Perhaps he’s rubbed off on her, or perhaps she starting to learn her delicate place amongst the upper echelon of The League. Or maybe, she’s just too tired to fight his stubborn nature. Regardless of the reason, in a surprising turn of events, she submits without a fight. The professor forgoes her hero complex for the sake of the team. She’s more useful collecting artifacts and healing than she would be straining against the violence of this place.

Eva sweeps in behind him with an actual gust of wind that curls around them like a ribbon. She stands close, her fingertips hovering over the small of his back. Her voice carries on the wind that brushes softly against his ears, “If it becomes too much . . . I’m here.”

Eva can’t decide if it’s confidence in her presence or his own dangerous arrogance that fuels his assurance, and there’s not enough time to parse through the details to figure it out if she even cared to. The faster she found what she was looking for, the sooner she could usher them out of this dangerous world.

The professor moves forward towards the mining operation, tethering herself to him in spirit. She wastes no time digging through the rubble to separate stone from artifact. Her stomach curls, empty and uncomfortable with the sight of his SYGNA SUIT stained purple when she looks back with unmistakable worry etched into her hardened expression. It’s hard for her to not feel selfish prioritizing mining over him, but she knows him well enough to be aware that he flourishes under the duress of purpose. It’s a quality they both share.

But what?

Eva has so many things in this strange world, horrors she thought were impossible. The manifestation of abhorrent amalgamations of pokemon and fears made real. In a haste, she collects her curios, gripping her prize tightly as if it will keep her grounded.

She doesn’t expect what manifests from the amethyst ooze. Was it her own insecurities, or perhaps something subconscious in Fernando that manifested his brother, MATIAS SILPH.

But he isn’t himself, he is a titan much like his patron. His primal marking pulse like a heart beat and his familiar eyes are lost in a red fury. Eva doesn’t plan to stick around to find out the answer to whose nightmare this is.

A gust of DELTA STREAM subdues him momentarily, giving Eva enough time to run back to Fernando.

“Fernando,” she grips his arm with her free hand, a firm but gentle guide, “It’s time to go.”

There’s a moment of hesitation when he instructs her to take point, that he would hold off the illusion. But it’s fleeting. Hesitation and distrust could lead to a fatal mistake. She trusts Fernando, so she leave the Silph with Matias’s double and uses the break she’s granted to hurry off to the portal, CURIO in hand.

She left him once, and it was a mistake. A foreign sense of worry festers like burn in the pit of her stomach, amplified by the adrenaline and something else. It manifests in the white knuckle grip she has around the Curio they managed to pilfer from the savage world as she waited just outside the violent glow of the portal.

She holds her breath, eyes wide, focused, stinging. The tension shatters with the echo of shifting space when he manages to slip through. Relief melts her into a step forward, "Yeah, you?" a brief once over gives her a sense of his physical well-being but the radiation could leave mental scars she couldn't assess so easily especially with taking the entirety of it alone. She offers him a hand, "C'mon. Let's get you checked out."
