“Ha! Champion now, huh? One thing at a time.” It’s accompanied by a laugh, a shake of his head. “Gotta make it out of all this first before any of that can happen.”[break][break]
It’s grimmer than he cares to usually be. But that’s how all of these conflicts end up feeling, when push comes to shove. A momentary pause button slapped on his actual life because there’s no resolution in sight between the two groups.[break][break]
When he says he’ll think about it, though, he does mean it. And it was very true that he didn’t see himself in the same capable light. He didn’t fault Greyson in his encouragements. It was nice to be believed in.[break][break]
It just felt rushed. But isn’t everything sort of rushed in Hoenn?[break][break]
In the silence that elapses, he pauses when his friend does. “Yeah.” And by yeah, he means the lack thereof.
Lam whistles for his own pair, and Artichoke pops around the other side of the shipping crates while the flamigo flutters down to follow. His eyes flit to his decidueye. “You watch the cargo.”[break][break]

Then he looks back to Greyson. "Do you remember which direction he disappeared in?"

[attr="class","snub-greyson"]Greyson hisses in irritation. A brief moment of concern is offered to the Decidueye, but it's quickly shaken off. Quantum could take care of himself, that he knew. His priorities needed to be elsewhere.

Lam's question doesn't fall on deaf ears, but neither does the Elite Four member reply to it. His attention is trained to a spot just ahead of him. At first nothing stirs, than slowly, like an advancing army, pink mist begins to filter through the treeline.

And with it, a host of Paradox Pokemon.

"Move!" He orders the man next to him, decorum and friendliness gone in the face of such a threat. His hand's already moving to an orb at his waist — Iron Valiant. She stands before him a bulwark, her blade buzzing with anticipation.

In the span of just a few, tense breathes, the ambush begins in earnest.

His eyes follow the fixation of the Elite Four’s, falling quiet as he too notices the Interdream Mist curling through the trees. What had been guessed as a Rocket initiative suddenly shifts to something else entirely.[break][break]
“Aw, geez,” he mutters—mostly to himself, at the sight of the paradox pokemon that flood out toward them. His flamigo makes the attempt to DETECT some sort of exact attack, but is too confused, too agitated to pinpoint the right opponent.[break][break]
In any case, Lam doesn’t need to be told twice, and he doesn’t think much of the shift in Greyson’s tone. For a moment he considers sending out his Slither Wing to combat the rest, but instead it’s his galarian zigzagoon that joins the fray.[break][break]
Tera orb in hand, the little creature is soon engulfed in violet light. A poison tera crown wobbles on the zigazgoon’s head, bushy fur shimmering with a dense layer of crystals. “Knock ‘em down, Jam Jam,” Lam directs, but he barely needs the cue—firing off a noxious GUNK SHOT at a nearby Scream Tail as it shrieks.

Leave it to Lam to create truly interesting names. Still, a fight was on their hands, and he wasn't eager to lose it. Despite the fatigue of the day, the prickly sensation brought forced by an

electric terrain

pulls him right back to reality.

Iron Valiant's

quark drive

spins up, and with a vibrating lance of energy, shoots off to meet the encroaching horde. Each swing brings an enemy down, and it's clear that given enough time, they would emerge victorious.

Just a matter of surviving until then.

“Yeah! He’s like, raspberry jam colored.” Lam shrugs, a brief grin pulling at his mouth in spite of the situation. “Just sounded right, I dunno.”[break][break]
It certainly matches the zigzagoon’s chaotic personality too, for whatever reason. He continues to dart around and through the trees in an uneven pattern. He adds more to the mix—backing up the Iron Valiant with more volleys of gunk shot, bolstered by the terastralization coating him.[break][break]
Lam’s flamigo, though, isn’t quite as lucky, fried by the thunder punch that greets him from a much larger Iron Hands. Hastily, the gym leader returns the bird to his pokeball.[break][break]
But it’s fine! They’ve still…totally got this.

An arrow darts from the treeline, pulling Greyson from his revelry. It slams into the metal armor of an Iron Treads and a pit opens beneath it, cold iron chains wrenching themselves up to root the beast to the floor. From the forest, Quantum emerges. His feathers were mattered and out-of-place, patches of blood and other gunk turning his coat a darker shade of brown.

But, he was alive. Like he knew he was.

He gives Lam a thumbs up.

"Looks like it's turning in our favor. Not bad for a days work."

Jam Jam was totally a fun and interesting name! What could he say? He was practically a nickname genius.[break][break]
As Jam Jam COUNTERS a hit that comes his way, Lam lifts a hand to his mouth and whistles high and sharp. The signal pulls Artichoke from his position guarding the cargo hold.[break][break]
The second decidueye swoops in to join the battered, but sturdy first. The aggressive climb of vines from a FRENZY PLANT following from the ground underneath to uproot the earth and topple other paradoxes along the way.[break][break]
Lam returns the gesture with a finger gun of his own. “Nah, not at all. Though,” he pauses, shrugging, “there’s probably a helluva lot more to come.” The fatigue was already there, but there’s nothing to do but keep pushing through it.
