Night starts to fall on the festivities.[break][break]

But it's far from over! Instead, it just means that lights strung up on stalls and coming from the rides start to turn on. A twinkling rainbow in the sea of fried foods and fun.[break][break]

Temp does, at some point, track down his husband.[break][break]

Even when they're both in disguise, Temp would know him anywhere.[break][break]

"Finn!" The fake name feels wrong on his tongue. But it is a warning before Temp tries to slip his hand into the other's. A caramel apple on a stick, tacky and fresh and smelling of sugar, is offered to the other.[break][break]

"I'm glad I caught up with you. Want to ride the Ferris wheel with me?"[break][break]

Temp hadn't originally wanted to come out today. Too lost in the mire of sadness. But he had gently shooed Cillian out the door to go have fun with jayden cross and Naomi Sato.[break][break]

It had been some ache that had seen him coming later, on his own. A desire for company. To not be alone.[break][break]

jayden cross and Naomi Sato have already gone home for the night; Cillian had opted to stay behind. The carnival shifts and changes around him, streetlights blooming amidst the colourful lights from the rides. He ignores it all, instead choosing to walk along Slateport's docks and stare out over the ocean. For all it frightened him, it brought a strange sense of comfort in Lugia's name.[break][break]

It's there that Tempest Quinn finds him, and he recognizes his husband's voice even if the name from his lips is strange.[break][break]

Turning, a warm smile breaks through Cillian's melancholy like the sun through a stormcloud, brightening his golden gaze.[break][break]

"Thought you wanted to stay home."[break][break]

He'd invited his husband, of course, but hadn't been surprised nor disappointed when Temp had declined. They were dealing with their grief in whatever ways they could, and it was not always together. Yet the relief is apparent in Cil's expression.[break][break]

Though the lines around his eyes are not so prominent as they'd be twenty years from now, they crinkle all the same.[break][break]

"Of course. I'd love to."[break][break]

Careful to maneuver the accepted apple after taking a bite, he wraps his arms around his husband in a grateful embrace, drawing in his scent.

"Changed my mind." There was a softness in Temp's eyes, a vulnerability only the two of them would understand. Being here with people Temp wasn't interested in was somehow worse than being alone without Cillian Quinn. He wanted to be with his partner more than he wanted to be alone and mire in his own sadness.[break][break]

Temp rests his head on the other's shoulder. Tugs Cil's hand over to take a bite of the apple where his husband had already exposed the more fleshy insides. Never one for sweets, after all.[break][break]

"The fireworks should be starting soon, too." There was a tiny spark of something in Temp's eyes. Perhaps some sort of plan.[break][break]

But that was for later.[break][break]

A sticky kiss is pressed to the other's lips.[break][break]

"Want to win each other a prize on the way?"

Though he cared deeply for those whose company he'd shared before, there was no comfort like that of his husband's arms around him. Even broken as they were by loss and change, their relationship held firm.[break][break]

Many relationships didn't survive the death of a child.[break][break]

Theirs would. It had. It would survive anything.[break][break]

When he pulls away from the hug, Cillian still keeps one hand entwined with his lover's. He feels almost like a giddy teenager on a date with their crush, butterflies swirling in his chest as they walk around.[break][break]

"Sure. What about the ring-toss?"[break][break]

The DUGTRIO RING TOSS was simple enough in concept, though much more difficult than it looked on account of the Dugtrio ducking out of the way of the rings. You had to be swift and decision in your tosses, and unfortunately for Cillian his reflexes had become largely reliant on a supernatural force he couldn't very well display in a public carnival.[break][break]

He loses, predictably, dissatisfaction creasing his frown.[break][break]

"Maybe you'll have better luck."

Cillian Quinn tosses rings and Temp eyes the prizes along the wall. Were any of these good ones to even try for?[break][break]

Then his eyes sink down tot he Dugtrio. They look very... determined. This feels more rigged than it had before. Temp gives out a small huff, handing over his ticket to try anyway.[break][break]

Temp misses every ring except for one. It's not one of the large prizes like he had expected, but he picks up a small key-chain with a Luvdisc charm on the end.[break][break]

Temp passes it over to Cil's hand, pleased with himself.[break][break]

"That can be your stand-in prize till I get you a good one." Is promised with a wink.

Tempest Quinn's vain efforts prove that the odds are stacked against them, though he clutches a small prize at the end with a lucky throw. The attendant makes a big deal about it, no doubt paid to do so.[break][break]

Cil ignores him, having eyes only for his husband as a small charm is pressed into his palm. He smiles.[break][break]

"Thanks, love."[break][break]

Leaning close to kiss his husband on the cheek, denying deeper displays of affection in a place full of children, he loops the chain around his neck. It's small, thin, clearly meant for a child, but it fits enough not to choke him, the Luvdisc settling below the groove in his collarbone.[break][break]

His gaze drifts, settling on the MAGIKARP FISHING game.[break][break]

"I'm better at that," he declares, tugging Temp over. It was far more a game about patience than reflex, and Rocket has taught him patience in spades.[break][break]

Sure enough, the bored-looking carnie is forced to hand over a prize as Cillian pulls up a wriggling orange fish. It's not the golden one he'd wanted, for which the prize was a Gyarados plushie twice the size of him, but it was enough to earn something.[break][break]

Grinning, Cillian plucks a Luvdisc plushie from the pool instead. It might be an unpopular choice among many, but it meant something to them.

The prizes are cute. Temp gives a small laugh as he watches Cil get to work, knelt down next to the small pool of water with his little paper catcher....[break][break]

It's so cute to see Cillian relax and do silly little things like this.[break][break]

So cute that, when Temp is offered his own catcher, he just dips it in the water and becomes distracted by how hard the other concentrates. When Temp finally realizes when he's done, his paper much too soaked and soft to catch much of anything; though, to be fair, Temp would have probably lost a test of patience even without the welcome distraction of his husband.[break][break]

He accepts the Luvdisc, eyes soft as a small laugh ripples from his lips, and holds it tight to his chest like a teenager might after winning a prize.[break][break]

In truth, no one had ever done something like this for him before. It was sweet.[break][break]

But, Temp blinks, out of trance, and pulls out his phone to check the time.[break][break]

"I think we have time for another game. I saw a booth with a really lopsided Lugia plushie earlier. Let's try and win it." Temp grins and laughs, already imagining the proud Shadow pokemon next to her plush likeness.

Cillian laughs at the thought of presenting Lugia with the prize.[break][break]

"Oh, she'd hate that."[break][break]

Lugia was a queen, perfection the only reflection worthy of her image. More than that, he imagined she despised the reminder of what she'd been before the Nihilego had corrupted her image with shadow.[break][break]

Still, he acquiesces to the idea with amusement in his eyes.[break][break]

The booth turns out to be a collection of prizes pertaining to a nearby TUG-OF-WAR contest. Cillian's eyes gleam.[break][break]

"Oh, we'll fucking destroy this," he says with a grin, tracing his fingers along his husband's muscled arm. "Let's do it."

"Think we could get one picture before she destroys it? Like, if we're quick?" Amusement in his tone, Temp tried his best to imagine what hell their hard won prize would endure. Honestly, it would be worth the effort just for that one small moment of glee.[break][break]

Also, it would be wicked cute.[break][break]

The tug of war had a few people giving it a try already. He and Cillian Quinn have to wait their turn. They get the amusing show of a teenager trying, and failing, at winning a girl a prize; the teenager does so badly that he falls forward and into a wet spot on the ground, covering his clothes with filth.[break][break]

Temp snorts.[break][break]

There is the brief thought, when it's there turn, to sidle up behind Cillian and wrap his arms around his middle before grabbing the rope. That won't win them any prizes, though. Tempest will just have to do it later.[break][break]

Between the two of them, it's an easy win at least.

"She'd probably eat the camera." He's smiling again. They'd needed this. "Or whoever's holding it."[break][break]

In truth, he doesn't think Lugia will care enough to spare such thought toward an imperfect idol, but it's fun to laugh about. It's fun to laugh at all, the sound light in his throat.[break][break]

Their opponents could hardly hope to match two seasoned Rockets with Temp's skills as a personal trainer befitting them both, so a few hard tugs of the rope bring the other team to their knees.[break][break]

He cuts the line for the prizes with a brief burst of speed from his MIASMA, ensuring that they'll get their hands on the lopsided Lugia plushie before any of the children can take a shine to it. He's both surprised and delighted to find that there's a SHADOW variant. It sticks out like a sore thumb among a sea of white.[break][break]

"You sure you want that one?"[break][break]

Cillian's eyes gleam as he smirks. "Positive."

Cillian Quinn speeds to the front of the line and Temp has to bite his lip to keep from laughing.[break][break]

Cillian Quinn, one of the most wanted men in Hoenn (possibly also the world and across multiple universes) was adorable.[break][break]

While Cil picks his prize, Tempest watches with wholly undisguised love and affection in his eyes. A soft and dreamy sigh leaves him. There were so many little things about Cillian; and Temp knew he was very lucky to see this side of the blond.[break][break]

The prize clerk gets his attention and Temp peeks at the prizes; the Shadow Lugia plushie had been the main draw so it left many choices. Yet, hidden behind a row of plush Dragonite, one sad looking plush catches his eye. Temp points it out when Cil isn't looking, poorly hiding it behind his back.[break][break]

Then he approaches the other again.[break][break]

"We should go get in line for the Ferris Wheel." It was almost time for the big show.[break][break]

But, still grinning, he glances down at Cil's prize.[break][break]

"She doesn't look enough like a rubber duckie." Absolute blasphemy out of his mouth.

Though Cillian may have had his back turned when Tempest Quinn selected his prize, he is quick enough to notice the poor attempt to conceal his antics. Rather than demand answers, Cillian only arches a brow and smiles as he holds out the Lugia plushie.[break][break]

"I'll let you do the honours," he says sagely, as if it were some great right of pilgrimage. His eyes dance with mirth.[break][break]

They join the line for the Ferris wheel, and Cillian leans against the metal barrier of the queue as they wait for their turn to be seated. The wheel shines with many brilliant colours, doubtless attracting attention from afar, but those lights dim in anticipation of the upcoming fireworks show. Nothing could be allowed to take away from the night's final splendour.[break][break]

"I've never ridden a Ferris Wheel before," Cil confesses softly, as they slide into their seats.[break][break]

Yet another first that Tempest Quinn was blessed with.

With one arm occupied, Temp takes the duty of the Lugia Plushie with one hand.[break][break]

His eyes sparkle with amusement as he snorts out a soft laugh.[break][break]

"In a few days time if I suddenly vanish, you'll know what happened to me." Is teased.[break][break]

But, in Cillian Quinn's now empty hands, Temp places a Cradily plush. It's a little worse for wear, much like any other carnival plush, but it still looks up at Cil with cute and shiny plastic eyes.[break][break]

"Something to remember me by." A wink is given.[break][break]

They head to wait in line. It's slow going, the Ferris Wheel a popular destination for couples. When they get around the front, Temp waves to the guy running the machine and he gives a thumbs up.[break][break]

"Hm, I've only ridden them a few times. I threw up on a guy as he was trying to take my dick out of my pants on one, once." Temp was not shy about his salacious history. If Cil didn't mind Tempest's whore past that was all that mattered. "I promise not to do the same to you." A brief chuckle and a wink.

Something softens in Cillian's steel-sharp gaze when the Cradily is pressed into his hands. You remembered. It was an insignificant detail in comparison to the cataclysm's they'd faced together, but it was so undeniably wholesome all the same.[break][break]

Cil doesn't think anything of the little wave; Temp knew plenty of people.[break][break]

Nor does he think anything of his husband's passing comment; though incredibly jealous in nature, he has never resented Temp for his past. If anything, to learn of prior experiences only sparks his competitive side. A challenge to overcome. The wheel jerks as it begins to move, allowing the next empty cart to be filled.[break][break]

Setting the Cradily plush carefully on the seat, Cillian gets on his knees and smirks up at his lover.[break][break]

"Better keep that promise, love."[break][break]

He goes for the zipper with his teeth.
