their walk steers them to a local DUGTRIO-RING-TOSS stall. it goes without question that fernando sponsors their tickets.

“have a lot of people met you as their hero, lopez?”

there’s no need for him to close one eye to aim. he’s already built that way. however, it doesn’t alleviate the fact that his ring doesn’t land perfectly. his aim is as true as his pokeball throw, unfortunately battles don’t rely on pokeballs landing from a vertical drop.

FERNANDO TOSSES ANOTHER. this time he mimics the motion of kyle’s wrist. again, it falls flat. well, quite the opposite since that would lead to his win.

he throws a few more out in rapid succession. only two of them land, losing him the overall challenge but earning him a consolation prize.

“i assume you’re trying to stay under wraps then?”

naturally, he picks out a small poochyena keychain stylized after their champion: kyle lopez.

NATURALLY, he has no need for the charm. trinkets and other decore amount to little more than junk. which is why his home, gym, and office reeks of a minimalist that’s so bare it borders psychotic.

as two of the tallest men in hoenn, the pond seems far beyond their reach. the rim sits at their shins but even that is far too low for such strapping and buff characters. thankfully, they’re also flexible since they are adequate or better in all aspects.

his eye scans over the idle kois.

“and no, 37.5 is not a valid answer.”

fernando ponders for a moment, taking his time to consider, and finally answers, “five.”

a child, who participates as well, pisses themselves from waiting for his answer. but what they cry about isn’t the warm liquid running down their leg. no, it’s that the carnie is too kind in letting fernando take his time to answer. a tantrum that, while humorous, outstays its welcome as does the child.

which, in their defense, may have some validity. after all, fernando lands the correct guess.
