He hadn't really seen the scientist since the METENO raids, having met with her in the labs to discuss his strange revival from the dead. He remembered nothing wrong with him except his own perception of himself and a strange refresh of his body. Not better. Not stronger. Just. Refreshed. The same reset from zero. [break][break]

It'd been months, and with his work with PENELOPE LIVY and Gunner Graves with the Council and HBIC, he hadn't had much time for his own research. Factor in things like Genevieve Cromwell 's training, who he had asked to keep quiet in order to avoid more ranger cadets seeking him out, and he'd had no time for himself. [break][break]

And beyond a work colleague, he liked to consider the brilliant woman a...friendly acquaintance. Perhaps not exactly friends due to simply not interacting that much, but he felt comfortable enough to talk to her about his own crack pot theories on pokemon, and more importantly, ask her out to the carnival. [break][break]

Frankly, he'd gotten extra tickets to go and he didn't want to go alone. But also he knew that woman was particularly stubborn, and seemed especially hermit like in her life style. And from one sick hermit to another, that wasn't the way to live. So he'd extended this invite with the perfect excuse: carnival is only around for so long. If they didn't go now, they never would. So he waited for her, sitting by some sort of bumper card ride and sending her a pin of his location.

[attr="class","illeana i"]in a way, she's almost thankful for the invitation - it's an excuse to leave the house without burden weighing the body down. a day off is welcome, greedily needed even, and she cannot find any reasons to not accept.

it's how she finds herself approaching the familiar face with a small smile. movements are tentative, as if she's still uncertain of her own arrival and in a way, she might be.

"paxton."

her voice carries despite the whooping cheers floating around them from the bumper cars ride. with it, her smile grows a little wider. she slides to a stop in front of him, hands idly fiddling with rings adorning her fingers.

"it's been a while - i hope you've been well?"

well enough to extend a carnival invitation, at least... it speaks of its own makeshift answer.

"Illie." he greeted, lifting his sunglasses so he can get a better look at her. He gives a quick once over before smiling at her. "Good to see you didn't puncture anything with that moving rib." he said. The last time he'd seen her she'd been working without a full recovery. [break][break]

Oh what, he barely remembered anymore, but he had thought it an unnecessary risk either way. [break][break]

"Yeah, just peachy." he said. As good as anybody could be after POSTDORM and whatever else crazy shit had been dropped on his desk. Thankfully, he'd made it out of most situations unscathed. [break][break]

"Hungry? Or wanna let off some steam?" he said, though he was already leading the way for a quick car ride. "Nothing lie ka little adrenaline to start the day off right." he added, pulling out some ticket stubs and handing them to her.

"yeah, i'm still kickin' surprisingly."

much to the chagrin of most, she's certain.

"i'm glad to hear you're doing well, though. have you been staying busy with everything going on lately?"

what does his schedule look like now that the region has a false sense of security? is it still jam-packed or does he have more downtime? somehow, she hopes for busy if only to not have to swallow down jealousy over free time.

the mention of food, while enticing, doesn't quite bring a spark to her eyes. not yet, anyway. instead, her head swivels toward the excited carnival-goers as they ride around on the bumper cars. her hand is quick to retrieve a ticket stub from him after a moment.

"let's ride first - food can wait!"

she doesn't hesitate to grab his hand, then, and tug him toward the ride's entrance.

"Despite your best efforts, yeah?" he teased. "Yeah, I've been juggling some stuff for PENELOPE LIVY . Been in talks with Officer Gunner Graves for HBIC things as well. He's good people, if you don't know him." he said as he looks her towards a giant wheel that twirled and moved with people inside it. [break][break]

But before he can voice his preference, the scientist is already tugging him along. "Oooh BUMPER CARS? You're on!" he said grinning as he tears off his own ticket stuff for the staff to take. It's fairly quick entry. And he doesn't wait for her, dashing towards a neon green car and settling inside it. [break][break]

"You're going down, Reyes!" he said waiting for the stop lights to change colors. Red, Yellow, Green! He's off, slamming the gas and shoving other miniature bumper cars out of the way as he rushes Illie.

she hums recognition over the mention of Gunner Graves - his face popping up in her minds eye for a moment before fading. he has been helpful in her investigations of the rifts and, therefore, a welcome acquaintance in her book.

and while she could voice this, the prospect of bumper cars and besting paxton in a battle is too enticing to ignore. she grins, wide and unashamed.

"oh, you're definitely going down!"

he claims a green car while she claims a candy apple red one. the starting lights flicker through stages and before she can properly formulate a solid plan, they hit the signal of go and paxton is already rushing toward her. she laughs, yanking the wheel in an attempt to avoid him. it brings her careening into another person's car. they jolt, yelping with the hit. she shouts a quick sorry! before whipping the car back around and racing after paxton's green car. closer, closer to impact...

As he manages to ding bumper cars out of the way as he barrels towards Illie. A CARNIVAL PERFORMACE passing through near the bumper cars doesn't do much to distract him from his goal. But just before he can slam her back, some other person smacks him away from her. His cars skids away, smacking into the wall, only to be slammed into it a second time by another car, victim to a different one. [break][break]

By the time he manages to get near Illie again, the cars die down and their time is over. He gets out, wobbles a little to the exit before turning to his companion. "Fun right?" he said as they got out of the little arena. "Wanna try that weird Pendulum swiong? Or a game?"

[attr="class","illeana i"]round and round they go in circles - cars chasing after each other with bubbling laughter trailing slightly behind them. they do claim a few innocent victims, sure, but the overall entertainment of it all lingers long after they have left their bumper cars behind.

"definitely fun!"

she can't remember the last time she's enjoyed herself this much, actually. the thought, itself, is sobering.

"um, a game sounds good."

her head swivels, then, to find rows of carnival games not too far away. gently, she reaches for paxton's arm and tugs him toward the booths.

"pick your poison, concordas."
