”Ohh~. A fan of Castellano, too~?” he mused, raising an interested brow as he reached beneath the counter. He only spared the space a brief look as he rustled with the bags located a small ways away, opening the frontmost one to drop the novel within its confines before peering towards her again. ”We do have a number of his books, too, yeah~. You interested in checking them out?”

maria only knows that she's happy enough that someone shares her taste in literature. for the time being, she will live in blissful ignorance. [break][break]

said ignorance being the reason she can smile at this, and why she's so eager to continue talking about the novels and books she's read over the past little while. despite the initial meeting and impressions, he's quite cultured, isn't he? "well, this is a pleasant surprise." the ginger woman hums, eyeing down at the few novels lined up on the shelves. [break][break]

lo and behold, she finds a familiar cover on display - she imagines that they do this on purpose. "ah, this one~" she chimes, reaching a hand over to pick it up with a soft smile to her lips. "i had a copy that i read cover to cover, but i think it's been lost under a stack of books.." she always enjoyed the smaller titles and exploring the self published books, after all - and there was enough of those to fill an entire library. [break][break]

but it's not enough that he has all of this; no. he means to tell her that there are more books, and hearing this? she can't be expected to maintain the sparkle in her eyes, as the greed of fiction literature is a strong gremlin. "really?" crystal blue eyes glow all the same.[break][break]

He glanced over as she picked a book from one of the nearby shelves, raising a brow and nodding.[break][break]

”Ah. That one’s definitely a good one, from what I recall— one of his more fantastical works, but still good, nonetheless~.” Another, musing hum left his lips as he leaned upon the countertop, propping his chin within his palm as the keypad awaited his customer’s attention. ”We a fair amount of his other books, too— each in their own genre sections, so we’d need to guide you through, but still~.”[break][break]

His head tilted within a lull as he eyed her further, all while a chuckle escaped his lips.[break][break]

”...Though I do have my own collection,” he added, winking. ”If you’re so intent on calling me, maybe that could be something I introduce you to~? Y’know, give you a chance to peruse for free before you lock your purchases in~.”

"i sound so clingy if you put it that way." the book is still held carefully between her fingers, but she takes a moment to place it back down against the shelf before tugging a card out from her wallet. maria gives the reader a quick tap, watching for that momentary beep. when it rings, she hums softly and tucks it right back in. [break][break]

her lips curl into a broader smile, and her hand quickly swaps over to pulling out a scratchpad out, with a pen between the fingers. "i'd love to see your collection~" she chimes. the cap is pulled off between her teeth, and she smoothly scribbles down her number, and a (fake) name over it. [break][break]

when it's finished, she slides the piece of paper on the counter. the same, warm smile on her lips as she tilts her head.

For yet another time throughout their interaction, he breathed a soft snicker to himself before turning his attention towards the monitor secured by him. He watched it for a second’s worth of time before turning his attention, instead, to the printer next to it. The familiar sounds of inks running their course upon the sheen of paper met his ears as the receipt produced itself, and after rolling out, he merely flicked it between his fingers to tear it from the machine.[break][break]

He offered it to her, exchanging it for the parchment offered to him with a look of amusement within his eyes.[break][break]

”...I’ll see if I can ready it for display, then~,” the store keeper hummed, swiftly folding the paper once or twice more before slipping it into one of the pockets upon his shirt. He leaned upon the counter a second time afterwards, offering yet another smile of warmth her way as he unhooked the bag carrying her book and rested it upon the surface for her to take. ”Until then, enjoy your new read, yes? Tell me what you think of it~.”

her lips of peach curl into another smile at his tone, and at the bag containing the book. ah, it takes everything in her to not express the giddiness that comes from the excitement of being able to read something new. part of her thinks it's a shame that she drove out here, because if she took the bus, she could immediately start reading it. maybe she'll drop by the restaurant to give it a good read next time, over a good meal. [break][break]

"i'll be seeing you, bleu nuit~." midnight blue still drips from his lips, and it was probably the richest she's heard in a while. no, maria hasn't gotten his name. isn't a nickname more fun?
