Spending the morning cleaning out debris beneath the platforms in some joint beautification effort between the city and the Rangers. the afternoon harsh sunlight sends Nenet sheltering under a bit of shade on one of Pacifidlog's many floating wooden platforms.

She idly fans herself while sipping some water in an attempt to beat the heat; she's sick of being in the water at the moment, otherwise cooling off in the waves would hold some appeal.

Guessing at the remaining hours in her shift by eyeing the sun above, Nenet pulls herself from her thoughts at the nearby sight of someone else. She lifts her hand, offering a wave as she calls, "Good afternoon."

Steering casually towards the wooden platforms of Pacifidlog's most recent environmental project, Xiura floated on the back of her buoyant Poliwrath, Bufo. She was wearing a neon purple rash guard swimsuit top and lime-green swim shorts--all perhaps a little garishly bright like a field of LED crystablooms but very handy for underwater rescues. She had no doubt Bufo would be able to find her if she were to sink below the waves, or something. Perhaps being overprepared had its aesthetic disadvantages, but it certainly had practical worth.

Xiura waved at the woman on the wooden raft she was gradually approaching. "Hi! I'm Xiura! You're part of the beautification project, too?"

She patted Bufo on the back as a warning, gripping him with only one arm as she reached at her belt of Pokeballs. "Kingler!" she sang out, tapping one of the Pokeballs. "Wake up and help with the barnacles under those platforms, please!"

A giant, bleary-looking Kingler appeared in the water, floating towards the dock with lackadaisically snapping pincers.

"I am," Nenet answers, a smile spared for her new teammate. "I'm Nenet, it's a pleasure."

As a Kingler is brought out, Nenet releases her Starmie into the cool ocean waters and directs it with, "Go help Kingler, we've got some ground to cover." The starfish dives below the waves and darts off towards the platform supports where myriad barnacles cling.

"Not going to lie," Nenet laughs out to Xiura. "I think if I see the ocean again after this anytime in the next two months it will be too soon. I don't think this project is ever going to end."

With a shake of her head, she continues pleasantly while fanning herself, "Are you from here?"

Xiura laughed and chimed, "I'd be in a terrible state if I was sick of seeing the ocean. I'm actually living in Lilycove City right now." She paused, then added, "I'm really from Ecruteak City in Johto. That's where I grew up. How about you?"

Kingler continued to scrape barnacles and wet debris from the underside of the platforms and the supporting beams. As Starmie approached, Kingler reached out a friendly pincer to shake the star-shaped Pokemon's arm in greeting before resuming his work.

"I don't actually get to see the ocean much since I work. I have a bubble tea cafe in Lilycove," she explained further, climbing up onto the wooden platform with Bufo the Poliwrath and taking a wet seat on the floorboards by Nenet, her footprints leaving an arc of dampness like a slowpoke tail.

"Alola," Nenet answers. "On Ula'Ula - most people know the island for the Hokulani Observatory." She had, in fact, worked at Hokulani before moving to Hoenn in what felt like a lifetime ago.

"Bubble tea," she then repeats with obvious curiosity. "I don't think I've ever had that - what is it?" If it was sweet Nenet was more than prepared to make a trip to Lilycove. A brief glance is spared for the Poliwrath to ensure her feet are safe from being sat on before Xiura has her full attention once more.

As they speak, Nenet's Starmie extends an arm to Kingler before enthusiastically spinning in place; using the momentum, Starmie slams into a cluster of barnacles to dislodge them, sending their shells this way and that. The shock of the strike travels up the beam, causing the platform above to judder subtly.

Nenet peers down at the logs she stands on.

"Alola!" Xiura said. "I'd love to visit sometime. I've never been to an observatory. And I bet the beaches are beautiful." She took a moment to think, some distant memory tickling at the edge of her brain, and a flash of recognition crossed her features.

"We were in the swimsuit contest together!" she exclaimed. "If I remember correctly, you performed really well!" She beamed. "It feels like so long ago, but it was a lot of fun."

Kingler clacked its pincers, the spirit of competition blazing in its beady eyes. It form-tackled the Starmie, the two rolling around in the rhythmic waves, sweeping and crashing around the wooden beams.

"Bubble tea," Xiura contemplated aloud. "It's a sweet drink with a tea base. So while tea can be bitter, a lot of bubble tea drinks tend to be sweeter based on the person's preference. It's pretty trendy because of the variety of toppings you can add, like with frozen yogurt or ice cream. But it's a refreshing drink instead. Sort of like... an iced coffee. But with more variety. The flavor of tea can be subtle compared to coffee, so it makes a great base."

"If you ever happen to be in Lilycove, come stop by! Even if I'm not there during the day, my Clefairy is usually there to take orders."

"We do have gorgeous beaches," Nenet confirms with a smile.

She then blinks in surprise, her eyes narrowing thoughtfully before a dim recognition settles over her expression. "Oh, yes," she agrees with a laugh. "I do think I remember you."

"It does feel like an age has passed since last summer," she continues, agreeing as she pops her hat back on her head to shield herself from the sun.
[break][break]
As the conversation switches to bubble tea Nenet listens with curiosity. She cannot recall such a trend in Alola, but then again the Hokulani Observatory was remote and she was married to her work. "I'll have to stop by," she answers. Her sweet tooth certainly be satisfied, it sounded like. "It sounds delicious."

Meanwhile, her Starmie and Kingler wrestle and swipe, the benefit of knocking off barnacles is at least accomplished in their scuffle. A particularly rough slam sends the Starmie spinning out into the water, a flash of its gem signalling a truce.

“Please do stop by! My favorite is the strawberry milk tea, and it’s an easy first try for people new to bubble tea. That and the brown sugar milk tea.”

Kingler shook Starmie’s arm in another good-natured handshake. The remnants of cracked barnacles sank down into the water around them. Kingler set about scraping more debris from another pole, leaving ample room for Starmie to join in.

“I think they’re friends now,” Xiura observed, glancing at her Poliwrath Bufo who was sunning beside Nenet. Her Poliwrath hummed agreeably, no trace of envy in its tone, pulling a soggy sandwich out from somewhere and eating it.

"I absolutely will," Nenet assures Xiura.

Her attention shifts to the water where the two pokemon seem to finally finishing up the job. "I think they are," she agrees as she leans over the edge of the platform for a better view. Pieces of barnacle colour the water until everything stills, and it's not long before her Starmie floats up to the surface to greet its trainer.

"Are you ready to go home now?"

[break][break]

The Starmie twirls dramatically and then flops on its back while a look of amusement crosses Nenet's expression. "I think that's a yes," she confides to Xiura while retrieving her pokeball to recall the Starmie.

With that, she then says pleasantly, "It was a pleasure to meet you, Xiura. The next time I'm out in Lilycove I'm making sure to stop by." She extends her hand to say goodbye, pleased the day's work is finally over.
