The twists and turns of the Safari Zone's main trail were beyond Shalin's recognition; had they been changed since she last visited? Rather than a forest trail and a flatland leading to a marsh, both of the trails led to heavily forested areas. She gently kicked her Espeon's sides for speed, the psychic-type's strides getting longer and bouncier.

As several Treecko watched in awe of the giant Eeveelutions on parade through the Safari Zone, Shalin felt the sensation of a mental needle poking at her mind. The Shiny Espeon did not appear to like Shalin's attempt to physically control her. "Right, sorry Starr!" she apologized, being careful to mentally guide her around the bend that led deeper into the woods. She wondered what biome would show up next.

The next environment of interest was a mountain foothill, Shalin's stomach rising and falling as her Espeon bounded up and down the hills. How Hoenn managed to cultivate such a wide variety of landscapes into such a condensed area boggled her mind every time she came here. It was truly one of Hoenn's marvels - right up there with the locations of the Medallions of Eight and where she had located her Mega Stones.

A large horde of Torchic were nesting at the peaks of the tallest hills. She paid them no heed as she mentally commanded Starr to speed up, letting out a whoop as she felt the psychic-type's ESP-enhanced strides rock her body. She idly wondered how hard the green Eeveelution could buck, Starr sensing those thoughts and putting a little more power into her strides.

Shalin loved every bit of the light rodeo Starr was giving her. When she returned to her Romping Grounds, she wanted to see what the Espeon's mind could do when it went all out, even if it meant wrenching Shalin from her back. She liked what she was feeling so far, though; even with a focus more on advancing along the trail, those kicks and strides had power behind them.

As the foothills gave way to a wetland, Shalin's eyes shifted towards a quite-large Mudkip frolicking in the swamp. "Starr, can you ALLY SWITCH us with the Mudkip next to it? I wanna catch it." Obeying orders, the two disappeared into the astral, telekinetically swapping places. The flash of their appearance gave the water-type enough time to PROTECT itself against Starr's DAZZLING GLEAM.

Retaliating with a WATER PULSE that the psychic-type and rider could not dodge, the Mudkip would have cause the two to fall into the mire if the Espeon's feet weren't already deep enough in mud to provide surprising stability. Shalin would have fallen with it had it not been for the green Pokémon's psychic hold on her. The recoil did cause Shalin to drop her empty Poké Ball, though as luck would have it, right on top of the Mudkip. If she were to secure her catch, she would have her Espeon ALLY SWITCH with the Mudkip closest to the trail in order to carefully climb out.

Picking up her new catch, Shalin pondered a name as she rode Starr along the wetland trail. Just before the delta feeding the wetland, the Espeon nearly tripped, her back legs sinking deeper into the wet ground than she expected. Sensing the psychic-type was tired, she asked her to let her hop off and give her a rest. Once the Captain-in-training was on her own two feet again, she withdrew the Espeon for Dolana, her Umbreon, and climbed astride the fresh Eeveelution.

Her mount's glowing rings attracted the attention of a school of Feebas. While they were a rare find, she already owned a Milotic, and one she had built up quite the friendship with. With space starting to become an issue even at her vast Romping Grounds, she reined the dark-type away from the delta and gave Dolana a light squeeze to her sides. The Umbreon entered a gallop that was slower than Starr's, but still quite fast by species standards.

The wetland transitioned into a grassland, Dolana picking up the pace once she had completely left the soft ground behind. She gained traction as time went on, extending her claws and power-sliding around a hill and earning a whoop from her rider. The gate was in distant sight, and not a single sign of the advertised Eevee; where were they?

Her shout had startled a small horde of Pikachu, some of which gave chase and could outrun the Umbreon. As they were gaining on Shalin and her dark-type mount, she ordered the use of QUICK ATTACK to lose them in some tall brush that would mask the whereabouts of even the girl and her unusually large Eeveelution.

As the entrance arch came into sight, Shalin sighted what she had been searching for the entire time. There were more Eevee than she knew what to do with! There were so many that almost anyone in Hoenn who wanted one and could afford the trip to the Safari Zone could get one! Giving Dolana a light kick on her sides, Shalin silently commanded the Umbreon to pick up the pace.

One of the Eevee, a very large one at that, caught the scent of spicy Tamato Berries wafting from Shalin's bag. Shalin slid down from the Umbreon, the dark-type's CHARMing face captivating the Eevee. Not wanting to do battle with such a sweet Pokémon, she instead procured a Tamato Berry and a Safari Ball. "I've got more than this if you want to come live with me! I'll make sure you're just as strong as Dolana!" she offered, extending her hand for the wild to shake it with her paw. The great big Eevee let out a low squeal, devouring the spicy Berry in little time at all before touching the button on the Ranger's empty Safari Ball.
