It started with a text.

[break][break]Perhaps a more perceptive person would notice the differences between Ashley's newest text and his previous one, the lack of explanation, any joke or follow up would have all been warning bells. However to Naia, after finally getting back home from the mountain of work her mother left her, the message was taken at it's face value; a precious friend wanting to hang out. With an excited sticker she'd toss him a reply with speed, all the while she knocked her heels off.

[break][break]Now it was starting to creep into her mind that maybe something was wrong. It was short, sweet, yet obviously cold. Was he in the middle of something? Maybe his hands were busy and he was just trying to get the message across. No matter the reason, the build faith Naia had in him never let her doubt the intention. So with the best of her capabilities she'd get herself as dressed as quickly as she could, only pausing to consider wearing a bathing suit underneath, only to dismiss it due to it being later in day. She doubt that any of them wanted to swim in the dark.

[break][break]It was on her way out of her home, after tapping her tip of her shoes she'd fire off another text.

[break][break]Another playful sticker attached, and yet another quick and straightforward response from him.

[break][break]Coffee. It was the first thought that came to Naia's mind, and unsurprisingly she practically knew every coffee shop within slateport, especially any one of them that were on the way to the beach. So with Ashley he wouldn't have had to wait long for Naia to be out of the door, into her drivers car and have her in and out of the nearest café with a cup in each hand. An inherent womanly ability to balance some packets of sugar between her fingers after she remembered Ashley putting sugar into his coffee.

[break][break]However what she thought was supposed to be a quick jog turned into more of a struggle than she considered. Colie, her Zorua, had previously met with Ashley before and Naia figured she'd love to see him again, but now she needed to deal with her Zorua's enthusiasm. The way the little fox excited yapped at Naia as if they were giving tales of how much they looked forward to this reunion, and spun around her feet it made their travels far slower than estimated.

He didn't know what came over him, these days. After the twenty year long single day mission he had, it was a vacancy in his heart. What was left was a hole inside of him, to come back to this same organization, this same conflict, this same hell that had him flee Kanto. The whole dream... it felt like a dream now, he chased, and yet it was nowhere. Galar was elsewhere, a figment of reality in his heart and soul. If he had stayed the path, stayed away from Rocket here in Hoenn, he would have been happy.[break][break]

A twenty year hypothesis that led to a completion of a correct theory that now was just that; theoretical.[break][break]

So true is the fact that he could be pulled back into it. Yet, he didn't want to be here anymore. In Rocket. In Hoenn. In the middle of this war. Walsh was a fucker. And the rest of the bloody-red R were flooded with them. Bastards, hidden behind every one of them.[break][break]

It took him awhile to get out of bed. Longer still to tell kepler brueshaber he was going on a walk to the beach. He promised he'd take his phone. He'd be just a little, but... he needed to talk to someone. They'd need to go to therapy together, really, but... he needed the walk at night.[break][break]

Twenty years wiser, he texts. Yet weakly, he thinks it over. Cocoa was at his heels, having only just seen him the other day, worried now, with a just-as-worried Law, the little Kubfu and the Hisuian Zorua chasing after him.[break][break]

When he sees her, it's like seeing a ghost. A phantom of the times long past. "Been awhile." Silver eyes look vacant. He looks vacant. He IS vacant.[break][break]

Twenty years of time of an absence led him to accept he'd never see them again, yet it felt like a far-off dream now. But he doesn't look okay. He doesn't seem okay, and with the Kubfu and Zorua popping out, Cocoa shows happiness towards her friend, Colie. Law is just... worried still, hiding behind his leg.[break][break]

"Haven't aged a day."[break][break]

Forty-five year old Ashley inside the head of twenty-five year old Ashley. Of course that was his first question. She hadn't aged at all.
