaknesses. Magnus doesn't interrupt. Not even once. This wasn't for Magnus to attack him on. He wans't going to use this list against him. In truth... Maggie wanted one thing from it all.[break][break]

"Good. You listed them out. Proud of you, kid. You're Orthrus."[break][break]

It wasn't that he wanted to humiliate Raju at all. It's the fact that he needed to list it out all himself. He wanted Raju to tell him every piece of info. If he sucked at cooking, Orthrus would help teach. If he's not a team player, the team can help. If he's gung-ho on fisticuffs... he'll learn to temper with others.[break][break]

That was Orthrus. They were a pack. They looked after each other.[break][break]

Magnus holds his hand out for a shake.[break][break]
