From the quiet dripping of water to the uneasy echoes that haunt these caves, she tries to sink further into her book, keeping her thoughts so close to her chest that it... actually does hurt a little to breathe.[break][break]

The flaring sting of her lungs gets her to look at Reiner, the Luxray raising his head from the ground to meet her gaze. They'd been told to come here without much context but since it had been a request from John Sullivan, she didn't exactly want to ignore him. And yet, the longer she sits on the ground waiting, the more she begins to think she's been pranked.[break][break]

Just another 5 minutes. She'll give him just that much time before she goes.

Right at around the time he had instructed her to come, hopefully familiar steps echoed through the rocky halls of the cavern.

Suddenly, Doug's head leaned out of a corner, quickly noticing Eris and grinning.

"Pssst. Psssssst." He... generated with his vocal chords, a manic smile on his lips. "Hey kid! You won't believe who I brought with me."

He made no move to approach beyond the borders of the corner. Should Eris' curiosity get the better of her and bring her closer, however...

She would find him carrying... quite the curious little cargo indeed in his arms.

With his head right around the corner, she's forced to look up, slowly pushing to her feet and shaking the numbness out. What's with that smile he has? Who in the world could he have brought to their meeting?[break][break]

Could it be Ch-[break][break]

She turns the corner. The hope fades from her eyes rather quickly, a frown tugging at her lips as she tries to piece together just who he has there. If that isn't enough for him to start explaining, her backpack begins squealing, a shadowy claw hooking to the sides as a Mimikyu pops their head right out with an overwhelming wave of excitement. Reiner, on the other hand, seems rather uneasy, tensing up almost as if readying himself to grab the little ghost at any moment.

The tiny bundle of sleep snored softly as he brought it closer to Eris.

"Guess who, Eris?" He said with a broad grin. "Hint: When you wish upon a star...~"

Her gaze flutters over the sleeping bundle before sharply flicking up. Is he joking? No, he really wouldn't be making such jokes about this, especially not with her. Her frown melts away, a hand gingerly stretched out to try and give the wishmaker a pat on the head. If only the Mimikyu wasn't busy squealing and clapping their shadowy claws together, nearly tumbling right out of her backpack in their excitement to greet Jirachi.[break][break]

Reiner sighs, catching his very own little bundle of trouble on his head and bringing them closer. But even his sense of responsibility won't be enough to hide the curiosity he has himself, his nostrils flaring up as he sniffs the air.

Jirachi's soft snores didn't cease even as Eris pet the little God, his sleep seemingly unshakeable.

"Say hello, Jirachi..." He said in a low whisper, to which the little god most definitely did not respond. He gave Eris a wry grin and a shrug, dropping his bum on the ground and gathering his legs under himself.

"He sleeps a lot." He said with a shrug. "This is my first time being on the distinguished, AQUA-only duty of Jirachi-babysitting, but I was given the rundown."

He grinned at Eris.

"Thought you might wanna meet him."

She watches closely as Mesprit reaches over to tap Jirachi on the head, seeds of a tantrum beginning to grow with each passing second. From what she's learnt over the past few months with them, the pixie really doesn't take kindly to being ignored, petulant in every sense until something new hooked them in.[break][break]

'Babysitting? Why do they sleep a lot?' Quick hand signs take the place of words, and she'll follow suit in making herself comfortable on the ground. For a moment she stops, glancing down at her hands as she tries her best to remember the universal sign for cave. But a mere frown will indicate her giving up, her next sentence instead condensed into a questioning look.[break][break]

Why are they babysitting in a cave of all places?

Jirachi remained asleep and ever peaceful despite Mesprit's mountain discontent, unaware of the distress his freaking sleeping was apparently causing to those around him.

Meanwhile... Doug stared blankly at Eris as she mimed at him. He vaguely recognized these as what some knew as sign language— a very high level skill (in his opinion) that generally required keeping a translator handy just to make sure everyone was on the same page.

To which Doug replied by casually pulling out his phone and texting Eris.

Bug.Net: Hi Eris! Sorry, I don't know hand signals. What's up~?

And how quick the pixie is to abandon Jirachi, snatching the packet away from the Luxray and crunching down without a second thought.[break][break]

The cave is filled with endless crackling, the pings of John Sullivan's messages nearly drowned out as Eris pulls her phone out to check. And she'll look from the screen up to him with a smile, before going back to retyping everything.[break][break]

Why do they sleep so much? And why are we babysitting them in a cave?

He has no clue of the sort of disaster that Reiner's quick thinking has narrowly averted.

He hums thoughtfully instead whilst staring at her text.

"I'm not really sure why he sleeps so much, actually." He said, raising Jirachi's sleeping form up to stare at him, cocking his head. "I could run some standard tests on him for insomnia or narcolepsy..."

He paused, before snickering.

"Doubt that would help, though. The explanation I got was that he was 'resting' after expending too much power before." He explained, slowly bringing back Jirachi to the craddle of his arm.

"As for why we're here—" He said, looking around carefully (and exaggeratedly), before turning a grin to her. "Can't just bring him out in the open anywhere, ya know? That's just asking for trouble."

The pack of popping candy crunches in Mesprit's grip, more poured into their mouth as the ceaseless crackling echoes through the cave. Though Eris sighs at the noise, she'll dare to reach over for the packet, stealing a pinch for herself and eating it before Mesprit can toss her upsidedown.[break][break]

'To grant a wish? Or defend Hoenn?'[break][break]

Her nails click against a cracked glass screen. That's about the only reasons she can come up with off the top of her head. For all she knows, the two are one and the same. But she might not get anymore answers, and she'll most certainly have no more questions about their choice of location after a bit of consideration. Instead, she sits for a moment to observe Jirachi, occasionally glancing at Mesprit as a thought brews.[break][break]

'Can't you heal it? Or maybe transferring infinity energy might help wake it up?'

"I'm told someone was trying to resurrect the dead." He said. "But Jirachi had been sleeping even then, so he was forced awake to do so. The wish failed, and Jirachi went back to sleep."

So basically— do not force Jirachi to make wishes, or things will go wrong. Duly noted.

He glanced back at his phone at Eris' latest message, humming.

"No can do... I don't think so anyway." He said, looking over Jirachi with a fresher eye briefly before shrugging his shoulders. "There's no injuries to heal, and there's no way to be sure if it's safe to transfer energy."

He smiled down at the little god, gently rubbing at its chin.

"There's no reason to go for such a thing anyway." He said, his eye twinkling as he gave Eris a grin. "I'm told he wakes up all on his own... sometimes."

Maybe they would get lucky today.

Shaking her head clear of the thought, she wonders just why he grins at her so. Is it he believes in their luck? If he's really banking on it, she's way short of any reserves. If she truly had any, Chu-e Choi would still be with her, wouldn't he?[break][break]

'Maybe.' comes the text.[break][break]

A frown will take her down, her fingers fidgeting with her phone as she leans back against the cave wall. Jutting rocks and dips make for a rather nasty backrest, but she feels a little too tired to think about comfort. The ceiling is lost in shadows, the lustre of any stars high above probably swallowed up by the earth. And yet, hidden deep in the bowels of the earth and away from prying eyes, she feels just that bit lighter losing herself in pointless staring as water drips from the stalactites above.

Carefully, he moved to take a seat besides Eris, resting his back against the ungodly uncomfortable wall of rocks whilst carefully cradling Jirachi, waiting for their little miracle to occur.
