[attr="class","text"] Despite his normal proclivity for birds, it wasn’t feathered friends that drew him out to this particular route today. Along the water, he was more apt to find other sorts of Pokémon, and he supposed that was sort of the point. Though it still felt strange. He even had non-flying Pokémon with him, and though his shinx typically did go wherever he did, his sprigatito was very much a house cat more than anything else.[break][break]

Still, as he sat on the route out of Mauville, lazy in the grass rather than actually attempting to do any catching just yet, Lam had to admit it was pretty cute to see Clove experience the wild outdoors for largely the first time. She was used to the cityscape of Slateport at best when taken outside. So to be hopping around and tumbling through the tall grass with his shinx was a new and exciting experience.[break][break]

At least until the pair drifted a bit too far from his eye, and he had to start sifting through the foliage to find them—not exactly easy as it normally might’ve been when the sprigatito blended in so well with her surroundings.

Rosanna walked route 118 with her GRENINJA, who seemed keenly aware of their surroundings as the two walked. And rightly so, because its trainer was intently focused on her book rather than the trail ahead of them.[break][break]

"Say, do you think that if Hoenn implemented these tactics, we could—?"[break][break]

Her thoughts to her Pokemon were cut off as they came across rustling grass. Her frog-like Pokemon crouched lower in a stance, threatening to attack. She waved her hand, telling him to hold, as she approached and slowly brushed through the foliage.[break][break]

There, she saw a SPRIGATITO and a LEAFEON, blending in well into their surroundings. "Oh. Cute," she said, tilting her head. "You two look like you belong to someone."

[attr="class","text"] This duo was proving to be more mischievous together than Lam had anticipated. Usually, Clove was only spurred on into misbehaving by his more impish shinx. And Fig was typically one of his calmest companions. Or maybe they were just really, really into this hide and seek game that he hadn’t realized they’d decided to play.[break][break]

Whatever the cause, it was a relief when he popped up from practically crawling through the brush to see that a stranger had managed to stop the two truants in their tracks.[break][break]

“Ah, thanks for distracting them!” Lam chirped as he jogged over to where the young woman stood. “I don’t think I would’ve found them any time soon if you hadn’t.” The leafeon yipped in half-hearted apology, and bonked Lam in the head with his own as he stooped to scoop up the sprigatito.[break][break]

“Yeah, yeah. You’re forgiven,” he muttered to Fig–unable to keep from cracking a grin at the antics.[break][break]

He scratched under the chin of the feline in his arms as he peered around the stranger to notice the somber-looking greninja. Apologetic, his attention moved back to its trainer with a sheepish laugh. “Sorry, hope I’m not interrupting anything important.”

Rosanna lifted her head when she heard a voice, raising her eyebrows as a green-haired man came into view. She couldn't help a small snort from her nose as she looked at him reunite with his Pokemon.[break][break]

They matched. It was adorable, really.[break][break]

"Not a problem, really. We were just passing through," she offered, indicating to her GRENINJA at her side. Perseus stood taller now, more relaxed now that they weren't threatened.[break][break]

"Oh, no, I wasn't doing anything important. I was just talking about my book. I should've been paying more attention, really." Her book snapped closed as she looked between lam logan and the Pokemon.[break][break]

"They seem like they care about you a lot."[break][break]

To the side, a tall EMPOLEON waddled onto the scene. Threatening to ruin the moment, Perseus quickly attacked with a NIGHT SLASH, allowing Rosanna to toss a Poke ball at the Pokemon.

[attr="class","text"] At her suggestion of paying better attention, he waves a hand. “Ah, nah. Routes like this are good for mindless wandering.” So long as you don’t get too far off the beaten path, he supposes. But that doesn’t seem like much of an issue here.[break][break]

A wooper tumbles from the brush and Clove, eager to engage a new friend, darts forward to bat at it. Perhaps she PLAYS ROUGH just a bit too much, though, and soon Lam has to toss a pokeball toward it to spare it from the feline’s wrestling.[break][break]

His glance moves back to the young woman, and a grin brightens up his face. “You think so? I’ve been trying to work on that–’specially with the sprigatito so she doesn’t think that all I want her for is garden help.”[break][break]

It’s a good call, he thinks. Because she’s clearly thrilled to be out here on a sunny day like this one. “Reading anything good?” His hand extends toward hers in friendly greeting, “Lam.”

Rosanna raised her brows. "You think so?" Maybe she'd come along this route more often to do some mindless reading. It did seem rather peaceful, and Persesus would probably have no trouble keeping her safe.[break][break]

Speaking of... a giant WALREIN appeared from the grass, flashing its tusks in her direction. Her Pokemon took charge, attacking with another NIGHT SLASH and giving her an opportunity to throw another Poke ball while it was stunned.[break][break]

Rose offered a smile, a rare occasion especially for strangers.[break][break]

"I do. Look at her. It looks like she's really happy in your arms right now," she said, pointing at his SPRAGATITO. She remembered doing similar things when Perseus was a tiny frog.[break][break]

"Oh, just some theories on Pokemon evolution. I don't really understand much, but I like to learn..." It was a bit embarrassing, admitting that she didn't know what she was reading. "Rosanna. Nice to meet you, Lam."

[attr="class","text"] “Oh for sure,” his head nods along with his own assurance. A soft laugh follows, and he shrugs. “Then again, I enjoy being outside. So maybe my saying so comes with a grain of salt.”[break][break]

A rotom buzzes around his head, mischievous as it remains just out of reach when Lam swats half-heartedly at it, like a persistent fly.[break][break]

Fig chases after it, stopping it in its tracks with a well-placed RAZOR LEAF before it can buzz away again. Lam follows the attack with a lazily tossed pokeball before his attention returns to Rosanna. “Likewise. Can’t say I know much about evolution, but there’s nothing wrong with being a lifelong learner.”[break][break]

He could understand it, in a way. He hadn’t always been keen on the gym trainer path he was now set on. But similarly, it is an opportunity to learn more. Just in a less..textbook-y kinda way.
