[break][break] there were others that ollie could have chosen to awaken. could've asked anyone else on their team to join him in his nighttime adventures, but it was caleb that he'd chosen to bother. that he wanted to bother.

[break][break] he grins boyishly in the dark.

[break][break] "i wanna sneak into the kitchen. wanna come with me? i wanna grab a snack."

[attr="class","body"] emerald green widened briefly before narrowing playfully.

[break][break] "why, you little..."

[break][break] he leaped out of the room right after him, which led into a very long hallway. it was dark, only lit up by some of the open windows down the hallway. the window panels streaked with moonlight, casting spotlight upon the floor, and ollie hastened himself into a run in an attempt to catch up with the taller boy.

[break][break] ollie was by no means short, however Caleb Harcourt was definitely tall. he was one of the tallest boys in his class, popular and handsome as he was. it made ollie proud to know that his teammate was such a cool person, even though sometimes he was a little sour knowing that caleb probably made a better forward because of it.

[break][break] "watch out, harcourt! i'm gonna win!"

[break][break] he increased his stride across the wooden panel, an attempt to beat his friend at the glimmering light at the end of the tunnel. in a last-ditch effort, he focused his strength into his feet and then made a fantastic leap.

[attr="class","body"] though he hid it behind a sunny demeanor, the secret was that ollie was secretly competitive. he had grown up with brothers — he had no choice but to be. so when he leaps for the finish line, there's no thought behind it. no thought except to win.

[break][break] he doesn't think far enough ahead. not until green eyes widen at the sight of his body colliding with Caleb Harcourt's and the two went tumbling into the floor and into a massive heap on the ground.

[break][break] ollie huffed, a deep laugh echoing from his chest.

[break][break] "nice? i don't know about..." his eyes flickered, realizing suddenly how close their faces were. his heart thumped rapidly in his chest. when had caleb gotten so close? "... that."

[break][break] when had caleb gotten so handsome?

[break][break] when the other boy leans close, heat spreads through ollie's cheeks. his eyes widen.

[break][break] their lips brush against each other's briefly, before suddenly, a loud noise slams ahead and a flashlight gleams in the darkness.

[break][break] 'hey! who's there?'

[break][break] "shit," ollie mutters, grappling out of caleb's grip and then leaping to his feet. he reaches for caleb's elbow too, his expression urgent. "c'mon! we can hide in here!"

[break][break] without waiting, he tugs the other into the nearest room, which just so happened to be the kitchen.

[break][break] once inside, ollie flattens himself against the wall, pressing his ear to the door. the pitter-patter of the teacher's footsteps eventually disappate, and he lets out a sigh of relief.

[break][break] "oof. that was close."

[break][break] he turns to look at caleb, lips spread into a sheepish grin.

[attr="class","body"] ollie was glad that it was dark. that way Caleb Harcourt wouldn't be able to see the blush on his cheeks that was quickly fading as the moments passed.

[break][break] "oh! yeah, you'll love this."

[break][break] the blond reached for him then, leaning forward only to grab caleb's wrist and tug him gently deeper into the kitchen, away from the doorway and it's dangerous sounds. instead, the kitchen's interior was dead quiet. ollie didn't go to flick on any lights, and the only other light in the room was a dull flickering light that probably looked like it should've turned off. the teenager instead skirted around the island table over to where there was a set of cabinets, letting go of caleb's hand to pull it open.

[break][break] with a swoosh.

[break][break] ollie coughed as a cloud of dust came out, kneeling down to rummage around the interior. after a moment though, ollie leapt with a victorious grin —

[break][break] in his hand, a bottle of wine.

[break][break] "i saw the coaches tuck this away when we were getting ready for bed. looks like there's still some left." ollie's eyes glimmered mischievously. "wanna try some?"

[attr="class","body"] "we could try," ollie said, grinning wolfishly.

[break][break] ollie looked around and then seated himself on the counter. he took a swig of it, wincing too — it wasn't exactly good but it would do for now. heat hummed beneath his skin as he handed it back to his friend, sparks brushing along his fingers wherever they touched.

[break][break] "we should play a game."

[break][break] "how about never have i ever?"

[attr="class","body"] warm breath in his ear send a slight shudder down his spine, warming his skin. he looked back at caleb with bright eyes, unable to stop the way that his lips stretched wide and mirrored that grin.

[break][break] "hey! that's no fair, i told you that story in confidence."

[break][break] he was, of course, referring to the first time that he'd drank with his brothers. they'd rushed him into the kitchen when pa wasn't looking, and cracked a beer for him.

[break][break] "wait. you said wine, not beer." he snickered.

[break][break] maybe it wasn't a loss after all.

[break][break] "ok, never have i skipped practice cause i had a stomache ache."
