The sound only swells into something louder and full when he finally does reply.[break][break]
"Oh, says the pot to the kettle," Fern remarks, teasing as they nudge him with an elbow. "It's not like we've never done the same. We've just never been caught."[break][break]
Fern scoffs, nose wrinkling and blue eyes rolling, "Let the clergy clutch their rosaries and be done with it. They are just as gossipy as any other person in Ballonlea. Don't take it so seriously."[break]break]
They turn toward him, though, brow arching. "Or is there another reason you're concerned about it..?"

[attr="class","text"]it is obvious, how quickly he grows flustered by a few words alone. fern laughs, the sound breezy and light as they watch heat slip along his skin in vivid color.[break][break]
there's a small comfort in this. he is a king now, and still something will always remain the same.[break][break]
a coy smile curls on their lips. "you can't argue because you know it's true." they wink for good measure.[break][break]
and then they relent and let poor jayden breathe. sighing, fern looks at him with a tilt of their head. "perhaps, but that is their issue to sort out."[break][break]
they wind their arm in his again. "is this only because it makes you uncomfortable to see them in a different light?" they ask carefully, glance shifting sideways to him. "or because there's something concerning about it?" that would, maybe, change things entirely.
