As much as Shalin didn't want to, she felt she had little choice but to be on the front lines. With what happened to Alex and his apparent, yet rational, rational fear of the deep, she would be the one to protect him this time. If she had her way, it would be every time going forward. "I brought a couple different Pokémon this time," Shalin started, unable to finish voicing her thought as the familiar hum of vibrating fists assaulted the air around them. This time, it wasn't just her Kommo-o; a Seismitoad joined the fighting-type, the corners of a saddle on its back covering the four bumps known to be the source of the amphibian's seismic shocks. Unlike Kommo-o, Bass Boost's species was well known for fierce and furious vibration. How in the world did the saddle stay on the ugly-looking Pokémon, anyway?

Shalin's Flygon was also present, powering the Sygna Suit shielding both herself and Alex from the core's intense radiation. "Keep your eyes out, Lathiel," she warned the Type: Null. "They're coming any moment, and I can't imagine they'll be just as unprepared as they were before." She was right, too; a bark from Lathiel drew attention to the Naganadel gathering in greater numbers than they did before.

They were coming in great numbers, too: wave after wave of Nihilego, with no end in sight. Had the Ultra Beasts really multiplied so much? "This is... really bad, Alex. I think I'm gonna need to pull some of my Pokémon away. All of them except--" She was cut off by the loud rumbling of Bass Boost's madly-vibrating fists against the rock, the shaking strong enough to create a localized tremor around them all.

"Lathiel, front and center! We're going in together!" Shalin cried, vaulting herself aboard Treble. Even the blue frog felt the need to abandon her mining post and join the battle, raising her arms toward the oncoming Ultra Beasts and shaking every bump on her body as hard as she could. The resulting SUPERSONIC attack raked at the poison-types' hearing organs as the saddle on the Seismitoad's back appeared to waver like a mirage during the water-type's sonic assault. How was that seat on Bass Boost's back still intact and in working order anyway?!

Lathiel, having a specific Nihilego in mind, broke rank to slice and dice several of the floating Pokémon to pieces. What a blunder that was; though their ranks were culled by the Ultra Beasts turning on one another, the ones that remained were truly dangerous, BEAST BOOSTED to the maximum. One touch from the tentacles of the energized Nihilego could be lethal. "Lathiel, we need backup!" Shalin cried, Treble tensing in preparation to unleash a devastating sonic attack of his own.

Backup would not be coming; the Type: Null was fixated on taking down what she thought was the leader. While the Ultra Beast killer's CRUSH CLAW was enough to take down one, a BEAST BOOSTED POWER GEM from another felled the Type: Null in a single blow. Though the Lucario's barrage of AURA SPHERES would help repel some of them, Shalin's greatest weapon against the Ultra Beasts was out of commission.

This may have been the first time Alex had seen Shalin truly upset, fighting with everything she had. Gripping her Kommo-o's reins and his scaled back as tightly as she could, she screamed an order for CLANGING SCALES. It was the only warning Alex was going to get to cover his ears.

The tan dragon-type's body, along with Shalin's, turned into a blur as every scale on his body started vibrating so fast and hard that the dissonance of the clanging treble and the humming bass split the rock beneath them. The rumbling was so intense that even Alex may have been able to feel the very air around him shuddering. The remainder of the Nihilego fell with ease, but at what cost? Even wearing her suit, that vibration was numbingly strong. She weakly waved to Alex, lacking her typical energy after being wildly shaken around by her Pokémon. Was that too much even for her?

Even with her Sygna Suit, Treble's vibration rocked the brave rider. While the run wasn't as high-frequency as with her Sygna Pokémon's wings, the rattling scales' sheer power more than made up for it. She loved a good rumble on the dragon's back, but that was too much even for her. She dizzily took Alex's hand, sliding down Treble's back and stumbling to her knees upon landing. "His power is awesome..." she said, her words somewhat slurred as she came down from her adrenaline high. "...but I'll conquer it. One day."

Little did they know there would be something even more difficult to conquer than a scaled dragon madly shaking Shalin about like a maraca...

If whatever Alex was afraid of was so bad that he was urging Shalin to flee at top speed, it must have been really bad. Every pore beneath her skin was still tingling from Treble rocking her. Thankfully, she had recovered the strength to stand - and to hop onto one of her Pokémon again. She was about to lose her sense of touch again as she fled; all of her Pokémon that were fast enough to escape flew by buzzing. Still, what choice did she have?

"Not gonna say no!" Shalin cried as she donned her earplugs, withdrew the rest of her Pokémon, and sat astride Flit, her Yanmega. "Make it back safely with at least some ore, okay?!" she shouted loudly enough for Alex to hear before the noise of droning Yanmega wings drowned out everything else around her. The Ranger took off, SPEED BOOSTing toward the rift's exit back to Dewford.
